Fort Knox is a beautiful setting, about 2.5 hours drive north of Portland, Maine. I will give an hour long talk/Q&A at next weekend’s event there, usually outdoors with artifacts, props and exhibits from my museum. When not doing that, I’ll entertain questions about cryptozoology and Bigfoot at my display table, sign books you bring for me to autograph, and sell a few books. If in Maine, come stop by and chat. Here’s the official description from the old historic fort’s website: Paranormal & Psychic Faire, Fort Knox, Maine July 5th and 6th, 2008. Meet with people who believe in [...]
Longing for Linsangs
What is one of the world’s rarest carnivores? It’s the linsang. But what’s a linsang? Of the figurine collection above, can you pick out the linsang? (The answer is below, as I share images of almost a dozen of these animal replicas for this discussion, in the last third of this posting.) During my trek in pursuit of replicas of the most unusual cryptids and animals, I made an amazing discovery of this scarce animal and its kin modeled as hand-painted small figurines. How is it that an animal so near extinction but unknown generally would have a replica made [...]
$400 Reward For $100 Bigfoot
There is a strong woman involved in this update to my earlier “Sasquatch Statue Stolen” posting. Nicole Hosack, the owner of Niki’s Quick Six is trying hard to get her hubbie’s Sasquatch back. She has created her own website with links ~ she left out Cryptomundo, humm ~ and a bit of new info. Her backstory about her husband’s and his friends’ early interest in hunting Bigfoot is interesting. Back in the late 1980′s and early 1990′s, during the age of hair bands and IROC Camaros, pegged jeans and grunge rock, a young Jared Hosack had a dream. That dream [...]
Sasquatch Statue Stolen
A theft at a convenience store in Armstrong county, Pennsylvania, has an entire town on edge, but the bad guy didn’t get away with money. Nicole Hosack, owner of Niki’s Quick Six store in Spring Church, near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, says someone made off with the store’s mascot of sorts – a three foot tall wooden Sasquatch. “They walked over to [the] Sasquatch while my employee was paying attention to wrapping up food. And they put [their] coat over it and walked out the door,” Hosack said. The statue was a Christmas present for the owner’s husband and it became a [...]
What Is Bigfoot?
Of the routine and infrequent fossil candidates submitted for consideration as to the origins of Bigfoot/Sasquatch, which one is your favorite? I begin with the premise that this unknown, yet-to-be-verified, hairy bipedal hominoid is an actual biological species. Getting beyond the argument of whether or not Bigfoot exists, what do you think might be the fossil candidate best matching the sightings and evidence of the classic Patterson-Gimlin Bigfoot, Patty, and the specimens seen during encounters aligned with her, from the Pacific Northwest of the USA and Canada? The reconstructions of William Munns give some new views of how these fossil [...]
Myakka, Masks, and John Chambers

It all began with a December 22, 2000, letter signed “God Bless. I prefer to remain anonymous,” mailed to the Sarasota (Florida) Sheriff’s Department.
LEGO Bigfoot and Yeti
Joel Johnson (the Boing Boing correspondent who toured and filmed my museum) has alerted me to the mention and actual work of Mike Stimpson, involving LEGO photography and various classic photographs that Stimpson has recreated. One of the greatest new images that Stimpson uploaded this week is an amazing Lego recreation of that famed frame from the Patterson-Gimlin footage. You know which one I’m talking about. It is “Frame 352″ from the film, showing the apparent female Bigfoot, today nicknamed “Patty.” Stimpson’s intriguing recreation… …was based on this: Of course, who could have ever known? Discovering Stimpson’s Lego recreation of [...]
What Did A Dodo Look Like?
Besides my recent Cryptomundo postings on the dodo and the moa-nalo, I have written other past entries here, which have reviewed the following often cryptic flightless bird species: elephant bird, more dodo, terror birds, more terror birds, moa, more moa, and takahē. In line with a question during an earlier discussion about how might have the dodo really appeared, the famed artist and Hollywood special effects man Bill Munn, well-known for his reconstruction of Gigantopithecus (below), contacted me. Munns wrote: “I have done scientific reconstructions of the Dodo (of how they may have looked) with all coloration based on actual [...]
Monster Quest II
It is Tuesday, May 27, 2008, and the History Channel, on behalf of “Monster Quest II,” is here in Portland, Maine, with a film producer and crew today to digitally film interviews with me about cryptozoology, in the context of a five hour tour of the International Cryptozoology Museum. Their snippets of the interviews, b-roll, and various background commentary on artifacts at the ICM will be used as web-linked support for Season Two of “Monster Quest,” which premieres tomorrow, Wednesday, May 28, 2008. Here are two trailers about the new season. Enjoy: MonsterQuest : Mutant Canines Airs on Wednesday May [...]
New Evidence of Yeren
At Don Keating’s Ohio Bigfoot Conference last weekend, the M. K. Davis presentations on the Patterson-Gimlin footage and the furor caused in the wake of the “Patty was shot” theory were not all that happened there. One presenter’s recent activities were overshadowed by the Davis “massacre theory.” That specifically was the news shared by Jeff Meldrum, Ph. D., who is a tenured Associate Professor of Anatomy and Anthropology and Adjunct Associate Professor of the Department of Anthropology at Idaho State University. Jeff Meldrum is shown second from the left, last weekend in Ohio, along with other speakers at the Bigfoot [...]
