Halloween 2006 seems as good a time as any to publish a response to several requests I have received lately for my top ten picks in cryptids, those animals that serve as the focus of cryptozoologists. Of course, thinking outside the lines, as I always do, I had to choose thirteen. Also, I had to create two parallel lists. One is for those supported by what I see as the most credible evidence, in my opinion only. For the other group, I see this one as viewed through the public’s eye, those most popular cryptids, monsters, crypto-creatures, or whatever the [...]
Rich Dolan Comments On “Mothman”
As a comment to my review of the “Sci-Fi Investigates” program, one of the program’s four investigators, Richard Dolan, sent in a comment to my blog. I wish to bring his insights to a higher level of blog-awareness by posting it separately today. Richard M. Dolan Hello everyone, I’d like to extend my greetings to everyone and just say that I often enjoy reading the entries in here. I agree with other commentators that the absence of John Keel on this show was very unfortunate, as was the absence of Loren Coleman. I asked the producers about getting Keel on [...]
Sci-Fi’s Mothman Non-Investigation
On October 26, 2006, "Sci-fi Investigates" broadcast their "Mothman" episode. While it had a few moments that are pure entertainment and certainly funny, it had little or nothing to do with "investigating" Mothman or unexplained phenomena. The program was a forensic failure. Eyewitnesses were interviewed, sites were visited, group discussions were recorded, and more eyewitnesses were interviewed. The archival footage was interesting, but the repeating images of the collapsed bridge and created Mothman-in-flight scenes were visibly boring after their third time through. Come on, did they run out of b-roll so quickly? Skepticism and Ridicule Are Not the Same Thing [...]
That Mystery Fish Postcard
The Mystery Fish postcard, first noted here on November 29, 2005, has never been identified, as to exact location or species. New people sometimes have new ideas. (Click on image to see full size version, enhanced by shockbeton) Due to research (see below) on the type of postcard it is, there was a determination, thanks to Cryptomundo readers, that this specific item would have been produced between 1904-18. The location seems to be in the Pacific; perhaps it was taken in the Philippines. Or maybe even Florida? Someone said this might be during WWI, in the south of France, because [...]
New Maine Mystery Photos: Minot Beast
The woman in Minot, Maine, was out walking her mutt, which I will call a “mutt” instead of a “dog” for the stake of alliteration and to not overuse the word “dog.” But never mind. The animal walker saw the “thing” in the distance, and couldn’t quite believe her eyes. Thank goodness it was dead, she mumbled to herself. But amazingly, she had her camera along, and snapped some photos of the “Minot Beast” (above and below, click on them to make them larger, if you dare). With whom should she share these photos, she wondered. Ah, that crime beat [...]

Boston Rob Mariano’s involvement in the program has already been featured here, here, and here. Remember, some people were upset because the early images of him shown were without a shirt. Watch the investigators and skeptics look at maps and casts [...]
Almas Skull Sample?
Mark A. Hall alerts Cryptomundo to a new dispatch out of Russia, “Moscow Hominologist gives bone sample to the USA for investigation”. It appears to be from the skull of an alleged Almas’ relative, Khwit. Click the Richard Klyver’s Almas drawings, above, for a larger view. According to the Russian newspaper Komsomolskaja Pravda, Igor Burtsev was invited to the USA(1). There, he will deliver a bone sample of a skull to a “laboratory for the Genetics of the Neanderthals of the New York University” for analysis. Burtsev found this skull in the 70s during an excavation while he was looking [...]
Borneo’s New Mammal
On December 5 and 7, 2005, Cryptomundo scooped the mainstream media with some analytical insights of the following Borneo photographs and the probable identification of the animal in the photographs. As this has surfaced again with regard to "new mammals" discoveries, and there are so many new Cryptomundo readers, here are those first postings on this mystery animal find. What do you think this looks like? There is exciting news out of Borneo. A new red-furred animal larger than a domestic cat has reportedly been discovered on this remote island of Indonesia. On December 5, 2005, the World Wide Fund [...]
Crypto Rescue
Do something good today. Help out a member of our community get back up on his feet! This is not about me. But I empathize. Living the life of a cryptozoologist, on the edge of survival, is not easy and is no joke. I think we all have are own personal stories of struggle. People think I am joking when I talk about money problems, because people have a fantasy that if you are an author or a retired university instructor you’re rich. I’ve experienced it all personally, this life on the edge, and yet make a choice to hold [...]
New Mammal Found In Europe
The Times of London’s Science Editor Mark Henderson documents the following startling news, here from the article, in part: A new mammal species — thought to be the first discovered in Europe for more than a century — has been identified by a scientist based at the University of Durham. The grey mouse, found in Cyprus by Thomas Cucchi, has been confirmed as an entirely new species by genetic tests, overturning the widespread assumption that Europe had no mammals left to be discovered. Dr Cucchi, who is French, was working on the Mediterranean island studying mouse teeth from the Stone [...]
