On June 20, 2008, the alligator above was caught in a branch of the Chicago River, Illinois; it measured 4½ feet long and about 45 pounds. The alligator was found in the Bubbly Creek, in a woodsy area near 37th Street and Racine Avenue, which at one time was one of the dirtiest parts of the river. It just stayed submerged with its eyes popping out like in the documentaries. It was in stealth mode, I think.Bill Cox, director of human resources for Midland Metal Products Cox was among about a dozen Midland employees who spotted the female alligator swimming [...]
Cryptid Jaguarundi Research
Mystery felid cryptozoologist Dave Pelley writes Cryptomundo that his research on the cryptid jaguarundi (Puma yaguarondi) in Florida is ongoing. Pelley shares this update: I’ve been hot on the trail of the Florida jaguarundi for about a year now, and I think we are darn close to getting proof that a sizable population exists here in the central part of the state. Thus far I have four eyewitness accounts of a particular jaguarundi that frequents my neighborhood, as well as plaster casts and a possible scat sample (frozen!). I’ll keep you guys posted! You can see a mini doc that [...]
Creature Creator’s Cryptids
The following is a guest blog from Miguel Romero, a.k.a Red Pill Junkie, and Cryptomundo appreciates his insights into this speciality topic: Electronic Arts (EA), one of the biggest developers of videogames in the world, is about to release the much anticipated Spore, created by Will Wright, the man behind the acclaimed SIMs titles that let gamers create and administer entire cities, or manage the lives and social interactions of customized virtual characters, also known as avatars. But Spore is a much more ambitious experience—which is one of the reasons it has taken so long to be developed—since the goal [...]
Cryptid Giant Snake Shot & Sank
Chad Arment, author of Boss Snakes: Stories and Sightings of Giant Snakes in North America, passes along this intriguing new case. The python [sic - no actual scientific identification occurred] snake that was spotted on Lake Sinclair [Georgia, USA] earlier this spring [2008] was killed by a Putnam County Sheriff’s Department deputy last Thursday [apparently June 12th, 2008; as June 19th, probably would have been referred to as "yesterday"]. The deputy shot the snake three times with a shotgun and the creature then sank to the bottom of the lake. No pictures were taken. Repair crews were in the Twin [...]
Black Panther Roundup
Panthers, the mysterious felid kind, have been in the news of late. Here’s a roundup. In Mississippi, the encounters are becoming so frequent the media is comparing them to Sasquatch sightings. Fancy that. Jamie Daughdrill of Brooklyn, Mississippi, is one of those area residents who claims to have proof that a black panther roams the southern part of Forrest County. He has a photo (above) of a black feline walking across his food plot that he took with his game camera. But he couldn’t find any tracks near the game camera. “All I’m saying is that it’s big and black [...]
Errant Kangaroo Alert!
Okay, out-of-place alligators are one thing, but things are getting serious now. Here is the first report in a long time of an out-of-place encounter of the Mystery Marsupial kind. This cryptid kangaroo sighting is from Florida, with the first sighting taking place during the second week of June 2008. No news about these cryptid critters has been heard since those sightings of Mystery Kangaroos in Mississippi, last August 2007. Of course, other Mystery Kangaroo reports from past years on Cryptomundo can be found from Austria, Wisconsin, and Minnesota. Or who can forget the “Killer Kangaroos” of 1934? Accounts of [...]

Sea Monster Quest
As part of an EPSRC funded public understanding of science project, the University of St. Andrews has teamed up with the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) to produce a website dedicated to the statistics/biology behind whale surveys. Visitors (aged 16 -21) can play a computer game which takes them on a whale survey and explains how whale population numbers are actually estimated. The winner of the computer game (and a friend) can win the chance to go on an actual whale survey in the IFAW sail boat Song of the Whale at the end of the summer. The competition [...]

Radioactive Wisent?
The goverment of Ukraine intends to introduce a threatened species, the European bison or wisent (Bison bonasus), into the exclusion zone around the stricken Chernobyl nuclear reactor. The plan is to create a nature reserve where the bison can thrive in the absence of humans. The minister in charge of Chernobyl, Volodomir Shandra, says there are clean areas within the 30-kilometre radius where the pilot scheme could work. The wisent is the heaviest surviving land animal in Europe, a relic of the Pleistocene megafauna of Eurasia. A forest dwelling species, wisent were first scientifically described by Carolus Linnaeus in 1758. [...]
