Dale and Valerie Tompkins, the eyewitnesses, talk about the details.
New Brunswick’s Black Bigfoot
There are reports on a possible Bigfoot sighting a few miles east of the Maine-Canada border near Skiff Lake. And it is black.
The Windigo and The Beheading
Windigo can be the hairy hominoid, the cannibal giant, and the psychosis. The three are merging and swirling around in the recent story of the decapitation and eating of flesh on the Canadian Greyhound bus. The Windigo (also known as the Wendigo, Windago, Windiga, Witiko, Wihtikow, and numerous other variants) is an unknown hairy hominoid tied to the legends and folklore of First Nations people linked by the Algonquin languages. The Windigo is a bipedal hairy creature, equal to the Eastern Bigfoot, Stone Giant, or Marked Hominid in some classification systems, which is often said to have aggressive behaviors and [...]
Pennsylvania’s Breaking Bigfoot Sightings
The recent rumors of a white Bigfoot in Carbondale, Pennsylvania, are spotlighted in this video news report. The “White Bigfoot” being seen near Carbondale, Pennsylvania, may be related to this, “Strange Hominid Sighting Reported Near Red Lion, York County, Pennsylvania,” for July 18, detailed on July 30th, here. Carbondale is 171 miles away, mostly north on I-81, from Red Lion in York County, Pennsylvania. It would seem they hardly are related. But stranger links have been made, of course. The account begins… “I received a telephone call today from a woman who claims to have seen a small Bigfoot-like creature [...]
Durham Gorilla Update
Durham’s ‘gorilla’ Weird, Wicked Weird By Kathryn Skelton, Lewiston Sun-Journal Staff Writer, Lewiston, Maine Saturday, August 2, 2008 Was it really a bear? A hippie? A costumed hooligan? 35 years ago, something funky had this town talking. Young bike-riding friends were the first to see it: something big, hairy, scary. After one mom saw it, too – she described an ape peeking out from behind bushes – 30 police cars circled Durham with orders to shoot. Over several days, more townspeople would describe the animal as a black bear, a large dog, a chimpanzee, an orangutan, a gorilla. “George Huntington [...]
35 Years Ago: Maine’s “Gorilla”
The Maine news media are warming up their stories on the Durham “gorilla.” I’ve been contacted, asking me if I heard the rumor that a zoo released an ape in 1973, in Maine. Of course, I have not and have not been able to track down any factual basis to such a rumor. Besides, Maine doesn’t have any zoos, in general, other than seasonal ones at York and on Mt. Desert Island, and certainly none that lost or released an ape in 1973. Also, one sheriff’s deputy was tracked down by another reporter, but refused to talk to the media. [...]
On the Track With William Dranginis
Thirteen years ago, William Dranginis saw Bigfoot. Fifty grand, a van, and a camera in a log later, the quest continues. William Dranginis knows what you’re thinking, so maybe it’s best to get a few things straight right from the start. He’s not crazy, delusional, some lunatic on the fringe. For the most part, he’s your average suburban family man. Lives on a quiet street in Manassas. Has a great wife and two daughters; just became a grandfather. Has a good job designing surveillance equipment for the Windermere Group, an Annapolis-based technology firm that does contract work for the government. [...]
Snowshoe Sasquatch
An ad in from the Elkins, West Virginia’s The Inter-Mountain reads: SASQUATCH EVIDENCE: Areas of known Sasquatch activity have been located at Snowshoe Mountain. Interested parties can visit these locations by calling 877-441-4FUN. Thanks to Helen McGinnis for sharing this. She “called that number and learned where I can make room reservations or plan a conference. Not a word about Sasquatch.”
Ohio's Grassmen
Thank goodness the ghosts are gone. It’s back to monsters this evening folks, so let’s celebrate. Tonight’s “MonsterQuest” is about the “Ohio Grassman,” one of the local names for the Eastern Bigfoot-types reported in this Midwestern state, a bona-fide cryptid. It also features good guy, well-known Ohio Bigfoot conference organizer and Cleveland Indians fan Don Keating. Don Keating describes a plaster casting he has in his collection from early 1991 for the History Channel’s program “MonsterQuest.” The casting is from a series of five footprints discovered near Newcomerstown. Blogsquatching: Interface and Malfunction
Carl Diehl’s Metaphortean Space nicely adds a shiny chrome, intellectually-friendly frame around his insights into “blogsquatching”: An interface is typically designed to make the new domain easier for a “user” to comprehend. When this remediation works, the user is fairly oblivious to the crossing-over that is going on. On the contrary, malfunction typically calls attention to the collision of worlds, maintaining itself as burden on presumed purposes. This sort of dissonance might seem to complicate the credibility of such a thing as “the interface of malfunction.” If there is hesitation…so be it. An experiential and interpretative encounter with this mechanism [...]
