Bill Rebsamen’s illustration completed for me in 2001, for use on the cover of my Mothman book. Does it matter what color the eyes of a more stylized imaging of Mothman appears in graphic art? Two color drawings of “Coleman’s Cryptozoo” arrived overnight from Len Peralta. What version of Mothman‘s eyes do you like? For a look at the black and white initial example of Len Peralta’ art again, go to ” Cryptozoo by Mail”. Should illustrative, graphic, and comic art stay close to the original descriptions of cryptids, or can it be appreciated as a form and extension of [...]
Cryptozoo by Mail
Ever wanted your own personalized cryptid? Well, for twenty bucks you can have your idea envisioned by an artist who quickly draws your desire, via Monster by Mail. (See more ordering info at the bottom of this posting.) Thanks to Rogier van Bakel, I heard about this artist, Len Peralta who is in the midst of drawing a very limited number (150) of “Cryptozoo” cryptids. Getting in contact with Len, I challenged the artist to do an original hand-drawn sample of his specially imagined “Coleman’s Cryptozoo” with a Yeti, Nessie, Bigfoot, Mothman, and Dover Demon, and email me the result. [...]
Borillas
Last year, I reported here of the Bigfoot-type reports called “Cohomo.” Does a child’s old 1960s’ notebooks have clues that relate to those sightings of the 1970s? Or was there just a cultural sense in the air that imaginations and reality merged in the Midwest of a few decades ago? Michael Isenberg, a musician living in Hollywood, California, has made claims in emails to Cryptomundo that he created, in 1965, a story that may have influenced the reports of “Cohomo,” also called the “Cole Hollow Monster,” reported in 1972, in Pekin, Illinois. Here’s what Isenberg writes: It began in the [...]
Kappas
And you thought those Mutant Ninja Turtles came out of the blue? Or only some fictional sewers? Special Features of Kappa * Favorite things to eat — cucumber, fish * Least favorite things — ironware, deer antlers, saliva Key to the above drawing: 1) Shell 2) Webbed hands and feet 3) Elastic arms 4) Plate (When there is water in this plate, the Kappa has amazing strength.) 5) A tapering mouth Kappas have been reported in Japan for centuries, being an important part of the folklore and, apparently, the real world, for the locals who see them in and near [...]
Bastien Beasties
Cartoonist Ted Bastien contributes a graphic view of tonight’s program. The cryptic comic crew is gathering for the show celebrating the new release of Mysterious America: The Ultimate Guide to the Nation’s Weirdest Wonders, Strangest Spots, and Creepiest Creatures (NY: Paraview Pocket – Simon and Schuster, 2007)!
Kalanoro, Yeti and Lux
Images of hairy hominoids are popping up in all sorts of places. Harry Trumbore’s drawing (above) of Africa’s kalanoro, from The Field Guide to Bigfoot and Other Mystery Primates by Loren Coleman and Patrick Huyghe, inspired Peter Loh’s Kalanoro (below) in the Crypto-Man Comix, written by Scott Marlowe. Wildlife artist Richard Klyver, who spent seven years in Africa, has produced a new series of high-quality tee-shirts. His first one is an excellently accurate drawing of what the Abominable Snowman or Yeti probably looks like, as shown above. If you want to buy one or more of these limited edition tee-shirts [...]
Bigfoot Academic
Is this cell phone picture proof that celebrated ape-man scholar Bigfoot has tampered with the archaeological record? Find or Fake? Scandal has enveloped Bigfoot’s most spectacular finds, including this unique pot, found by Bigfoot during his massive pedestrian survey of New Mexico’s Chaco Canyon. Bigfoot Shocker!! April Fool’s Day 2007 Giant ape-man academic exposed!! American archaeologists were stunned as news broke today that a high-school student with a cameraphone caught Bigfoot in the act of planting artifacts at Burns Mound. An important Mississippian period (A.D. 900-1100) site outside of Memphis, Tennessee, Burns Mound’s discovery during a joint Bigfoot-University of North [...]
Sunday Comics: Crypto-Man Meets Mystery Man
It is a strange world when I see things like “My Comic Life” end up on Wikipedia and Boing Boing, frozen in cyberspace. Therefore, here is my update with hints of the upcoming adventures of Crypto-Man and a character based on me. Since it is Sunday in Singapore, the time is right for another irregular edition of my Crypto Sunday Comics, the early overnight edition. Back in November, writer/director Scott Marlowe announced that “Coleman Joins Cast” of the Peter Loh-drawn series “Crypto-Man” is loosely based on Marlowe. I am coming on board as “Mystery Man.” We thought that this casting [...]
Badboy Beckjord Hangs Up
Well, early reports are that last night’s Squatchdetective Radio show was apparently a classic, alright. An absolute classic mess. Here’s a couple quick reactions posted today, followed up with emails, and reproduced here with the permission of the comment makers. It started an hour late. All I can say is, what a shame. Keep an eye on the Cryptomundo web site. I’m sure the results of the ten rounder will be posted there. There were no winners in this one. William Dranginis, Viriginia Bigfoot researcher I know all the gentlemen involved including Erik Beckjord. Steve Kulls was the host, Sean [...]
