Top 10 New Species of Old and Recent Discoveries

The above is a new species with the common name of the “shocking pink dragon millipede” and the scientific Latin name of Desmoxytes purpurosea. It was first found on 28 August 2006, and first described in Zootaxa 1563: 31–36, 2007. It’s May. The end of May 2008. But apparently there is one more “top ten list” for 2007 that needs to be published. The International Institute for Species Exploration (IISE) has announced their list of the top ten new species described in 2007, which includes at least a couple extinct animals, as well. The media appears to be confusing this [...]

Indiana Mystery Canids Video

David Shetley has posted for Cryptomundo the following news video on YouTube of the Gatchel, Indiana, mystery canids. The on-camera reporter warns you it is graphic. After what you’ve all gone through this week at Cryptomundo (black panther killings, the Bigfoot massacre theory, and now this mystery pack of canids being killed), you may find this video is rather tame. The species remains unidentified. Why searching for more on this new Indiana report, I came across the following video, “Indiana Wolves,” which will serve as today’s respite from all the talk and images of the killing of animals. Enjoy.

Black Panther Killed: What Species Is It?

The breaking news headline says it all: “Deputy kills jaguar … or was it leopard?” Neosho, Missouri — A Newton County deputy shot and killed a large, black cat of uncertain species Monday morning, May 19, 2008, when the animal, either a leopard or a jaguar, charged him. Capt. Richard Leavens of the Newton County Sheriff’s Department said Vickie Sanders, 61, called shortly after 6 a.m. Monday to report what she took to be “a black panther” at the door of her home at 9555 Orchid Drive, southwest of Neosho. When Cpl. Donn Hall of the Sheriff’s Department arrived, he [...]

Unknown Animal Attacks NM Boy

A 5-year-old boy hiking with his family near Sandia Peak, New Mexico, has survived an attack from an unidentified species of large animal, a spokesman for the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish said Sunday, May 18, 2008. Bernalillo County Sheriff Darren White said the family was hiking near the popular Balsam Glade area on the Sandia Mountains, when the boy ran ahead of his parents. It happened on the east side of the Sandia Mountains around 7 p.m. Saturday. A sheriff’s department report identified the boy as Jose Salazar Jr. of Albuqureque, New Mexico. The boy’s parents saw [...]

Current Crazy Croc Encounter

Chad Arment has passed along updates on a 2 to 3 ft long crocodilian being sighted and photographed in Hickory Lake, North Carolina. Seen for a week now (since Mother’s Day, May 11, 2008), it remains uncaught. Eyewitnesses thought it was an alligator, but official speculation, at first, said it was a caiman. N.C. Department of Wildlife Agent Michael Juhan was quoted by the media saying as much. “It may have been a caiman, which is not unusual for people to have as an exotic pet before releasing it into the wild,” Juhan said. While caimans are not native to [...]

1948 “Birdmen” Cases Revisited

You have probably read about the case before. Soon after the sightings and interest in other strange things in the sky, perhaps even thunderbirds and flying men in Washington State, the Zaikowskis were quoted as saying they had seen a “flying humanoid.” The cases have been background to other discussions, as for example, when they were discussed in “The Black Flash of Cape Cod” by Theo Paijmans, about the phantomlike creature that plagued Provincetown in the 1930s, published in Intermediate States Anomalist 13. In 1948, reports of “flying humans” were coming out of two towns, Longview and Chehalis, Washington. On [...]

Spring’s White Moose & Brood XIV

The spring accounts for some of the strangest sightings. With the warmer weather finally hitting the northern hemisphere, some strange animals and cryptids may be soon visible along roadways and trails across North America and Eurasia. Here (above) a white moose is seen in Norway. Have any weird sights been reported in your area? Meanwhile, the Brood XIV seventeen-year-cicadas are waking up in the midwestern, border, and a few eastern states of the USA. They were first reported in Ohio in 1804. Their song will soon be a sweet and hauntingly familiar but short part of the evenings in those [...]

Black Lions Prowling

[Reports such as the following are rare, indeed, and do get us solidly back to a cryptozoological frame of mind. Needless to say, for those not knowing, melanistic lions - even in South Africa - are not scientifically verified. - LC] A black lion known to exist is the guard of the Pszczyna castle, Poland, 15th century. From Nelspruit, South Africa, comes this breaking story: Big black lions are said to be roaming the streets of Matsulu township outside the Mpumalanga capital, terrifying residents who say they are too afraid to walk outside at night. Residents have been making anonymous [...]
