New Japanese Yeti Expedition Departs
The Pink Tentacle (what a great blog name) is reporting on a new six-week long Yeti expedition. The seven-member crew of experienced climbers, led by veteran Yeti hunter and mountaineer Yoshiteru Takahashi, will depart Japan on on Saturday, August 16, 2008. Their destination is in the Dhaulagiri mountains in central Nepal, where they will establish base camp at an elevation of 4,300 meters (14,000 ft) and set up an array of automated infrared, motion-sensitive cameras along a ridge. Writes the Pink Tentacle, in part: The expedition is Takahashi’s third attempt to find the elusive creature. The 65-year-old mountaineer first became [...]
Yeti News
The Associated Press carries an article today, in essence, saying the belief in the Yeti is on a decline in Bhutan as it becomes modernized. Here are some snippets from “Losing the Yeti in Forgotten Nation of Bhutan,” by Tim Sullivan: In the West, yeti-like creatures long ago were reduced to myth. The Abominable Snowman is something from a “Scooby Doo” episode, or part of the latest installment in Hollywood’s “Mummy” franchise. To mainstream science, the notion of Bigfoot is little more than a joke. But across the Himalayas the beast was seen as real, known for generations in a [...]

Coleman vs Nickell: Round Two for Champ Week
Round One: In the otter competitive battle between the forces of good and evil, the following is the clip from CNN’s “Paula Zahn Now,” for June 1, 2007, on Nessie, which was run in the final moments of her program. It was originally scheduled to be five minutes long. At the time, my author friend Jerry Clark noted that what was operating here, in counterpoint to my view, was: The Nickell principle: “We will take up an existence by its otters.” Coincidentially, another good friend, Patrick Huyghe emailed me: “Joe was otterly ridiculous.” Round Two: Bigfoots and Yetis and Champ, [...]
New Yeti Hairs and Hillary
The Yeti hair sample shows split ends. The first update to the testing of the Yeti hair sample is in, and the results are “inconclusive,” not too surprisingly. Initial results showed it had human and ape-like characteristics. Ian Redmond, a biologist and expert in ape conservation, said the hairs found in the Indian jungle resembled samples collected by the conqueror of Everest, Sir Edmund Hillary, in the 1950s. “Under the microscope, they look slightly human, slightly like an orang utang and slightly like the hairs brought back by Edmund Hillary,” Redmond told AFP. “These hairs remain an enigma. They could [...]
Monsters of Legend: Bigfoot
The History Channel, in conjunction with “MonsterQuest” via MSN, have been issuing videotaped interviews with myself and others. These vignettes are presented from the “files of The History Channel with cryptozoologist, author and lecturer Loren Coleman, anthropologist David Gilmore, biologist Richard Ellis and folklorist Adrienne Mayor” offering commentary on the legends of Bigfoot, the Loch Ness Monster, mermaids and dragons. Video vignettes with short commercial introductions are online at MSN. Here is their “Bigfoot” video. DNA Test For Yeti Hair
Technician John Wells looks at the hairs through a microscope as Anna Nakaris, anthropolgist, and Ian Redmond, primatologist, look on. The hunt for the mysterious Yeti – otherwise known as the Abominable Snowman – has frustrated scientists for decades. Yesterday, scientists at Oxford Brookes University joined in the hunt after being given a number of hair strands taken from what is purported to be a Yeti-like creature in India. The Brookes boffins used high-powered microscopes to analyse the samples found in the West Garo jungle of the north-eastern state of Meghalaya. They compared the suspected Yeti strands to samples taken [...]
Bigfoot Body on C2C
Okay, so the power was turned off in the bfters’ freezer in Georgia, they are telling us. Okay, they are being harassed. All the July fees for the bftrackers “expeditions” are being refunded. What does this all sound like to you? Is an exit scenario being developed? As I mentioned here yesterday, late last night a “Coast to Coast AM with George Noory” producer invited me to come on as their guest to discuss the Georgia Bigfoot body case and the Grassman episode of “MonsterQuest.” I was exhausted from the Royal Alberta Museum jetlag, so I respectfully declined. The program [...]
