Peter Loh has penned a new image (above), and I feel honored to be placed under his own special cryptocartoonist’s magnifying glass, once again. In “My Comic Life,” I overviewed various artists’ past graphic attempts to capture me, including the following by Loh: That Loren, the fedora-wearing Loren, was created by Loh for Scott Marlowe’s Crypto-Man comic series. New Kids’ Books on Cryptids
There is a new series of children’s books on cryptozoology for the New Year. Rosen Publishing has walked this way before. This New York City-based publisher produced a series of “Secret Files” children’s books on cryptids in 2002. It has now followed with their “Graphic Mysteries” 48-pages-long books for 2006 and 2007. The 2002 titles, which remain in print, are: Yeti: The Abominable Snowman by Laura Anne Gilman (2002); Bigfoot by Greg Cox (2002); and The Loch Ness Monster by Martin Delrio (2002). Harry Horse, The Ogopogo Author & Atlantis Rising Cartoonist Dies
The author of The Opopogo – My Journey with the Loch Ness Monster, Harry Horse, 46 (real name: Richard Horne), his dog Roo, other pets, and his ill wife Mandy, 39, have all died in an apparent mass suicide. The Scotsman is reporting on January 11, 2007, that Horne, his wife (multiple sclerosis saw her confined to a wheelchair at 39), and their pets were found Papil, on Burra, Scotland, on January 9, victims of an apparent assisted suicide and suicide pact. Cartoonist Ted Bastien Profiled
There is an excellent Bangor Daily News article, published on January 8, 2007, about Toronto-based cartoonist Ted Bastien and his comic strip, “Bugsport.” The strip is based loosely on Bucksport, Maine, and the town’s reportedly alien population. (Note to non-Mainers, when we say you are “from away” up here, we really mean it.) The article avoids mentioning Bugsport’s Bigfoot entirely, thus allowing it to remain an elusive cryptid.
