The following video, notice of which was sent along by a Cryptomundo reader, nicely celebrates many images from this remarkable summer.
Cuero Chupacabras Caught on Dashcam
New footage of a running “Chupacabras” – i.e., in this case, a mystery canid – has been caught on a dashboard camera by the DeWitt County, Texas, sheriff’s department. This occurred near Cuero, Texas, the new “capital” of Chupacabras activity since the “mystery canid” body was found there. Contributed Photo: Phylis Canion The DNA results for Phylis Canion’s find have not been accepted kindly by the local residents. Here is a silent YouTube version from the local television station KENS 5. The link to the tape, with audio, playing on CNN.com today is here. There is also a new documentary [...]
Amomongo Hominoid Terrorizes Philippines
The amomongo (loosely, gorilla) is a creature of Philippine cryptozoology described as hairy, man-sized and ape-like with long nails. Terror is gripping residents of haciendas in Brgy. Sag-ang, La Castellana, Negros Occidental, Philippines, following the reported existence of a man-sized creature, who recently attacked two residents and disemboweled animals in the area. Elias Galvez and Salvador Aguilar reported to Mayor Alberto Nicor and the police that they were separately attacked by a “hairy creature with long nails,” on the nights of June 9 and 10, 2008, in Cabungbungan, Brgy. Sag-ang, La Castellana, Philippines. Aguilar who was able to escape from [...]

Chasing Discovery
Chasing Discovery has its world premiere at St. Michael’s College today. I thought Cryptomundians would be interested in this new film: There’s something out there… And the men and women of cryptozoology are determined to find it. The researchers in this relatively obscure science face ridicule, financial struggles and harsh skepticism in their quest to uncover the secrets of mystery animals such as Bigfoot, Nessie and Chupacabras. This is their story… Chasing Discovery seeks to understand the researchers who delve into the zoological unknown. The cryptozoologists featured have devoted decades to researching undiscovered animals, and are among the foremost researchers [...]
Chilean Winged Wonder
Mr. Oscar Solar Valdebenito, married, a sergeant with the Carabineros, was performing his duties as a security guard in the Preventive Custody Center of the city of Angol on Friday, April 28, 2000. The facility was under construction at the time. Mr. Solar was alone and was making his rounds of the construction site’s interior. Once he returned to the guard shack on the southern side, using a passageway located in the back, he noticed the presence of an “animal” standing 1.20 meters tall, average complexion, with a small head in proportion to the rest of its body. The creature [...]
Breaking: Campeche Chupacabras
Chupacabras reappears in Champotón, Campeche, Mexico; it kills 9 birds. Chupacabras reappeared in the municipality of Champotón, where it left dead eight hens and a turkey and without blood, but also a live rooster, in the house of Aurelio Tamay. The birds were inside the hen house, where the entity or unknown arrived and sucked the blood from them and later escapes without leaving sign. Tamay narrated that the dawn of the past Sunday [March 30, 2008] he listened to a great uproar and something like roars in the patio of his house. He went to investigate and in the [...]
60 Minutes’ Morley Safer, AMNH, and Cryptozoology
On Friday, November 30, 2007, I took the train to New York City from Portland, Maine. It is a long ride, but I decided to try it out, catch up on some reading, and see what came my way. I was surprised by the person I ran into on the train: CBS 60 Minutes correspondent Morley Safer. He was the only guy sitting a few seats in front of me on a sparingly occupied train car. I think he got on someplace in Massachusetts. I’m not sure, and I respect his privacy enough to not really care to talk about [...]
MonsterQuest: Mutant Canines
In the summer of 2006, during the investigation of the “dead animal on the Turner road,” which was blamed for the killings and injuries to dogs and livestock in central Maine for the last decade, an interesting piece of evidence turned up missing. It was the mystery creature’s skull (above). Having the skull would have clearly told us the animal was a dog, without going through all the DNA testing. Now the skull has surfaced again for television. The carcass that Mark LaFlamme and I examined (below) only a few days after its discovery was headless. But we knew the [...]
The Top Ten Cryptozoology Stories for 2007
The Top Ten Cryptozoology Stories for 2007 by Loren Coleman, Cryptozoologist and Author, Mysterious America, Cryptozoology A to Z, and other books. From Bigfoot to Yeren, and from dwarf killer whales to dwarf manatees, it was quite a year. Welcome to this year’s top stories in cryptozoology. It wasn’t heaven during 2007 for the cryptids, but instead seemed to have been a year of reflection, mistakes, fakes, and a few new finds. In the 1940s, the Scottish-born American zoologist Ivan T. Sanderson (photo with lemur) began using a word he coined, “cryptozoology,” to describe a new discipline of science that [...]
