Chupacabras

Chupacabras 1951

Kenneth F. Thomas, editor of the Steamshovel Press and Missouri university archivist, shares an old reference to what seems like a new occurrence of “Chupacabras” in a sinister context, which he found on August 23, 2007. Thomas writes that he made the discovery while…. …watching the 1951 movie Bride of the Gorilla with Raymond Burr and Lon Chaney. Burr gets poisoned by a witch and either starts becoming a gorilla or it’s all in his mind and he’s running around naked at night in a South American jungle. The natives are convinced that it’s a legendary beast called something like [...]

Bahia Horned Bipedal Beast Photo

Click on image for full size version. Photographs are shared with me weekly. Some are compelling (as in “interesting,” but not necessarily “evidence” quality) enough to make it to Cryptomundo. Here’s one, above, of an alleged horned biped creature on a South American riverbank just in that I find intriguing, if not curiously prosaic. Needless to say, in these days of photoshopping, frame captures from sci-fi films, and animation that nearly looks real, anything is possible as an origin of any new photo. But what is this? Does it look familiar to anyone? Here’s what I know, to date, on [...]

This “Chupacabras” Is No Mystery

Frankly, I get so tired of these Texas (and other states’) “chupacabra” stories, that these annual versions of the Chupacabras have become non-mysteries. I figured my Cryptomundo-mate Craig would post on his home state’s latest, and he has here, a few moments ago. It’s hot, the season is right, and “they” have turned up for years now. This latest one looks like a coyote, perhaps a fox, with mange. Mange is a parasitic infestation of the skin caused by mites. Mange comes in two forms, red mange (not generally contagious) and sarcoptic mange. Sarcoptic mange is a highly contagious infestation [...]

Maddening Mystery of Maine Mutant Muddled

The dead dog near the road was photographed by Michelle O’Donnell, Turner, Maine, August 2006. Click on the image to make it bigger. The Maine Mystery Beast is back. Well, at least, the animal discovered next to Route 4, which was incorrectly labeled as the killer of livestock and pets, is. Mark LaFlamme called yesterday, and interviewed me about the claims of a Florida woman that the dog probably killed by a vehicle barreling down Route 4 was her’s. Anything is possible, but the problem with this whole new sidebar to last summer’s sensational story rests in the matter of [...]
