Extreme Expeditions author Adam Davies’ just-released footage of the “Seljord Serpent” or Selma is actually secret footage that has never been released before. (See my previous blog on this sterling example of blobdracontology, here.) Jan-Ove Sundberg of the Swedish group GUST writes: The Selma video you now write about at Cryptomundo was taken on our expedition to Lake Seljordsvattnet in 1999. That Adam & Co. took it has been kept a secret by them until now, but GUST have published many articles about the video. See this feature [which is in Swedish] published in 2005 (I have taken no less [...]
Seljord Serpent Filmed: Blobdracontology?
Selma, the so-called “Sea Serpent” that lives in Lake Seljord (Seljordsvatnet) obviously would have to be a Lake Monster, akin to the Loch Ness Monster. The location is near the inland town of Seljord, a municipality in the county of Telemark, Norway. The town’s coat-of-arms was created in 1989, and shows the “sea serpent Selma.” According to most who have seen the supposed watery cryptid, Selma resembles a giant eel. The first eyewitness accounts date back to the 18th century. This is video of the “Seljord Serpent” or Selma, which was taken at Lake Seljord, Norway, by Adam Davies and [...]
Blobsquatch in the Expanded Field
More from Metaphortean Carl Diehl, here are videos of his “Blobsquatch in the Expanded Field” from 2006-2007, and, at the bottom, his visual and sound tribute to the Patterson-Gimlin footage on the occasion of its 40th anniversary in 2007, his “Crypto-Zoetropical Pursuit.” These are not for the intellectually faint of heart or sensitive of hearing. Diehl takes Sasquatch, Globsters, and various other cryptids and phenomena to places they have never been before. His exploration of the fringe creatures at the outer edges of twilight language exists alongside his interactions of sound-noise-music-feedback-mistakes played out in terms of his blobsquatchery. Carl Diehl’s [...]
The Sexy Sarcastic Grey Area
Monica Rawlins and Melissa Hovey are launching a new internet radio program called “The Grey Area,” tonight, June 4, 2008, at 8:00 PM Central/9:00 PM Eastern on Talkshoe. Art by Wetaworkshops’ Daniel Falconer of New Zealand. The name of the show is a nod to the many “grey areas” in the hunt for Bigfoot. Nothing can be proven, as of yet, and no one is an expert; it’s all grey, says Melissa Hovey. Click on this link for the show’s website. The show’s description proclaims: Straight forward in your face commentary [is shared] about the issues surrounding Bigfoot Research and [...]
Blogsquatching: Interface and Malfunction
Carl Diehl’s Metaphortean Space nicely adds a shiny chrome, intellectually-friendly frame around his insights into “blogsquatching”: An interface is typically designed to make the new domain easier for a “user” to comprehend. When this remediation works, the user is fairly oblivious to the crossing-over that is going on. On the contrary, malfunction typically calls attention to the collision of worlds, maintaining itself as burden on presumed purposes. This sort of dissonance might seem to complicate the credibility of such a thing as “the interface of malfunction.” If there is hesitation…so be it. An experiential and interpretative encounter with this mechanism [...]
Editorial: Bushnell, Wake Up!
Will anyone be killed in the woods? Someone has got to ask the hard question about the $1,000,000 Sasquatch challenge. The Bushnell’s $1,000,000 Sasquatch Photo Challenge may be creative, a great piece of publicity for trail cameras, and gain some potentially intriguing photos. But at what cost? Obviously, the company took the hoaxsters into consideration with this “Bonus Category” add-on in their contest: For all you jokers out there – we’re giving away an additional Bushnell Trail Scout Pro camera for your best attempt to cheat Bushnell out of their $1,000,000 prize. So go grab your gorilla suit and head [...]
Bushnell Rules: $1,000,000 Sasquatch Photo Challenge
Bushnell has published their rules and press release: Your Chance To Win Gear (and a Million Bucks) By Sending Us Your Trail Cam Photos! We’re not saying we believe in Sasquatch, but if anyone’s ever going to capture an image of one, we’re guessing it’ll be a hunter with a trail camera. That’s why Bushnell is offering a chance at $1,000,000 to the first person using one who snaps a verifiable photo of the beast. But just in case no Bigfoots wander your way, the editors at Field & Stream magazine are giving away great Bushnell gear for the best [...]
Coming Soon: One Million Dollars of Bigfoot Blur?
Recently, I posted about the upcoming contest, “Bushnell: $1,000,000 For Bigfoot Trail Cam Photo.” I noted the outdoors products company Bushnell will soon be offering a million dollars for “a verifiable photo of Sasquatch with your trail camera.” As was mentioned earlier, one of the most famous recent “alleged Bigfoot” photos taken with a Bushnell trail camera was the probable bear image (following) labeled by the media as a “juvenile Sasquatch”: One of the other examples of a possible “trailcam Bigfoot” that I shared was the following one, taken on April 30, 2006, in the Mt. Hood National Forest, near [...]
Is New Yeti Evidence “Potentially Explosive”?
An article entitled “Yeti ‘photo-fit’ shows ‘potentially explosive’ evidence of elusive mountain beast” by Richard Holt, in London’s The Telegraph for 2 June 2008, has noted, with some excitement, that wildlife painter Polyanna Pickering has been shown what is believed to be “a 100-year-old Yeti scalp at a remote monastery in the Himalayas.” Based upon Pickering’s viewing of the “scalp,” she has sketched (see example above) a drawing, which is being called “a ‘photo-fit’ of the Yeti based on ‘potentially explosive’ new evidence of the elusive creature’s existence.” Pickering was collecting material for her planned new exhibition, while she was [...]
Men in Cryptozoology: Daniel Perez
Daniel Perez holds a 14.5-inch cast of an alleged Bigfoot track from Bluff Creek in Northern California. May 31, 2008, is Daniel Perez’s 45th birthday. For over two decades, Perez has held a deep interest in Bigfoot, traveling far and wide, moderating conferences, and putting himself right in the middle of debates and personality conflicts. Daniel Perez is a people person. He is as well known for seeking in-depth personal information about the pursuers of hairy unknown hominodis as he is for gathering long-forgotten facts about Bigfoot. Perez is known to many as the “Jerry Springer” of Bigfootry for the [...]
