As I freely admitted before here, I haven’t had much time to see and take in “Destination Truth.” I mostly have been withholding judgement until I could see it, as the reviewers writing into Cryptomundo have been mixed in their reactions. Some people like it, some loathe it. A few people are distracted by the level of evidence presented by the program, but I think that’s another type of critique altogether. So here is what I discovered: Bottomline, this show is very good for cryptozoology. The show has as its tent pole person, Joshua Gates. He is a strong personality, [...]
Where Are The Orang Dalam?
August is one of the most active months, from past experiences, for sightings and encounters with Malaysia’s Orang Dalam. By September, we usually have heard of what encounters have taken place over the summer. But where are the reports this year? Have you heard of any? Here’s a gallery of flashbacks from the past, from those high seasons of sightings, progressing down through the years, including those from merely a year ago last spring and summer 2006. Ah, what a difference a year makes. Close up of the track of the Orang Dalam on a Malaysian sandbar found during Harold [...]
What’s On Your Lesser-Known Cryptids List?
What are the lesser-known cryptids that you know about, that you are pursuing, and/or that you feel should get more attention? Nowadays, it is easy to come up with a list of popular well-known cryptids. Click on this one of the top 50 here, to see what I mean. But we all know there are vast numbers of cryptids out there that remain hidden, and even hidden from media attention. One task I tackled as the 1990s ended was to bring cryptozoology to a broader audience, introduce the diversity of the searchers, and highlight more than the big three cryptids [...]
Homo pongoides Emerges From Lausanne
The following images are more photographs being shared from the inside of “The Department of Cryptozoology B. Heuvelmans, Museum of Zoology, Lausanne, Switzerland.” This location is the sanctuary for Bernard Heuvelmans’ collection of books, paintings, and raw materials, detailing his years of cryptozoology research and gathering of cryptid data. Today, you can more clearly seen how he organized his data on unknown hairy hominiods and other cryptids. Once again, these photographs were taken and shared with me by Christoph Kummer, who was allowed to begin to examine the Heuvelmans files and then take these photographs, at my request. I then [...]
Searching for Bigfoot and Other Cryptids
Many people vacationing in Maine may enjoy the Yarmouth Clam Festival (mascot is pictured above) this coming weekend. Others will be having fun elsewhere in Vacationland. After all, read this forecast for the next few days for coastal Maine: Saturday: Mostly sunny. Highs in the mid 70s. West winds around 10 mph. Sunday: Partly sunny. Highs in the mid 70s. Sunday Night And Monday: Partly cloudy. Lows in the upper 50s. Highs in the upper 70s. Tuesday: Partly sunny. Highs in the upper 70s. Flashback: Johor Hominid – July 4th, 2006 + A New Sighting
Do you remember what we all were talking about on this date a year ago, on July 4th, 2006? Teasers about groundbreaking photographs of a “Johor Hominid” were being promoted with comments about having patience. One website researcher commented to me on this day in 2006 that asking to see the Johor Bigfoot photographs is “like asking for Angelina Jolie’s unpublished baby photos,” and that I now have to “be patient like the rest.” Yes, I said: Patience is a virtue. Patience and passion are two important components of cryptozoology research, as I have often mentioned, as per Bernard Heuvelmans. [...]
Destination Truth: Johor Bigfoot
Bigfooter Allen Foster takes a peek at the latest episode about reports of hairy hominoids in Malaysia on Destination Truth: The “team” went to Malaysia to find Bigfoot. The leader, Josh Gates, interviewed the Malaysia’s leading Bigfoot researcher, Vincent Chow. Then they went to a local town near the last reported sighting and interviewed witnesses. Off into the jungle they went to where the latest sighting was. The team found a possible footprint and made a cast of it. The footprint was irregular in shape but did look like a possible print. They had one of their night vision cameras [...]
Destination Truth: An Unreview
Why have there been no reviews of the June 6th broadcast of “Destination Truth,” which was hosted by Josh Gates? Where are the reviews? Did you see it? For me, it happened right in the middle of a week of activities that centered on my son’s awards assemblies and graduation, so I missed it. Did anyone watch it? The limited, six-episodes of the sixty-minute long series are being carried on the Sci-Fi Channel. It is executive produced by Neil and Michael Mandt for their Mandt Brothers Productions, whose credits include ESPN’s very popular “Jim Rome Is Burning” show. If you [...]

New Encounters with Mande Burung (Wild Jungle People)
If you look in my book, The Field Guide to Bigfoot and Other Mystery Primates (NY: Anomalist Books, 2006), you will find range maps for some of the types of hairy hominoids that the data gathers. Some have tried to revise these maps, for example, for the “Erectus Hominids,” by expanding the range into the vast outback desert of Australia or cutting back the range from more certain Asia. It does not really matter because new reports and discovered old cases will keep changing what people feel are the ranges of any of these hominoid cryptids. The reports will speak [...]
