New footage of a running “Chupacabras” – i.e., in this case, a mystery canid – has been caught on a dashboard camera by the DeWitt County, Texas, sheriff’s department. This occurred near Cuero, Texas, the new “capital” of Chupacabras activity since the “mystery canid” body was found there. Contributed Photo: Phylis Canion The DNA results for Phylis Canion’s find have not been accepted kindly by the local residents. Here is a silent YouTube version from the local television station KENS 5. The link to the tape, with audio, playing on CNN.com today is here. There is also a new documentary [...]
Qaqrat Monster Washes Ashore in Alaska
Qaqrat is a word in the Inuit dialect of Cup’ig, Nunivak Island’s native language. It is phonetically pronounced “koo-gat” and translates as “beast-walrus.” One could say that the carcass of a qaqrat has graced itself upon Alaska. Will the fabled “beast-walrus” be the next media darling? After all the news attention to the recent carcass, the Montauk Monster, that washed ashore at a beach in New York, you might expect to hear about more such incidents this summer. A little paper in Seward, Alaska, seems to be the first one to tell of an actual similar unknown. Unfortunately, they have [...]

Ta Kou lizard (Cyrtodactylus takouensis). Two species of lizard and one species of pit viper [in the Vietnamese release = rattle-snake] were recently discovered on mountains in the provinces of Binh Thuan, Dong Nai and Kien Giang, Vietnam. Elfin Photo Released
Tahoe Elf? Nevada Faery? Lake Tahoe Leprechaun? Deneau’s Hobgoblin? There is a world of good names out there, and this one cannot go down as a “leprechaun-alien” for long, please. Lloyd Deneau, 41, of Florida was on vacation at Lake Tahoe, located along the border between California and Nevada, west of Carson City, Nevada. He decided to photograph some interesting trees in a forest there. (When? Exactly where? The reports don’t say.) The he thought he’d seen a tiny creature darting from the forest. Deneau took out his camera and proceeded to take a picture of it. What he saw [...]
Montauk Monster Überschwemmte Cryptomundo
Click image for larger version. There can be little doubt that the Montauk Monster is a media phenomenon this summer, and is even outstripping Obama, Morgan Freeman and Heath Ledger in gaining widespread short term attention. It überschwemmte (swamped, deluged) Cryptomundo and about every other site too. While people like Gawker threw around casually the words “demon beast” or “monster,” as the first report surfaced, when I posted early on Tuesday, July 29th, and labeled this thing the “Montauk Monster,” magic happened. It reminds me of how, on a whim, I called the Massachusetts creature seen in April 1977, the [...]
New Mystery Cat Photos Questioned
Is there another unknown felid being seen on the University of Maryland campus? Should we question the quick identification being given to this cat? C & C Savannahs shows off one of its prize examples of the breed. Carol Streit/Callie Ingram Photo. According to the Sunday Washington Post article entitled, “Authorities Take Photos Of Elusive Large Cat” by Martin Weil and Clarence Williams, the phantom feline has been identified. But I wonder if the identification is wrong? Authorities at the College Park campus were able to obtain photographs of an unidentified feline that, while not quite a cougar, they said, [...]
Lost Weekend Rescued
Yep, perhaps it was the Montauk Monster, but something caused Cryptomundo to go down early in the pre-dawn A.M. on Saturday, August 2, 2008. It just was returned online. Cryptomundo is back and we don’t know why we were gone. What did you do with this time? I hope you all used it productively…perhaps shopping for Loch Ness water… Or picking up Bigfoot objects at flea markets. Of course, it was good time to catch up on the comics too. Or to ponder old cryptid photographs. No matter what, the news was still gathered, and I will catch you up [...]
New Dolphin Discovered?
The Australian media is in a whirlwind because allegedly the “first pictures of what has been dubbed the world’s ugliest dolphin were shown on Australian television on Thursday. The snub fin dolphin with its distinctive bulbous head was first identified three years ago off Western Australia’s remote Kimberley coast.” But, of course, photos had been published before of this dolphin. The Queensland government published one in its official 2007 bulletin on the species, an extract of which is shown below: Australian snubfin dolphin Common name: Australian snubfin dolphin Scientific name: Orcaella heinsohni Legislative name: Orcaella brevirostris Conservation status: The Australian [...]
New Montauk Monster Pic and Cryptid Marketing
New photographs, above, have been published of the “Montauk Monster,” which allegedly washed up on a beach in Montauk. These photos are by Christina Pampalone. The Montauk Monster has created an Internet sensation. It is today’s #1 Yahoo search. It’s been on Cryptomundo, Boing Boing, and The Anomalist for days. It reminds me of the “Maine Mutant.” Sometimes these kinds of things have a life of their own, so to speak, especially if there is a compelling image. Now we are seeing everyone under the sun piggyback (pun-intended) on the Montauk Monster. That’s okay. We’ve been here before. It is [...]
