As my recent posting on the sightings of Minnesota kangaroos noted, Midwestern encounters with cryptid ‘roos are more frequent than most people think. Now comes word that a 50 pound kangaroo was killed in rural Mauston, Wisconsin, on December 7th, by a truck driven by Ralph Hamm. And here’s the photographic proof. It had jumped out in front of Hamm’s truck in his driveway, but he could not stop. The Wisconsin State Journal noted that "kangaroos hopping around southern Wisconsin are becoming an annual occurrence. Last winter, a 130-pound kangaroo eluded Iowa County authorities for two days until he was [...]

What Is It? New Photo Mystery: Braxton Beast
What Is It? “Braxton Beast” Photo Mystery A startling new camera trap photograph of what appears to be an unknown bipedal creature has been shared with Cryptomundo by a reader. Taken literally days ago, the West Virginia photograph of the “Braxton Beast” was “captured” in a county with a well-known history of bizarreness. The Cryptomundo correspondent, a 27-year-old gentleman, Frederick B. Gerwig, sends along this information in his initial email to me earlier this week: “Here is a picture that my father’s wildlife camera (motion activated) took around 12/07/05. We are not sure what it is, but it doesn’t look [...]

Big Birds Bite Back
Our blog about the Peoria Journal-Star’s lapse in memory regarding Illinois’ 1977 Thunderbirds appears to have had an impact. The newswoman, Brenda Story “received numerous comments about [her] Nov. 28 column.” Many of these were eyewitness accounts, and others seem to be educational feedback on cryptid big birds. One email she published was from Mark A. Hall. Ms. Story ended her column with this: “I received many more e-mails and letters about big birds, but space does not allow me to print them all.” On behalf of Cryptomundo.com, thank you all for giving her your feedback, even if unpublishable, on [...]

More on Borneo’s New Animal
Possible Identification Proposed: The Rediscovery of an Extinct Species The new animal from Borneo does somewhat match another camera trap "mystery creature" photographed by Malaysian wildlife specialists, and pictured directly below. This gave me a hint of what the “new” animal might be. Take a peek… Photo credit goes to the Wildlife Conservation Society, Upper Baram Project, Malaysia. This organization obtained an interesting series of camera trap photos in 2004 on the unlogged areas of Mount Murud Kecil, Sarawak. One is of this slender unknown civet, shown above, with a very long tail, pale underparts and white around the muzzle, [...]

Media: Attack of the Show
I will be on Attack of the Show on the g4tv network on Tuesday, December 13, 2005. The program is an innovative popular culture talk show for the video and computer gaming folks, who happen to include my two elder adolescent sons (Caleb and Malcolm). Perhaps unknown to older cryptozoologists, the gaming world is populated by all kinds of creatures based upon cryptids. For some reason, the Yeti or Yeti-like creatures seem to be extremely popular. What most people furthermore might not realize, as opposed to the myth that only boys are playing games on their Playstation 2s, X-Box 360s, [...]
New Animal Discovered in Borneo
What do you think this looks like? There is exciting news out of Borneo. A new red-furred animal larger than a domestic cat has reportedly been discovered on this remote island of Indonesia. On December 5, 2005, the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) announced that they have discovered the “first new carnivore to be found in the region since the Tonkin otter-civet emerged in Vietnam in 1930.” Also, the WWF said it would be the first new mammal to be specifically found on the island of Borneo since the Borneo ferret-badger in 1895. The new carnivore was found in [...]
