It’s stuff like this that gives hominology a bad name. I don’t especially like to report on scandals and personal disagreements. However, there seems to be something happening on the fringes of Bigfootry that might boil over into public media exposure, jail time or a court confrontation. Therefore, I should at least give you a chance to know it’s occurring, mention highlights of both sides of the story, and then you can decide to read more about it or not. It involves Tara Hauki (above) of Happy Camp, California, and Jon-Erik Beckjord (pictured below) of the San Francisco Bay Area. [...]
Crowe’s Bigfoot Newsletter Has Died
A long-time member of the Western Bigfoot Society (sometimes called the International Bigfoot Society) just emailed me that Ray Crowe is officially discontinuing his monthy meetings, and his long-time Bigfoot newsletter, The Track Record. It is well known that Ray has had a long battle with heart disease and diabetes, which is contributing to his decision. At this point, the future of the WBS and the The Track Record may be elusive, as the status of the 501(c)3 may now be in jeopardy or soon gone. Discussions by the membership are expected soon on how to continue Ray Crowe’s work [...]
Yahoo Picks Cryptomundo
The following is up and active on the Yahoo home page. Click on the direct link below noted at their “Cryptomundo” title for all of the hyperlinks Yahoo has added to the exchange. This is a direct copy of their interview, which they have given me permission to post. I added a few familiar Cryptomundo photos to keep your retro visual interests occupied.- LC Cryptomundo by Jon Brooks Early last year, we took a look at Cryptomundo, a site that scours the Web for news of “the most elusive and rare animals (cryptids) on this planet Earth.” Since then, sightings [...]
Your Thoughts On MonsterQuest?
Monster Quest or MonsterQuest (the production company spells it both ways) – or at least their first program – was on last night, Halloween. I missed it. I knew the program was on and told you all about it via Cryptomundo. But I missed it due to the fact I was on the radio during that exact hour (10-11 pm Eastern), talking about cryptozoology on the Brad Steiger Halloween Special on The Jeff Rense Radio Program. Someone mentioned on a yahoolist I was on the program. I can’t imagine my segment was long, as I only recall mentioning Champ a [...]
When A Mangy Bear Is Just A Mangy Bear
The image here was posted to Cryptomundo as “Créature de Jacobs” and noted as being of a bare bear. It was added to the site to help those people trying to figure out what the latest blobsquatch photograph posted over at the BFRO was, which was being called a “juvenile Sasquatch.” I find it amazing that certain individuals started throwing out the words “Chupacabear,” “detective work,” and “photoshopping” with regard to this above photograph. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission photograph was employed, on occasion, with a news story coming out of Florida four years ago, about routine sightings of [...]
Bigfoot & The Dover Demon in Red Sox Nation
The more you are in this business, the more humbled by it you become.- Meryl Streep. Above: Tim Binnall and Don Keating. Don has his Ohio State shirt on for the first night of the conference, and then proudly wore his Cleveland Indians outfit for the night of his presentation, while in the midst of Red Sox Nation. Bigfoot was the least of his worries over the weekend. Tim Binnall of binnall of america (yes, it’s lower case) has published his review of this last weekend’s Mass Monster Mash. Binnall, ever the good writer and journalist, is an excellent interviewer. [...]
Binnall, Keating, and Me
Tim Binnall, a radio journalist of some note, attended the Mass Monster Mash and gathered several interviews. Watch his site, Binnall of America for his forthcoming commentary and interviews. John Horrigan, an excellent host and conference organizer, honored Tim with two well-deserved recognition plaques on both nights of the events. Tim also took photographs. He is the first to publish images from the conference on the web. Here’s two: Tim with me and Tim with Don Keating. Don gave a good Fortean talk on his “White Sasquatch” video, and I gave the first lecture of my life exclusively on the [...]
Should Cryptozoology Throw Out “Hangers-Ons”?
Sometimes challenges need to be confronted head-on. I want to address a call from a blogger who says that cryptozoology is a credible discipline needing to “rid itself of the hangers-on” especially visible at other rival cryptozoology sites. A woman on top of her own self-named “Llewtrah’s Soapbox”, in a blog entitled “Fox With Mange,” has this to say about our favorite subject (cryptozoology, please note, not mange) today, Monday, October 15: Cryptozoology is the study of “hidden” or “unproven” animals – ones not yet scientifically recognised. The plus side is that new species being discovered, or rather animals long [...]
Dangerous Names
In Mysterious America, I have written about the sinister nature of the “name game.” There can be a bloody side to the name game, as well. I’ve published some thoughts about this – as evidenced by the Ohio school shooting this week – in new blog over at the Copycat Effect site, here: “Cleveland’s Coon: A Columbine Copycat”. I am not shy about confronting the racial underpinnings in issues, so for those faint of heart about that topic, you won’t want to read that blog. As many of you know, as a consultant and volunteer, I am involved in preventing [...]
The Dover Demon Lives
Move over Ortiz, Manny and Beckett! Share the media airwaves Boston Red Sox! I will be on television around 4:15 p.m. on Boston’s “NewsDay Live,” this Friday, October 12th, on the New England Cable Network, speaking about Mysterious America and specifically, the Dover Demon. A figurine of the Dover Demon is displayed at the International Cryptozoology Museum in Portland, Maine. The strange creature was spotted in Dover, Massachusetts, in 1977. The Dover Demon sculpture is by artist Steve Goodrich of New York State. (Photograph: Amber Waterman/Sun Journal.) This weekend (see poster below), I will also be speaking about the Dover [...]
