One of the “Animal X” staff members died in 2006, but I am lacking a specific date on which the death occurred. The program’s Tony White, 54, died an untimely death, from a massive heart attack in Australia. He was the show’s senior researcher and died during the production of “Animal X: Natural Mystery Unit.” White had also been involved in the endangered species series “Before It’s Too Late” and the general animal series, “Animal Allies.” He furthermore had a weekly radio show in the UK and some years ago he wrote a four-part documentary series for BBC Radio on [...]
Footprints
This year is starting off with a bang regarding the Skunk Ape. First, I wondered aloud if it was time to ponder the Myakka case anew (please note, not "Port Myakka" as given below), and now this (first published overnight with a different headline, since updated here, as it appears in today’s paper): January 02, 2007 Miami Herald "Kids armed with cameras chase after the Skunk Ape" by Curtis Morgan The scene: the Everglades, mysterious in the darkness. Four college kids, armed only with a night-vision camera, trudge through palmetto thicket, guided by a snake-booted man who claims to have [...]
First Cryptid Sighting in 2007?
Every year I watch to see what is the first cryptid sighting that is mentioned in the media and what is the actual first cryptid encounter. Take for instance 2000. On January 2nd, news services reported that in the rural Malaysian village of Kampung Chennah, durian farmer Liong Chong Shen, 50, smelling a strong odor and hearing a grunt, turned to see two mystery ape-like animals covered in long, shiny, black and brown hair. The mawas (as they are locally called) stared at the startled farmer, and walked back into the nearby rainforest. As fate would have it, this 2000 [...]
Maine Mutant #6 in 2006
An automobile travels the sparsely used Route 4 through the Turner, Maine, area, little knowing what it will meet around the next corner. It wasn’t a Stephen King novel, but a real-life incident that captured the media, first in Maine, then more globally last summer, into early fall. Lewiston, Maine’s Sun Journal published their 2006 year-in-review on the first day of the new year. Route 4′s “Mystery Animal” (a/k/a “Maine Mutant”) was on their list. Monday, January 1, 2007 Top stories of 2006 Tragedies dominated the tri-county news in 2006, with young people dying in car accidents, plane crashes, the [...]

More African Dino Art Deco
Friday, the one-two punch of Boing Boing and The Anomalist featuring my blog on “African Dinosaur Hunting: Art Deco Style,” got the story/link repeated and viewed far and wide. Some of the locations were very diverse: Professor Hex, Lesley at The Debris Field , Africa Art History, Spooky Paradigm, Planet Kwekje, Weird History, Zapptor, Kung Fu Action Theatre, Frederick County Report, and many others. Yes, I did listen to you regarding a desire to read the newsprint. It is difficult to do, from the jpegs of Art Deco African dinosaur hunting articles shared earlier, so here below you will find [...]
African Dinosaur Hunting: Art Deco Style
Fresno Bee, February 19, 1928 People have been seeing what they think are sauropods (or in the popular mind, dinosaurs) for a long time in Africa. More recent eyewitness accounts, of course, are still being recorded. Take cryptozoologist Adam Davies, who authored a Fortean Times article (April 2001) on his expedition. He says it all in his title, “I thought I saw a Sauropod, ” and his report is easily found online, here. Zanesville Signal, November 29, 1925 Some future summaries are in store for next year. Chad Arment mentioned in a recent blog that 2007 could be a good [...]
