While we’ve seen other models of Yeti, it appears Skoda has settled on one for the United Kingdom. Can America be far behind? Will Yetis haunt the streets of the USA soon? Will any of us be able to afford gasoline by the time they appear? Well, if smaller is better, then the littlest Yeti may be the answer. Shall we begin to call it “Teh-lma,” after the Sherpa word for “small Yeti”? Skoda’s junior 4×4, the Yeti, is going to make production, Autocar has learned. The Czech car-maker will develop the new small 4×4, due on sale in mid-2009, [...]
The Mummy’s Yeti
From the new (third) Mummy movie, a first glimpse of their version of the Yeti. It’s white, needless to say. Thanks for the screen capture to Jason Pritchett.

Mande Burung Breast Feeds Captive
Please click on the above cartoon for a larger image. Remember June 2007 when artist Peter Loh, making contact from Singapore, sent in the above illustration to go with the breaking news (here, here, here) coming hot out of the rainforests of South Asia of a strange new creature, the Mande Burung (= Wild Jungle People)? The hominoid is back in the news. “Meghalaya” literally means “The Abode of Clouds” and is the name of a small state in northeast India. Chad Arment makes reference to a news item about the Achik Tourism Society (ATS) studying the Mande Burung of [...]
Yetis, Mummy 3, and Chinese
李連杰 (Jet Li) plays Qin Emperor. Photo by Jasin Boland. The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (a/k/a Mummy 3) is an upcoming American motion picture directed by Rob Cohen that follows in the wake of The Mummy and The Mummy Returns. M3 is slated for release on August 1, 2008. As I have noted here before, one scene will be of a battle with the “Army of the Yeti.” An extremely brief hint of the Yeti can be seen here. Additionally, a variety of other teaser featurettes are beginning to be placed online, some in Chinese:
Cryptozoo Book With A Warning
Extreme Expedition: Travel Adventures Stalking the World’s Mystery Animals by Adam Davies (Anomalist Books) has been published. It contains a rare “warning label” not often seen on cryptozoological works. Davies, who is departing on a new Yeren expedition on April 28, 2008, is sharing with the world his most recent adventures. Does a dinosaur exist in the Congo? Does a Yeti-like creature live in the jungles of Sumatra? Does a fearsome Death Worm inhabit the deserts of Mongolia? Explorer Adam Davies has traveled some of the most dangerous places in the world in search of these and other supposedly mythical [...]
Anna McClain Memorial Fund
Anna McClain (future Coleman), at 17 years of age, a few years before she gave birth to Loren Coleman. First it was a slight cold on Tuesday, April 8th, followed by her quick death on Wednesday, April 9th. I’m in a bit of a shock. My mother always helped and encouraged my cryptozoology, including the museum. Donations will be greatly appreciated to support the continued work and housing of the cryptozoology exhibitions, and can be sent to Anna McClain Memorial c/o Loren Coleman PO Box 360 Portland, ME 04112 or via PayPal to lcoleman@maine.rr.com Or if you want to have [...]
Greater Boston Bigfoot Research Institute: Update
On Saturday, April 12, after nicely being put up for the night before by Helen Jacobson, president of the 826 Boston board, I was a guest of honor during the formal launching of the Greater Boston Bigfoot Research Institute (GBBRI), the unique literacy center, which just opened in Massachusetts. Above: The incredibly, simple but complex, to-the-point but creative, and intriguing but academically-appropriate GBBRI logo was designed by Amanda McCorkle of ColorQuarry.com. (BTW, it was a good decision for me to attend, despite my recent loss, as it connected me to the roots of good parenting, tutorship, and the future of [...]
Anna and Yeti
I went to Ohio on Wednesday, April 9th, 2008, to give a special talk to a private, thoughtful, intellectual group of 150 people at the research organization called Emerson Climate Technologies. They wanted someone to stimulate their thoughts, to give examples of a different creative process, and, yes, to entertain them, scientifically and humanely. I did that by giving an illustrated lecture, full of humor and humanness, entitled “Cryptozoology: Passion and Patience.” I covered a lot of ground, from the beginnings of the study of hidden animals, through mentions of Ivan T. Sanderson, Bernard Heuvelmans, Ruth Harkness, Scott Norman, and [...]
Yeren Steals Beer
Cryptomundo correspondent Adam Campbell sends along this sighting of a Yeren: I saw a Yeren between Guilin and Kunming in China, in October 1995. I was on a train travelling at night at about 20 mph when the Yeren put it’s hand through the window and grabbed a bottle of beer off the table next to the window. We heard the bottle smash about 10 seconds later. Four of us saw it of which one [of the eyewitnesses] was Chinese; he kept shouting “Yeren! Yeren!” The Yeren had very long thin fingers covered in gingery auburn hair. We assume that [...]
