Skinwalkers

One of Linda Godfrey’s illustrations of you-know-what. The movie Skinwalkers opens today, so it might be time to learn more about Skinwalkers: What Are They?, from The Daily Grail. “The Best Fortean Cryptozoology Book of 2005″ picked here at Cryptomundo was Hunt for the Skinwalker: Science Confronts the Unexplained at a Remote Ranch in Utah by Colm A. Kelleher and George Knapp. Kelleher and Knapp are the authors of the Skinwalkers item at TDG. I first wrote about Skinwalkers in 1975, in Creatures of the Other Edge, on pages 109-111. “They go very fast,” the Diné man told anthropologist William [...]

The Coming Army of Yeti

The time is never too early to plan ahead for a movie that might interest us. On August 1, 2008, a year from today, Mummy 3 opens. The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor is to be directed by Rob Cohen (also directed Stealth, XXX, The Skulls, and Dragonheart). The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor has a plot set in ancient China and follows the background of the film’s villain, China’s first emperor Qin Shi Huang (played by Jet Li). The film will move forward to a post-World War II setting where regulars characters Rick and Alex head to [...]

Coming this November, Beowulf is re-invented for the screen beyond the epic remembrances many of us share of this legend. I really doubt the filmmakers have followed my line of thinking that Grendel was a surviving true giant, near Neandertal, or perhaps even a relict form of Homo heildelbergensis. Nevertheless, the film is made in a fashion that makes it appear similar to 300 [...]

The Day of the Triffids’ Kieron Moore Dies

In 1969, on July 20th, a man walked on the moon. Five days ago, one of the first men to walk with a Triffid died. Irish actor Kieron Moore, 82, died Sunday, July 15, 2007. He is one of the lead characters, Tom Goodwin in the motion picture, The Day of the Triffids. Playing an alcoholic biologist, Goodwin finds his core and ends up fighting the Triffids with vigor, while his character’s wife (played by Janette Scott) is credited with screaming a lot. The humans are stereotyped; the Triffids are not. For more on the acting career of Kieron Moore, [...]
