This photograph was not published again with all the articles being run in New England (from Boston to Bangor) today on the results of the DNA sampling. Oakland — A scrap of hair and skin from a rock where an Oakland man reported seeing a mountain lion came from a fox, according to a state biologist. Still, the results of DNA testing on the sample neither prove nor disprove Oakland resident Kelvin Higgins’ assertion that he saw a mountain lion in his yard on a warm day in April, according to Keel Kemper, a state wildlife biologist. “There are a [...]
Fremont Lion Found Dead At School
When I was investigating mountain lion, puma, mystery cat, and black panther reports in the 1970s, many accounts from northern California were not believed. For example, in 1973, from Concord to Danville, California, people reported seeing a black panther. (Source: Vallejo Times-Herald, March 5, 1973.) I guess times have changed in those neck of the woods. A Fremont Unified School District employee received a very unusual greeting at work in Fremont, [California] Monday [August 13, 2007]: a dead 80-100-pound mountain lion sprawled in front of an elementary school parking lot. The animal appeared to have been struck by a vehicle [...]

Beyond Mothman: I-35W Blues
Things fall down. People look up. And when it rains, it pours.Magnolia, 1999. The collapse of the I-35W bridge in Minnesota is a tragedy, some say of epic proportions. Certainly, it is the most significant bridge collapse, not caused by an easily visible external reason like an earthquake or an impact from a barge, since 1967. An Anomaly National Transportation Safety Board Chairman Mark Rosenker said it is too early for officials to know if the accident could have been avoided. “They are built not to fall down. This is an anomaly and we’re going to try to find out [...]
Attack Panther “Like a Woolly Mammoth”
The photograph of the “Sidney Mystery Cat” taken in Maine late in June 2007. Articles about incidents in British Columbia, Ontario, and Maine have appeared recently, detailing breaking news and updates about mountain lions, cougars, panthers, puma or whatever you wish to call these great cats (Puma concolor) of North America. Here’s a roundup of panther news, from west to east: A cougar attack has left Colton Reeb with strange memories, but little fear of the big cats that roam rural areas such as the B.C. Interior region where the 12-year-old was scratched and bitten this week. “Colton remembers seeing [...]
Homo pongoides Emerges From Lausanne
The following images are more photographs being shared from the inside of “The Department of Cryptozoology B. Heuvelmans, Museum of Zoology, Lausanne, Switzerland.” This location is the sanctuary for Bernard Heuvelmans’ collection of books, paintings, and raw materials, detailing his years of cryptozoology research and gathering of cryptid data. Today, you can more clearly seen how he organized his data on unknown hairy hominiods and other cryptids. Once again, these photographs were taken and shared with me by Christoph Kummer, who was allowed to begin to examine the Heuvelmans files and then take these photographs, at my request. I then [...]
Sighting Reported to Police: “They laughed at me.”
There’s news of another recent Maine mountain lion sighting. Please click on the image of the Sidney, Maine, photograph, above, for a larger version. Kennebunkport [Maine] — It was May 30 and a hint of summer was in the air. Holly Cook had finished up work for the day and she and her husband were driving home along Goose Rocks Road near the Seashore Trolley Museum with the top down on their convertible when they saw something that stopped them in their tracks. “It was a big animal crossing the road,” she recalls. A deer? A coyote? they wondered. They [...]
Belfast’s Muck Monster
Megan Richardson’s article in a Downeast Maine newspaper will be remembered as the first media discussion of a little known Maine cryptid, Belfast’s Muck Monster. Coleman was on hand for much of the weekend to answer questions and autograph copies of his numerous books. Coleman started working in cryptozoology, which literally means the [...]
Heuvelmans Files
The following images are the first ones I have seen of the inside of “The Department of Cryptozoology B. Heuvelmans, Museum of Zoology, Lausanne, Switzerland.” This location is now the sanctuary for Bernard Heuvelmans’ collection of books, paintings, and raw material detailing his years of cryptozoology research and gathering of cryptid data. These photographs were taken and shared with me by Christoph Kummer, who was allowed to do an initial examination of the Heuvelmans files and then take these photographs, at my request. I then asked and was granted permission to publish these photos at Cryptomundo, by Olivier Glaizot, Conservateur, [...]
