The following is a copy of the release that Penn & Teller’s production company, Seymour K. Learly Productions, Inc. of Woodland Hills, California, requested I sign so they could tape an interview with me. Based upon legal advice, I merely told Penn & Teller’s production company that I would need their taping release to contain language that specifically notes that the primary production contractor and all subcontractors, as well as the network(s) where any broadcast and repeat broadcasts of this program will screen my "appearance" must ensure that all of these individuals, companies and their agents will not portray Loren [...]
Dog-Sized Monster Rabbit
Last week, in time for Easter thoughts of cuddly bunnies, images of armed hunters like this gentleman below, were broadcast around the world. The hunt for the giant rabbit said to be destroying the gardens of Felton, UK, was on. Under headlines like “Giant Rabbit Terrorizes Village” and “World Goes Crazy For Wor Rabbit,” the media informed an anxious public that: A “monster” rabbit has apparently been rampaging through vegetable patches in a small village in northern England, ripping up leeks, munching turnips and infuriating local gardeners. “They call it the monster. It’s very big — it’s nearly the size [...]
Corwin’s Yeti
Corwin’s quest for Yeti is revealed, and the results are what we expected from a skeptic. For months we’ve known that Jeff Corwin went to the Himalayas on October 20, 2005, to be filmed for the Discovery production (Animal Planet) documentary on the Yeti. See Cryptomundo postings here: 1; 2; and 3. The program airs April 15, 2006, at 8:00 PM EDT/PDT on the Discovery Networks’ Animal Planet. “Corwin’s Quest: Realm of the Yeti” is two hours long. Last weekend, “Expedition Everest: Journey to Sacred Lands” screened on the Travel Channel during a one-hour broadcast, on April 9, 2006. From [...]
Leap The CryptoHaiku Carnivorous
As Cryptomundo readers might recall, I named Carnivorous Nights: On the Trail of the Tasmanian Tiger, one of the "Top Cryptozoology Books" of last year, specifically bestowing it as "The Best Cryptozoological Expedition Book of 2005." The book is by Margaret Mittelbach and Michael Crewdson (with illustrations by Alexis Rockman). The well-written record of three people tramping about on their quest is certainly an important volume for any cryptozoologist to read. For those especially interested in the Thylacine (a/k/a Tasmanian Tiger), of course, it is a must for your collection. You might be able to win a free copy. Now [...]
Needed: Useful Info From Johor
The New Straits Times had a very short article about the Malaysian Bigfoot on April 11, 2006. It was given with various headlines in different editions, one being “Information on Bigfoot comes at a price.” This news item quoted the opinion of, as they termed him, “Bigfoot enthusiast” and biodiversity researcher Vincent Chow. He “claimed the villagers were not as forthcoming with information as before but the minute they were paid, they became very helpful and vocal.” Meanwhile, Independent reporter Jan McGirk informs me that the famed cast of the Johor Bigfoot is still the possesion of the SPI team [...]
Jersey Devil and Ivan T. Sanderson
One January night in 1909, E. P. Weeden of the Trenton, New Jersey City Council bolted upright in bed when he heard someone trying to break down his door. It was a most unusual “someone,” apparently, because Weeden also heard distinctly the sound of flapping wings. Councilman Weeden rushed to his second-floor window and looked outside. He did not see the intruder, but the sight that greeted his eyes chilled him far more than the icy temperature ever could: In the snow on the roof of his house something had left a line of tracks. And whatever that “something” was, [...]
Baseball, Sports, and Cryptids
I am a lifelong baseball fan. No denying it. I’ve been a card-carrying member of SABR for decades (if you don’t need to ask what SABR stands for, well, you understand). My two sons inherited the passion and they have become successful players. One is a winning leftie relief pitcher, now a junior in high school; my other son is the starting third baseman, a sophomore, on a college team, after being the MVP at that same high school, as their starting shortstop and relief pitcher. Gladly, I see a lot of all kinds of games, and read a good [...]
Another Ohio Bigfoot Outing
There always seems to be a lot of Bigfoot gatherings in Ohio in the spring. Here’s word of another set to happen on Saturday, April 29, 2006. According to a brief notice in the Sunday Cleveland Plain Dealer, there is to be a Bigfoot conference in Cambridge, Ohio: If you’ve ever wondered whether Sasquatch was real, you might be enlightened at this gathering at the Salt Fort State Park Resort & Conference Center (on U.S. 22). It will feature speakers, including some who will give eyewitness accounts, plus supposed photos of the beast. The conference is 4-10 p.m. and is [...]
Minnesota Iceman at Sideshow World
In an effort to share some cryptozoological information with a new group of readers, and to obtain new information on the “mysterious millionaire,” I worked with John Robinson at Sideshow World to add an overview on that specialty site about the Minnesota Iceman. Check it out at their specific page now devoted to the Minnesota Iceman there. Robinson has also posted an interesting photograph of the van that the late Frank Hansen drove around with the exhibit. Look closely at the photograph on the top of the vehicle. The Minnesota Iceman. Copyright Loren Coleman 1969.
Mothman Death List Photo
Anyone from Ohio or West Virginia? I’m looking for a Mothman death list photo. Mothman image, copyright 2002, created by cryptozoology illustrator William Rebsamen for Mothman and Other Curious Encounters In the Charleston Daily Mail of March 20, 2006, in “Mothman has his own museum,” reporter Samantha L. Thomas, discussing the collection in Point Pleasant, mentions: One attention grabber is the “death list” displayed prominently in the middle of the museum. It draws connections between the sudden or strange deaths of those associated in some way with the Mothman legend. I wonder, does anyone have a photograph of this display, [...]
