Here is a little more news to add to what I said earlier about Keel’s health. Keel’s fictional alter-ego Kolchak makes an appearance (interesting timing that), Skinner pops in on Keel, and a winged spirit coincidentally turns up. Beware of the ides of Mothman, November 15, 2006, forty years back to the future. John A. Keel during the 1970s, in the midst of writing about Mothman. Darren McGavin in the 1970s as "Carl Kolchak". Is he searching the skies for a winged weirdie? As I mentioned when Darren McGavin died at the age of 83 on February 25, 2006, it [...]
Keel News Now & Mothman 40 Years Ago
Today is the symbolic 40th anniversary of the beginning of the modern era of Mothman sightings. On this date, I am happy to pass along the news (from Doug Skinner) that John A. Keel, 76, uncomfortable but very much alive, has been released from the rehab facility to his home. My very best wishes to Keel for a speedy recovery. Four decades ago, Keel did not know his life was going to take him down this road to Mothman. Intriguingly in 1966, a new book of his, The Fickle Finger of Fate, had just been published. Events were unfolding in [...]
My Comic Life
My sinister dark side (above) is given some cartoon life, circa 2000, by an unknown artist on Fox TV’s “Freaky Links” production team (who had just become famous for their Blair Witch Horror). It is weird to see yourself through others’ eyes and realize the vision can be so similar, or not, among different artists. I’ve been on television, my photograph is not rare, and yet, here’s how artists, years apart, “see me.” In 2004, racing through the pages of Swamp Thing #7 and #8, I was depicted as “Coleman Wadsworth,” cryptozoologist (above and directly below, running for my life [...]

Bigfoot Media Mania Continues
It is not your imagination. Bigfoot news is all over the map. New sightings and stories are popping up about them. Old cases discussed in recent newspaper items are being published about 1970s’ Illinois reports and Missouri flaps. Exhibition news is coming out of Kansas City, and plans for Jefferson, Texas, Bigfoot museum continues onward. A Skunk Ape is allegedly photographed in Florida, maybe a “chimpanzee” one too (above), and now debates are getting new fire under them. The pot is heating up in Malaysia again. Yowies now come into play too. Then, of course, there’s that Idaho professor friend [...]
Catholic Left Attacks Cryptozoology
Misunderstandings come on the Right from the creationists, and now comes the subtle assaults from Roman Catholics on the Left. A blog which calls itself a “progressive Catholic site,” Catholic Sensibility attacks the new Cryptozoology exhibition in Missouri by noting that “Sunday’s Kansas City Star reports on an art exhibit that will raise eyebrows.” So much for any open-mindedness among the Catholic progressives. First it was the creationists and now it is the Catholic progressives that seem ready to assault cryptozoology. Is this evidence that cryptozoology really occupies the excluded middle and is surely damned, as per the Fortean “damned,” [...]
New Review of CZ in KC
A new review of the Kansas City cryptozoology exhibit was published today, Sunday, November 12, 2006, in the Kansas City Star. Please find it here.
11/11 Winged Weirdies
Eleven years ago on the eleventh day of the eleventh month… November 11, 1995, Zacapa, Guatemala – During a spate of bizarre animal killings in the area, Alicia Fajardo encountered a strange winged creature on her property at around one o’clock in the morning. She described it as about four feet tall, with large bat-like wings, huge oval-shaped eyes, and a large mouth with huge protruding fangs. It was covered with dark hair and had a tail and claw-like feet. The creature flew away in an upward spiral emitting a strange humming sound. (Source: Albert S. Rosales, Humanoid Contact Database [...]
YouTube Johor
People might wish to view YouTube’s Malaysian Bigfoot video, which is an extract from Jonathan Kent’s BBC report on the subject. The drawings of what the sighted Johor Bigfoot looked like, have a bulky appearance to them, and are worth the viewing alone. There is also footage of Vincent Chow (above) on the YouTube clip. Kent shows footprints discovered along a creek too. My thanks to the anonymous Cryptomundo contributor for pointing to this.
KC’s Kids CZ Book List
Looking for some suggestions for your holiday gift-giving to add to the book shelves of cryptozoologists-in-training? Trying to come up with colorful presents for those stockings? Here’s some book ideas that are being put out there for kids who are visiting the activities and the current Missouri home of the traveling exhibition that left Bates College only a few weeks ago. The Kansas City Library’s children’s services are recommending various kid-friendly books to go with the new exhibition at the H & R Artspace, the show that is entitled “Cryptozoology: Out of Time Place Scale.” One section of the traveling [...]
