Living Dinosaurs

Stegosaur in Cambodia?

What real evidence exists for dinosaurs having survived into more contemporary times? What are we to make of the carving of a Stegosaur (Stegosaur stenops) on an ancient Cambodian temple at Angkor Wat? Click image for full-size version This carving is now being shown to tourists, proclaiming it is a dinosaur. Such a situation, thusfar, has only caused a few comments online, at such locations as the Unexplained Earth webpage last summer, as well as other sites. But all this appears to be changing, with more and more attention to this item. For example, there is new talk of this [...]

Mokele-mbembe Expedition Update

Cryptomundo CryptoZoo News Exclusive The exploratory Milt Marcy Mokele-mbembe Expedition has returned. The trek to the Cameroon was made in preparation for a longer, full-scale effort in search of Mokele-mbembe, at the beginning of 2007. Drawings of Mokele-mbembe by Bill Rebsamen, used with permission. Here’s Bill Gibbons’ first report from the group just returned from Africa: Milt Marcy is in good shape given all the travel time and tough conditions (the insect problem was awful and his feet are swollen up from all the bites). But he sounded encouraged and in good spirits. He took a boat with him (11ft [...]

Breaking News: Mokele-mbembe Sighted

Exclusive to Cryptomundo There’s some exciting news from the Milt Marcy Expedition, now in Africa, in pursuit of the Mokele-mbembe. Word via Bill Gibbons is that Milt Marcy just emailed from Cameroon. The expedition travelled far up the Dja River and spoke to witnesses that had observed a Mokele-mbembe only two days before. Paul Ohlin, who replaced Pastor Gene Thomas in 1992 in the northern Congo, saw a Mokele-mbembe only three weeks ago! Mokele-mbembe art courtesy of Bill Rebsamen. Click on image for a larger view. The brief dispatch ended with a promise, by the end of this week, of [...]

Emela-Ntouka: Africa’s Killer of Elephants

Cryptomundo Exclusive The Emela-ntouka has been an unknown animal of some confusion in Africa. A few chroniclers have felt it was merely another named cryptid representing the sightings of the Mokele-mbembe. But as revealed by an image seen here for the first time, it appears to be a beast unlike the saurapod-like Mokele-mbembe. Click on image for larger size Copyright: Michel Ballot – Mokélé – Mbembé CAMEROUN 2004 On page 219 of one of my recent field guides, written with Patrick Huyghe, we noted, among several different kinds of alleged “dinosaurs” in Africa, “one animal is called by locals the [...]

Four Mokele-mbembe Related Deaths

We aren’t talking curse yet, but there have been four Mokele-related deaths, not three as earlier noted, for 2005. The Mokele-mbembe-involved individuals, who have died in 2005, are: Pastor Phil Anderton, 48, who was a missionary for 15 years in the Cameroons among the Baku pygmies, died in Kansas City, of a brain tumor, on August 24, 2005. Anderton assisted several of the Bill Gibbons-John Kirk-Scott Norman expeditions in the Cameroons. Anderton tribute. J. Richard Greenwell, 63, cofounder of the defunct International Society of Cryptozoology (ISC), died November 1, 2005, of cancer, in Tucson, Arizona. Greenwell accompanied Roy Mackal on [...]

Mokele-mbembe News: Expedition Arrival and Another Death

The Milt Marcy Expedition, in pursuit of Mokele-mbembe, has arrived in Cameroon, and the latest word is that Milt Marcy, Peter Beach, and Rob Mullin are preparing to head into the target area. Word has also reached the greater outside world that another important figure in the search for Mokele-mbembe, Pastor Phil Anderton, 48, died unexpectedly in 2005. This brings to four (not three as previously noted here) the number of men linked to earlier Mokele-mbembe activities who all passed away last year. (See our postings on on all four here.) Missionary Phil Anderton, who along with his wife Reda, [...]

New Mokele-mbembe Expedition Departs

The latest expedition to search for the “dinosaurlike” cryptids known by African natives as mokele-mbembe has departed. Milt Marcy, Peter Beach and Rob Mullin left Portland, Oregon for Cameroon on January 10, 2006. They will be teaming up with Pierre Sima to conduct the next phase of the cryptozoological research on the Congo/Cameroon border. The Milt Marcy Expedition is the fourth such trek to Africa, with the three before this one being lead by William Gibbons. Marcy is an insurance broker (Milt Marcy Insurance) in Portland, Oregon, who has funded the last three expeditions, and will be participating in this [...]
