Chasing Discovery
Chasing Discovery has its world premiere at St. Michael’s College today. I thought Cryptomundians would be interested in this new film: There’s something out there… And the men and women of cryptozoology are determined to find it. The researchers in this relatively obscure science face ridicule, financial struggles and harsh skepticism in their quest to uncover the secrets of mystery animals such as Bigfoot, Nessie and Chupacabras. This is their story… Chasing Discovery seeks to understand the researchers who delve into the zoological unknown. The cryptozoologists featured have devoted decades to researching undiscovered animals, and are among the foremost researchers [...]
What Do You Think of John Keel?
John A. Keel was a significant author of works in Forteana, cryptozoology, and ufology in the 1960s and 1970s. His Strange Creatures from Time and Space and The Mothman Prophecies, as well as his numerous articles in magazines, influenced other writers, researchers, and the general public. After the Mothman book-inspired movie appeared in 2002, interest in Keel resurfaced, briefly. His declining health, few public lectures, and then heart attack, created less attention to Keel than might have been expected. I was wondering how Cryptomundians consider his impact, legacy, and import today? What place do you think Keel with have in [...]
Cryptozoo Book With A Warning
Extreme Expedition: Travel Adventures Stalking the World’s Mystery Animals by Adam Davies (Anomalist Books) has been published. It contains a rare “warning label” not often seen on cryptozoological works. Davies, who is departing on a new Yeren expedition on April 28, 2008, is sharing with the world his most recent adventures. Does a dinosaur exist in the Congo? Does a Yeti-like creature live in the jungles of Sumatra? Does a fearsome Death Worm inhabit the deserts of Mongolia? Explorer Adam Davies has traveled some of the most dangerous places in the world in search of these and other supposedly mythical [...]
Dragons Descend on Alberta
Reports of dragon sightings in Canada are to be taken seriously. A traveling exhibition from two primarily French locations will soon be visiting the Royal Alberta Museum. Due to the fact this will be its first installation in an English-speaking site, there may be more attention to it throughout North America rather immediately.
Tales of the Rich, Famous and Cryptozoological
Who is Christopher Foyle? What do the rich and famous do with their money? Why don’t they donate it to the International Cryptozoology Museum via PayPal at lcoleman@maine.rr.com ? Ah, the questions one has while waiting in an airport for an economy class seat…ha ha. Richard Kay, recently writing for The Daily Mail, noted: The mystery of why Christopher Foyle, the nephew of the late and eccentric bookshop owner Christina, decided to quit Britain for sunnier climes is at last explained – he is off to live in tax exile in Monaco. “I’m looking forward to bumping into Sir Philip [...]
“Die, Researchers, Die!”
Perhaps it is a coincidence but on March 22, 2008, a renegade alignment of “thinkers” calling themselves the RRRgroup (although known by some critics as the “KKKgroup”) wrote a blog (together?) entitled “Death(s) will clean the UFO palate.” They begin by stating, “When ufology’s old-guard passes on – Dick Hall, Stan Friedman, Kevin Randall, John Schuessler, and even the 60ish Jerry Clark to name a few – taking hangers-on and sycophants with them (and you know who they are), the UFO palate will be cleansed.” The RRRGroup then mention others who “include Paul Kimball, Nick Redfern, Greg Bishop, and Mac [...]
Hillary’s Yeti Debunking Lives On
Sir Edmund Hillary recently died, and yet his legacy of Yeti debunking continues onward, even now through his associates. The Telegraph of Calcutta, India has published a subtle little article recalling in glowing terms Hillary’s damaging Yeti investigations, which were set up skeptically, versus open-mindedly, from the very start. In the article, “Climber recalls days with Edmund, hunting for Yeti,” the Telegraph’s correspondent writes of one man who was on the trek: Nearly half-a-century ago, Bhanu Banerjee accompanied legendary climber Edmund Hillary to a Himalayan expedition in pursuit of the Abominable Snowman and came back with some incredible memories. “Every [...]
Yowie Photo
Sometimes everyone wants to jump on the bandwagon. Sometimes people are just in the right place at the right time. What is this episode all about? Tony Healy’s and Paul Cropper’s The Yowie: In Search of Australia’s Bigfoot has made these hairy hominoids quite popular in their own country and much more well-known around the world. More people are trying to get new pieces of evidence. Now comes word that one person says he has proof. Proof…Paul Compton with one of the photos that he believes backs up his personal claims of a giant Yowie-like animal living in the Glen [...]
