Hobbit critic Professor Teuku Jacob (above) passed away last October 17, 2007, and the critic of the new hominid species who took Jacob’s place as most outspoken is now in hot water.. Saying he sees the irony in his accusations of monetary gain for fame, one of the harshest skeptics of the claims that Homo floresiensis, the Hobbit, is a new species, biological anthropologist Maciej Henneberg has been accused of financial fraud. The Australian in their August 7, 2008 edition, has science writer Leigh Dayton laying out the facts of the case. The University of Adelaide researcher who accused the [...]

Georgia Body Update
You won’t see too much from me here any longer on the alleged Bigfoot body from the Georgia gentlemen, until an actual body is produced. Following their burning of my Bigfoot! book (after it previously was apparently being used as a reference work), it became obvious it was counter-productive to report on them. But for the sake of keeping you informed, here are various so-called developments in their ongoing melodrama. They have removed from the internet all of their previous videos, and are floating a recent one around that gives these two “facts”: ~ bigfttrkrs are now associated with Tom [...]
New Dolphin Discovered?
The Australian media is in a whirlwind because allegedly the “first pictures of what has been dubbed the world’s ugliest dolphin were shown on Australian television on Thursday. The snub fin dolphin with its distinctive bulbous head was first identified three years ago off Western Australia’s remote Kimberley coast.” But, of course, photos had been published before of this dolphin. The Queensland government published one in its official 2007 bulletin on the species, an extract of which is shown below: Australian snubfin dolphin Common name: Australian snubfin dolphin Scientific name: Orcaella heinsohni Legislative name: Orcaella brevirostris Conservation status: The Australian [...]
Newly Discovered Kipunji Extinct Soon?
Found only three years ago in its tiny forest home in Tanzania, a monkey species may soon be extinct. The kipunji (Rungwecebus kipunji and also known as the Highland Mangabey) was discovered in 2005 in the Southern Highlands and Udzungwa Mountains in Tanzania. In 2006, genetic analyses revealed the species represented an entire new genus of primate — the first since 1923. “The kipunji is hanging on by the thinnest of threads,” said Tim Davenport, Tanzania country director for the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS). “We must do all we can to safeguard this extremely rare and little understood species while [...]
New Yeti Hairs and Hillary
The Yeti hair sample shows split ends. The first update to the testing of the Yeti hair sample is in, and the results are “inconclusive,” not too surprisingly. Initial results showed it had human and ape-like characteristics. Ian Redmond, a biologist and expert in ape conservation, said the hairs found in the Indian jungle resembled samples collected by the conqueror of Everest, Sir Edmund Hillary, in the 1950s. “Under the microscope, they look slightly human, slightly like an orang utang and slightly like the hairs brought back by Edmund Hillary,” Redmond told AFP. “These hairs remain an enigma. They could [...]
Stratton Thrush: A New Hybrid Bird?
Bicknell’s thrush, Catharus bicknelli. Drawing by Liza. Veery, Catharus fuscescens. Drawing by Whatbird. The Vermont Center Of Ecostudies (VCE) files a new report, which could have implications for other studies of hybrids in high-elevation bird populations: The recent discovery atop Stratton Mountain (Vermont) of an apparent hybrid of a Bicknell’s thrush and veery, two closely related species in the genus Catharus, has generated some buzz in birding circles. The bird was discovered by field biologists with the Vermont Center for Ecostudies (VCE) in the course of their long-term research on high-elevation bird populations. The first clue to this individual’s possible [...]
New Manta Ray Discovered
The newly-discovered larger, migratory manta ray (top) and the common, resident species (below) A new species of manta ray has been identified for the first time. After five years of study a marine biologist has confirmed that a larger and more elusive manta is in fact a distinct species. Until now it was thought that there was only one manta ray species. The newly-discovered species leads a different lifestyle to its smaller cousin and is migratory rather than residential. Andrea Marshall is a PhD marine biologist sponsored by the Save Our Seas Foundation (SOSF) to advance scientific knowledge of the [...]
DNA Test For Yeti Hair
Technician John Wells looks at the hairs through a microscope as Anna Nakaris, anthropolgist, and Ian Redmond, primatologist, look on. The hunt for the mysterious Yeti – otherwise known as the Abominable Snowman – has frustrated scientists for decades. Yesterday, scientists at Oxford Brookes University joined in the hunt after being given a number of hair strands taken from what is purported to be a Yeti-like creature in India. The Brookes boffins used high-powered microscopes to analyse the samples found in the West Garo jungle of the north-eastern state of Meghalaya. They compared the suspected Yeti strands to samples taken [...]
