Show You The Money? $5000 Could Be Yours Cryptozoologists, Bigfooters, and others pursuing hidden animals are despondent all the time about not having any funding for their quests. But right now, people have no excuse for complaining if they miss out on the money that is out there for the taking. Ask yourself, have you obtained a cryptid-related photo and are keeping it in a drawer that might get you $5000 in your effort to continue your search for Bigfoot? Well, act quick. Your time is running out to turn it in for that contest you first heard about last [...]
Cryptozoology on the Travel Channel
As mentioned earlier here, the program Weird Travels on the Travel Channel has produced a series of episodes that focus on cryptozoology. One that just premiered a couple of weeks ago is being rebroadcast on January 30th. It is "Bigfoot" with Craig Woolheater, his crew, and a few words from yours truly, from 6:00 to 7:00 PM, Eastern. But this is only the tip of the crypto-iceberg. The following is the schedule through the end of February for three episodes, "Lake Monsters" (about Nessie and Champ), "Creepy Creatures" (about Sasquatch, Loch Ness Monsters, and Mothman), and "Bigfoot." All times are [...]
Sasquatch Dumpling Gang
Sasquatch Dumpling Gang (2006) appears to be on its way to becoming a runaway hit. The well-respected motion picture review site, Film Threat, has declared the film a five-star (out of five) success. The plot is intellectually and enjoyably complex, but basically is about a group of teenage friends who discover what appear to be Sasquatch footprints in the woods near the lead character’s home. Soon to visit them is Bigfoot expert Dr. Artimus Snodgrass (whom Film Threat calls “a pretentious, over-the-top scientist played by Carl Weathers”). Needless to say, the movie allegedly takes some twists down the path of [...]
Movies, Music, and Teaching About Hidden Animals
I guess I could discuss the ill whale swimming up the Thames today, and how the crowds are flocking to see it. It does remind me of what might have happened along the New England coast in 1817-1819, during the era of all those Sea Serpent sightings. Or I could talk about the fact that at the Slamdance Film Festival, The Sasquatch Dumpling Gang is being screened, or that some infamous Skunk Ape “hunters” are performing at their own “Everglades Swamp Hop” music festival. But, hey, those stories are merely evidence of the usual cryptozoology entertainment news. (Well, maybe a [...]
$5000 for Bigfoot Pix
"Has Bigfoot Made a Cameo Appearance in Any of Your Photos? Submit Photographic Evidence of Legendary Creatures’ Existence and Win up to $5,000," reminds the headline about the Duel Masters photography contest, ending at the start of February 2006. Read more about the contest in the Duel Masters press release. Good luck to the contest submitters.
Bigfoot Hunt Turns Tragic on Brush Mountain, Pennsylvania
Searching for Bigfoot is not a recreational activity that should be taken lightly. Our thoughts and condolences to the families involved. We congratulate the local press for not using the often-employed “ridicule factor” in the reporting of this story. It should be a cautionary tale for anyone exploring areas that may experience adverse weather conditions. Near Greenwood, Pennsylvania, two individuals, Paul Diehl, 53, and Joe Quirin, 47, decided to go looking for Bigfoot on Brush Mountain. On Thursday, January 5, 2005, Mr. Diehl was found dead on an old fire trail, about a half-mile from Utah Road and LaSalle Lane. [...]
First Image of Malaysian Bigfoot ?
A new drawing of the Malaysian “Bigfoot” has been released in Friday, January 6th’s New Straits Times with their article “Closing in on Bigfoot, foreign media set to descend on Johor.” The sketch appears to illustrate the more distinctive Malaysian unknown hairy hominid, which technically is a more humanlike cryptid, and very different that the classic, stocky Pacific Northwest USA’s Bigfoot or Sasquatch. I have previously discussed in my and Patrick Huyghe’s field guide, as has Mark A. Hall in his books, how the Malaysian unknown hairy hominoid reports divide into two quite separate types: those of the True Giant [...]
Cryptozoologists Who Died in 2005
Sadly, 2005 saw the death of several people that had an impact on the establishment and ongoing work of cryptozoology. If you know of others, (e.g. researchers in the Loch Ness Monster pursuit, Bigfooters, or other cryptozoologists), please let me know, via the comments. I’ll update this list, as we learn of other passings. If you wish to jot down some words in remembrance of someone on the list, your thoughts would be warmly appreciated. Here’s some of the people we will miss and who have ended their quests. (The following list contains links to fuller obituaries.) Marine Lance Cpl. [...]
