(Click on image to see full size version, enhanced by shockbeton) Fans, friends, and readers of Cryptomundo, I have an idea that it might be good to have a permanent “Cryptomundo’s Frequently Asked Questions” location attached to the Cryptomundo site. Perhaps it would be via a long blog of answers, or series of blogs. Maybe it would be a hyperlinked sidebar dedicated location. I see this as a gift in return to all those who have done so much to keep my blogging alive here. Let me see if this will work. The details will be ironed out. But the [...]
More Bigfoot “Wallace Line” Images
Reexaming archival photographs of Bigfoot track photos, casts, and “souvenirs” does expose hints of how deeply the “cultural icons” of Ray Wallace’s damaging handiwork have penetrated. My appreciation is given to Cryptomundo reader Dale Drinnon who has sent in the above scan of an old postcard that was sold at Happy Camp, California, apparently in the 1960s or early 1970s. Drinnon writes: “It looks to me like the one track cast [on the left in the photograph] has [evidence of] that crack in the heel.” There was nothing on the other side of the postcard. Dale Wallace displays Ray Wallace’s [...]
S. F. Chronicle: $100,000 Bigfoot Scam? John Green’s Challenge
John Green (right) interviews Albert Ostman about Ostman’s 1924 Sasquatch abduction incident in British Columbia. Green, who turns 80 in 2007, has been involved in many foundation cases, needless to say. Recent discussions here have been about the Blue Creek Mountain – Onion Mountain tracks found in 1967, by John Green and others. Green feels very passionate about keeping these tracks within the realm of what are seen as genuine prints, despite mounting evidence that they were pranked or hoaxed by Ray Wallace and/or his associates. Everyone has an equal say about this affair. John Green, who is greatly respected [...]
A Life Explored In Words
I sometimes neglect the fact that few people know really what I have written, in total. Today, for example, a young man emailed me with this message: “How many books have you done Loren? I have only come across two.” Well, I can forget myself, often, for many reasons. It happens. Ha ha. Memory and lists of things-to-do aside, one reason is that there are many ways to count the unfolding of my life that occurs via my modest library of written works. You can look at “how many” in terms of various editions, revisions, and reprints. Or you can [...]
We’ve Been Webby Nominated!
Someone is watching us! Actually, lots of people. For several months, Cryptomundo has ranked #1 as the most popular cryptozoology site in the world, beating out, in overall rank by three times, the next most visited site, and by six times, the third ranked cryptozoology site. This week your universal praise and readership reached a level for which I could hardly have hoped. Cryptomundo was “invited” (a form of “nomination”) for a Webby. The Webby Awards is the preeminent International award for the Internet, honoring the world’s best Websites, Interactive Advertising, Online Film & Video, and Mobile Websites – the [...]

Look for Palecek Looking for Bigfoot
The Sioux City Journal mentions a talk on January 11, 2007, by a Bigfoot cryptofiction and cryptopolitical writer. Author Mike Palecek of Sheldon, Iowa, will provide a reading from his most recent book, Looking for Bigfoot: A Novel for America, at 7 p.m. Thursday in Meis Recital Hall on the Briar Cliff University campus. Palecek, a peace activist and one-time candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives, also will share selections from some of his other novels, including KGB, The Truth and Terror Nation. The author will sign copies of his books following the reading which is sponsored by the [...]
New Book: The Terror
Little, Brown and Company has published, on January 8, 2007, a new novel with cryptozoological fiction as a major component of the plot. Dan Simmons’ The Terror: A Novel features a central character that is a creature, the Thing, which attacks and slowly kills off the crew members. Here’s what Publishers Weekly has to say: Hugo-winner Simmons (Olympos) brings the horrific trials and tribulations of arctic exploration vividly to life in this beautifully written historical, which injects a note of supernatural horror into the 1840s Franklin expedition and its doomed search for the Northwest Passage. Sir John Franklin, the leader [...]
Shadows of Existence
I posted the cover on July 21, 2006, and gave the book an honorable mention on December 12, 2006. Let me share some more thoughts I have about Matthew Bille’s Shadows of Existence. Starting with the beautiful cover by William Rebsamen, there is a hint that this book contains material you don’t find in most of the run-of-the-mill cryptozoology books. I think that is the strength of Bille’s books. He takes somewhat obscure cryptids, and gives them a platform. His books are historically significant because he does an excellent job in overviewing discoveries. What bothers me about this book is [...]
