Early Indian news reports seem to be linking the finding of "giant" footprints in India with the "Malaysian Bigfoot" media madness, and the the temporary closing of China’s Shennongjia Nature Reserve (or "Bigfoot Park" in some stories), the alleged habitat of the Chinese Wildmen or Yeren. But are the Indian reports clearly of an archaeological nature, and not about hominology? Inquiring cryptozoologists desire more exacting details! January 10th’s Silicon India report and yesterday’s Times of India news item are broadcasting the message that the giant footprints found in India are in some way related to a giant "Bigfoot" candidate. But [...]
First Image of Malaysian Bigfoot ?
A new drawing of the Malaysian “Bigfoot” has been released in Friday, January 6th’s New Straits Times with their article “Closing in on Bigfoot, foreign media set to descend on Johor.” The sketch appears to illustrate the more distinctive Malaysian unknown hairy hominid, which technically is a more humanlike cryptid, and very different that the classic, stocky Pacific Northwest USA’s Bigfoot or Sasquatch. I have previously discussed in my and Patrick Huyghe’s field guide, as has Mark A. Hall in his books, how the Malaysian unknown hairy hominoid reports divide into two quite separate types: those of the True Giant [...]
Media Madness: Malaysian Bigfoot Flap
I’ve already commented on the historical nature of the Malaysian reports of what is unfortunately being called a "Bigfoot." (Hey, what’s wrong with using the local name for this cryptid? Maybe Orang Dalam, perhaps?) So, today, I just wanted to mention a brief informal statistical media analysis that is being noted by the media itself. The essence of what is occurring is that the news organizations are realizing this story is sweeping the media. Yesterday and today, for example, Reuters spread their story that basically said: "Bigfoot fever is gripping Malaysia, with local newspapers and the official news agency reporting [...]
What does 2006 hold for Cryptozoology?
What are your cryptozoological predictions for 2006? Where will new expeditions search? What cryptids will dominate the news this year? What cryptozoological wonder will be filmed? Will someone use a cellphone camera to "capture" an image of a cryptid this year? Who will win the $5000 top prize for a cryptid-related photo in February, and what will it show? Can the opening of Disney World’s new ride and mini-exhibition on the Yeti renew interest in the pursuit of the Abominable Snowmen of the Himalayas? Does the Malaysian hominoid flap have any staying power? What lakes have expeditions planned to search [...]
