Glad to see so many readers of Cryptomundo at Saturday, July 5th’s talk at Fort Knox. The late arrival crowds were so big that cars were backed up for a couple miles to get into the place. For Sunday, July 6th, when it is predicted people tend to get there earlier and on time, I’ve been asked to stay over to present at noon. Thus, I will give another hour long talk, with a Q&A session, outdoors with lots of replicas, artifacts, props and exhibits from the Interational Cryptozoology Museum. [No more news on the Island Falls black panther report, [...]
Volkswagen-Sized Catfish
Famed natural history artist Alexis Rockman painted the cover of the 2001 edition of Mysterious America depicting a real encounter he and his cryptozoology expedition associates had with a giant catfish in the Amazon. The new edition of Mysterious America contains a chapter on “Giant Catfish” sightings, which continue throughout North America and elsewhere in the world. These tales overlap with swamp monster encounters, lake monster ponderings, and weird animal happenings. Giant catfish do exist, which is a fact not in dispute. The question is how “giant” does “giant” get and where are they living today. In an article today [...]
Cryptid Giant Snake Shot & Sank
Chad Arment, author of Boss Snakes: Stories and Sightings of Giant Snakes in North America, passes along this intriguing new case. The python [sic - no actual scientific identification occurred] snake that was spotted on Lake Sinclair [Georgia, USA] earlier this spring [2008] was killed by a Putnam County Sheriff’s Department deputy last Thursday [apparently June 12th, 2008; as June 19th, probably would have been referred to as "yesterday"]. The deputy shot the snake three times with a shotgun and the creature then sank to the bottom of the lake. No pictures were taken. Repair crews were in the Twin [...]
Ohio's Grassmen
Thank goodness the ghosts are gone. It’s back to monsters this evening folks, so let’s celebrate. Tonight’s “MonsterQuest” is about the “Ohio Grassman,” one of the local names for the Eastern Bigfoot-types reported in this Midwestern state, a bona-fide cryptid. It also features good guy, well-known Ohio Bigfoot conference organizer and Cleveland Indians fan Don Keating. Don Keating describes a plaster casting he has in his collection from early 1991 for the History Channel’s program “MonsterQuest.” The casting is from a series of five footprints discovered near Newcomerstown. Myakka, Masks, and John Chambers

It all began with a December 22, 2000, letter signed “God Bless. I prefer to remain anonymous,” mailed to the Sarasota (Florida) Sheriff’s Department.
Tsuchinoko: 100 Million Yen Reward
Times have been rather hectic lately with the recent news of the Bigfoot “massacre” theory, the Bigfoot trail camera photo prize, and the Pepie challenge money. Therefore, I did want to acknowledge an item published over at the Pink Tentacle a few days ago. The essay was entitled “Seven Mysterious Creatures of Japan”. It is worth your reading, especially if you are not familiar with the Hibagon (unknown anthropoid), Kusshii (lake monster), Isshii (lake monster), Giant Snake of Mt. Tsurugi, Takitaro (giant fish), Kappa (merbeing, shown above), and Tsuchinoko. Specifically, I wished to point to the Tsuchinoko paragraphs, as a [...]

A drawing of the Beast of Bladenboro by Gary Longordo ~ Click on the image to enlarge it. “MonsterQuest” on Wednesday, June 4, 2008, dealt with the cryptid most often known as the “Beast of Bladenboro,” in its “Vampire Beast” episode. It updated the story with the reports from the fall of 2007, when residents of Bolivia, North Carolina, started losing pets and farm animals to an unknown creature. Upcoming repeats of the program will occur on History (nee, the History Channel), to wit: “Vampire Beast” – Sunday June 15 05:00 PM Eastern “Vampire Beast” – Wednesday June 18 08:00 [...]
Giant Black Snake Sighted
Chad Arment, author of Boss Snakes: Stories and Sightings of Giant Snakes in North America, passes along this new case. The story is from the Tampa Bay’s 10 News in St. Petersburg, Florida, for today. Huge snake spotted [by] Tammie Fields Hudson – The snake was spotted along Bear Creek River behind a home on Mill Creek Lane about two months ago. It’s an area with manicured landscaped lots with towering mature trees surrounding it and lots of wildlife like turtles and birds. Resident, Amy Wiegman, spent part Friday afternoon watering plants in her backyard and says “It’s an absolutely [...]
Monster Quest II
It is Tuesday, May 27, 2008, and the History Channel, on behalf of “Monster Quest II,” is here in Portland, Maine, with a film producer and crew today to digitally film interviews with me about cryptozoology, in the context of a five hour tour of the International Cryptozoology Museum. Their snippets of the interviews, b-roll, and various background commentary on artifacts at the ICM will be used as web-linked support for Season Two of “Monster Quest,” which premieres tomorrow, Wednesday, May 28, 2008. Here are two trailers about the new season. Enjoy: MonsterQuest : Mutant Canines Airs on Wednesday May [...]
Not Lizard Man
DNA testing has shown an attack on a family van some blamed on the legendary Lizard Man appears to have been actually done by a domestic dog. Something chewed up the front fender of Bob and Dixie Rawson’s van in February 2008. Bite marks were left on the wheel wells and blood was found on the vehicle. The Item of Sumter reported that a veterinary lab in California tested the blood and found it came from a dog. But Bob Rawson isn’t sure, saying it would have to be one big dog. Lee County Sheriff E.J. Melvin isn’t convinced either. [...]
