Everyone talks about Bigfoot breasts, but aren’t we ignoring another rather significance part of the filmed Bigfoot body? In a forthcoming Fall 2007 issue of TAPS Paramagazine I examine in detail the never or little discussed theory that the female “Patterson Bigfoot” shows steatopygia, which by definition is the extreme accumulation of fat on the buttocks. In anticipation of the publication of my thoughts on that matter, here are some visuals to examine during the month leading up to the 40th anniversary of the filming of Bigfoot at Bluff Creek, California, which occurred on October 20, 1967. They are archival [...]
Tianchi Lake Monsters Video
Here is the Chinese footage from an Italian news station, apparently.
New Flying Fox Discovered
The pictured flying fox (above) is the Ausytralian grey-headed flying-fox (Pteropus poliocephalus), which was first described in 1825 by Temminck. A new species of flying fox or fruit bat has been discovered. A new species of flying fox or fruit bat has been found and verified from Mindoro Island, south of Manila, Philippines, it was reported Monday, September 17, 2007, by the news service AFP and other media sources. The orange-colored bat with a distinctive white-stripped face was discovered in a protected wildlife area of Mindoro Island, as detailed by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR). Known as [...]
Discoverer of Lost Cities Dies
Gene Savoy Disappearing quickly are the days of the explorers who found lost cities in the jungles of South America, along with the other adventurers who cut their way through rainforests finding new animals and strange unknown native peoples. One of these apparent real “Indiana Jones” died last week. Here is part of Associated Press writer Martin Griffith’s remembrance: Douglas Eugene “Gene” Savoy, an explorer who discovered more than 40 lost cities in Peru and led long-distance sailing adventures to learn more about ancient cultures, has died. He was 80. Savoy died of natural causes Tuesday [September 11, 2007] at [...]
Steve Irwin’s New Turtle Discovery
Steve Irwin’s father, Bob, pictured lower left, discusses the naming of the new turtle, lower right, after Steve. To round out the picture of the late Steve Irwin’s contributions to cryptozoology, beyond his search for Thylacines, it is worthy of mentioning that Steve Irwin discovered a new animal, a turtle, which has now been named after him. Television personality Steve “Crocodile Hunter” Irwin and his father, Bob, caught a unknown turtle on a fishing line during a camping trip in 1990. It was new to them, and thus Steve took photographs and sent them to turtle authority John Cann. After [...]
Alleged 1924 Ropen Footage?
On September 13th, 2007, Azrul Hisyam Saleh sent me the above footage. It was presented as an “old 1924 video of supposed Pterosaur in PNG.” I was in no mood to rush to publish this on this blog. But now I’m seeing this footage crop up on creationist sites and crypto blogs. Ugh. So I’ll place it here, make a brief remark, and open it to your comments. To me it looks like someone put a painted tail (I can’t see the wings move) on an old film, maybe even one from the 1920s, of a frigate bird. Several things [...]
Not Missing
It has been determined that this was a hoax. Please disregard. The police may become involved in this unfortunate false missing person report.
Flathead Lake Monster Hunters
Flathead Lake Monster sightings at Flathead Lake, Montana, have been discussed for a long time and been on my radar for decades. I remember in the 1960s exchanging letters with Paul Fugleberg about the creature. It is a popular Lake Monster, known for more than funny postcards and oldtimers’ tales. Some of the monster encounters appear to describe sturgeon sightings, while others are of a Nessie-type creature. Since first observed in 1889, the state department of Fish, Wildlife and Parks has recorded sightings with 1993 seeing a near-record 11 cases. In the 1990s, Jim Vashro, the regional fisheries manager for [...]
Cryptozoologically A+: “Destination Truth”
As I freely admitted before here, I haven’t had much time to see and take in “Destination Truth.” I mostly have been withholding judgement until I could see it, as the reviewers writing into Cryptomundo have been mixed in their reactions. Some people like it, some loathe it. A few people are distracted by the level of evidence presented by the program, but I think that’s another type of critique altogether. So here is what I discovered: Bottomline, this show is very good for cryptozoology. The show has as its tent pole person, Joshua Gates. He is a strong personality, [...]
