New Encounters with Mande Burung (Wild Jungle People)
If you look in my book, The Field Guide to Bigfoot and Other Mystery Primates (NY: Anomalist Books, 2006), you will find range maps for some of the types of hairy hominoids that the data gathers. Some have tried to revise these maps, for example, for the “Erectus Hominids,” by expanding the range into the vast outback desert of Australia or cutting back the range from more certain Asia. It does not really matter because new reports and discovered old cases will keep changing what people feel are the ranges of any of these hominoid cryptids. The reports will speak [...]
New Johor Bigfoot Book
Sin Chew Daily journalist Lee Hoy Chin has written a new book Johor Bigfoot: The Beginning of the True Story after covering eyewitness accounts on the creature. The book is reported to be a compilation of newspaper reports on Bigfoot and other details not published in newspapers. Many people are searching for the truth about Bigfoot and I hope this book can help them learn about the subject better. Many may argue that Bigfoot is just a superstition but I hope this book will pave the way for more research on the topic. – Lee Hoy Chin The drawings from [...]
Hey, Disney: Where Are the Yeti Books?
A reader Joshua Cutchin sends along the following email to Cryptomundo today: I just returned from a visit to Walt Disney World, where I rode Expedition Everest for the first time. While I enjoyed much about the ride (the Yeti was portrayed in a very realistic manner of a white snowman), I have one glaring issue to take with the attraction. Several books by Loren Coleman are on display in the queue line’s “Yeti Museum”, as well as some of the older literature as well. Yet, at the attraction’s gift shop, there is not one book on hairy bipeds to [...]
New Indian “Bigfoot” Reports
A researcher measures a footprint thought to be that of “Bigfoot.” Villagers in Garo hills claim to have sighted mythical giant “Gigantic, hairy, ape-like…” was all that Abu Marak could utter in between gasps for breath. Surrounded by villagers in the safety of his house near Durabanda in the West Garo Hills, Abu’s eyes still mirrored the excitement of spotting the animal. Within a few days, Abu’s account, coupled with those of a few other villagers, became the raw material for a renewed scientific search for the legendary Bigfoot — mande burung in Garo. Sasquatch in North America, Yowie in [...]
Yeti Hunter’s Involved Brother Dies
Earl F. Slick, 86, whose brother will forever be tied to Yeti, died on May 13, 2007, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. The family delayed a public announcement until after services and his burial. He is shown above in the 1940s, with a model of one of the air freight carriers in his then-new company. Earl F. Slick was the brother of Tom Slick, the millionaire adventurer and Yeti hunter of the 1950s and early 1960s. Earl served as a pilot in World War II, and was linked to the famed Flying Tigers that transported cargo across the Himalayas during the [...]
Mothman’s Eyes: What Color?
Bill Rebsamen’s illustration completed for me in 2001, for use on the cover of my Mothman book. Does it matter what color the eyes of a more stylized imaging of Mothman appears in graphic art? Two color drawings of “Coleman’s Cryptozoo” arrived overnight from Len Peralta. What version of Mothman‘s eyes do you like? For a look at the black and white initial example of Len Peralta’ art again, go to ” Cryptozoo by Mail”. Should illustrative, graphic, and comic art stay close to the original descriptions of cryptids, or can it be appreciated as a form and extension of [...]
Cryptozoo by Mail
Ever wanted your own personalized cryptid? Well, for twenty bucks you can have your idea envisioned by an artist who quickly draws your desire, via Monster by Mail. (See more ordering info at the bottom of this posting.) Thanks to Rogier van Bakel, I heard about this artist, Len Peralta who is in the midst of drawing a very limited number (150) of “Cryptozoo” cryptids. Getting in contact with Len, I challenged the artist to do an original hand-drawn sample of his specially imagined “Coleman’s Cryptozoo” with a Yeti, Nessie, Bigfoot, Mothman, and Dover Demon, and email me the result. [...]
Abominable Snowmen Are Hot!
New images and news of Yetis being celebrated are demonstrating a growing renewed interest in the ancient hairy ones of the Himalayan Mountains. Above is a new image of the Yeti by artist RobRoy Menzies (pictured below), who was profiled over the weekend on his local NBC affiliate (click here). Menzies’ illustration is intriguing because he is showing how these creatures can seemingly merge with their environment. No doubt a rare few Abominable Snowmen, who are more often reported to be reddish-brown than white, are lighter colored. Perhaps there’s a winter coat color phrase that is off-white in rare cases, [...]
Coast to Coast AM: Male Chauvinism Within Bigfoot Research?
Of course, at some level, one could say we don’t even know what we are looking for and what skills or odors or equipment it will ultimately take to find unknown hairy hominoids. After all, we haven’t found any Bigfoot, Yeti, Almas, or Skunk Ape yet, so what we have been doing isn’t working – or the unknown hairy hominoids are not out there. But that doesn’t stop some people from criticizing others who are for a completely open field of investigators – from academics to truck drivers, from women to men, from true believers to skeptics. For example, in [...]
