Dr. Jeff Meldrum of Idaho will be appearing on June 30, 2007, to give a Bigfoot talk and to sell and sign his Sasquatch books in California. The official press release will be out in a month, but here’s an early heads-up, as the seating is limited to a mere 120 people in the historic Louden Nelson Center auditorium near the Bigfoot Discovery Museum in Santa Cruz, California. Here’s the updated information. BIGFOOT DISCOVERY DAY Saturday, June 30, 2007 Felton & Santa Cruz, CA Featuring a presentation by Dr. Jeff Meldrum “Sasquatch: Legend Meets Science” A one-hour lecture followed by [...]

Colossal Squid May Be Microwaved
Remember the news of the very large, appropriately named Colossal Squid just captured? Here’s an update, via news services, which are reporting, in part: Scientists at New Zealand’s national museum, Te Papa Tongarewa, have taken possession of the beast that took fishermen two hours to land after it was netted by chance in Antarctic waters last month and was frozen soon afterward to preserve it. Expert Steve O’Shea said the squid had weighed in at 1,089 pounds and measured 33 feet long — heavier but shorter than initial estimates of 990 lbs and 39 feet. It appears to be by [...]
What’s Your Bigfoot IQ?
Bigfoot! The True Story of Apes in America Here’s a new quiz that goes to the depths of your knowledge on Sasquatch and Bigfoot research. I’m joking, of course, for it is only ten questions long, but it is a good survey of some high points of your awareness of the field. It is more difficult than the previous quiz: Quiz – All About Hairy The same comment guidelines apply, as with the CZ IQ quiz. Please don’t ruin the intrigue and fun for people coming after you, even months from now. So, simple rules: You post any answers, proper [...]
Cryptomundo’s Ultimate CZ FAQs
(Click on image to see full size version, enhanced by shockbeton) Fans, friends, and readers of Cryptomundo, I have an idea that it might be good to have a permanent “Cryptomundo’s Frequently Asked Questions” location attached to the Cryptomundo site. Perhaps it would be via a long blog of answers, or series of blogs. Maybe it would be a hyperlinked sidebar dedicated location. I see this as a gift in return to all those who have done so much to keep my blogging alive here. Let me see if this will work. The details will be ironed out. But the [...]

Update: What-Is-It Solved
Please click on this image for a larger view of this thing. As noted here yesterday, the above body is on display as a “Chupacabras” in Dave’s Pawn Shop in downtown El Paso, Texas. The origins of the What-Is-It? that rests comfortably in that pawn shop has been solved. It is a creative taxidermy piece produced by Sarina Brewer, an artist well-known for her rogue creations. The following photographs, from her Custom Creature Taxidermy website, is her “Chupacabra” (sic), showing all its angles. Thanks to research conducted by a Cryptomundo reader Robert Dolan, in revealing this obvious connection. Sarina Brewer [...]
Update: Olaf the Giant Images
Click on image for full size version This is a followup to the previous posting, “Olaf, Grover Krantz and Bigfoot”. Craig Heinselman looked in his files and shares what he found: this terrible archival photocopy from the Chronicle Telegram, Elyria, Ohio, for September 23, 1985. It’s something, but merely reinforces how we can’t “see” this object. I will use this location to place any better images of Olaf the Giant that are sent in to Cryptomundo. Thank you all for looking.
Olaf, Grover Krantz and Bigfoot
Do you know the story of Olaf the Giant and the Anthropologist? This Valentine’s Day, as I mentioned here, is the 5th anniversary of the death of Professor Grover Krantz, Bigfoot researcher, who passed away at the age of 70. Krantz, it will be recalled, was the author of Big Footprints (Boulder: Johnson, 1992), revised as Bigfoot Sasquatch Evidence (Seattle: Hancock House, 1999), and the editor of The Sasquatch and Other Unknown Hominoids (Calgary: Western Publishing, 1984, with archaeologist Vladimir Markotic). Grover’s special type of academic vinegar is missed today. As many people know, Krantz would leave no stone unturned [...]
American Dime Museum Closes – Part I
We’re losing another great piece of Baltimore personality. It was esoteric and great and hilarious and very fitting for this city. Maybe it was just too good to be accepted by enough people. – John Waters, Baltimore filmmaker and director of Pink Flamingos Photo credit: Barbara Matteson. A tradition eight years in the making based on wonders, gaffs, and sideshow fakery going back hundreds of years is closing. The American Dime Museum first opened in Baltimore in 1999, but has gone the way of many such sites. The cost of keeping it open has become too much. It is no [...]
