The Maine news media are warming up their stories on the Durham “gorilla.” I’ve been contacted, asking me if I heard the rumor that a zoo released an ape in 1973, in Maine. Of course, I have not and have not been able to track down any factual basis to such a rumor. Besides, Maine doesn’t have any zoos, in general, other than seasonal ones at York and on Mt. Desert Island, and certainly none that lost or released an ape in 1973. Also, one sheriff’s deputy was tracked down by another reporter, but refused to talk to the media. [...]
Bigfoot Body on C2C
Okay, so the power was turned off in the bfters’ freezer in Georgia, they are telling us. Okay, they are being harassed. All the July fees for the bftrackers “expeditions” are being refunded. What does this all sound like to you? Is an exit scenario being developed? As I mentioned here yesterday, late last night a “Coast to Coast AM with George Noory” producer invited me to come on as their guest to discuss the Georgia Bigfoot body case and the Grassman episode of “MonsterQuest.” I was exhausted from the Royal Alberta Museum jetlag, so I respectfully declined. The program [...]
Lion Vanishes Into Misquotation Valley
Cryptozoology author Matt Bille, who found himself in the middle of a firestorm of “African lion” sightings in his hometown, was interviewed by the local media. On July 22, 2008, The Colorado Springs Gazette published an article about the Colorado Springs “lion.” In it they quoted Matt Bille. Or, should I say, misquoted him? Bille has emailed me that he “did not say the last half of the last sentence about making no rational sense.” Wildlife officials had a few things to say about the misquotations in the unfolding of this story too. Here is the article Bille sends along: [...]

Classic Bigfoot Cases
In these days of blobsquath and bad Bigfoot footage, it is often forgotten that some cases which are taken as landmark sightings use to just be “sightings in the Sasquatch file.” Take a break from the claims of a Bigfoot body and the repeating eBay auctions for a “Bigfoot hunter,” to stop for a moment to view part of this old documentary, Bigfoot: Man or Beast (1972). The film captures interviews with eyewitnesses familiar from your readings of Bigfoot material, e.g. Fred Beck and Albert Ostman. Also, you can see here early investigators Ron Olson and John Green. I think [...]
Flashback: Grover Krantz
Now and then, it is good to pause and remember those who have passed into cryptozoology history. Anthropologist and Sasquatch hunter, the “Dr.” has left the house. Grover Krantz is recalled for many things, perhaps mostly by Cryptomundo readers for his research captured in the pages of Bigfoot Sasquatch: Evidence. To me, of all the men in the field I’ve met, he may have been one of the most gentle, most down-to-earth guys searching for Bigfoot, despite an overblown public counter-reputation for being sharp, fierce, and full of ego. To know Grover, as a person, was to truly like him. [...]
On the Track With William Dranginis
Thirteen years ago, William Dranginis saw Bigfoot. Fifty grand, a van, and a camera in a log later, the quest continues. William Dranginis knows what you’re thinking, so maybe it’s best to get a few things straight right from the start. He’s not crazy, delusional, some lunatic on the fringe. For the most part, he’s your average suburban family man. Lives on a quiet street in Manassas. Has a great wife and two daughters; just became a grandfather. Has a good job designing surveillance equipment for the Windermere Group, an Annapolis-based technology firm that does contract work for the government. [...]
New BC Sasquatch Sighting
Sasquatch hunter Bill Miller (left) explains the characteristics of Big Foot as fellow hunter Tom Steenburg looks on. Photography by Jenna Hauck. Progress A seven-foot Sasquatch has been spotted near Chilliwack, a witness says. And two local Sasquatch hunters are convinced the sighting, reported last month [June 2008] on Mount Cheam, is the real deal. “This was a legitimate sighting, not a bear, not a deer or anything else,” said Bill Miller, a full-time Sasquatch hunter who lives in Harrison Hot Springs. The Sasquatch was sighted on June 19 at 2 a.m. when a husband and wife were travelling down [...]
Weird Travels’ Cryptozoo DVDs
Get those holiday shopping list started. Here comes another wave of DVD releases in the Northern Hemisphere in the realm of cryptozoology programs. These latest are for September 2008. One of the Weird Travels episodes was filmed with the Texas Bigfoot researchers and include Craig Woolheater and Monica Rawlins getting screen time. The film crew was with members of Craig’s research group during his field operation, as well as spending time with Craig in Jefferson, Texas, and at Caddo Lake. The shooting also included a day trip to Fouke, Arkansas, to check into the local legend of the Fouke Monster. [...]
New Black Panther Sighting: Maine
This is the look of the wooded areas along Rt. 2, near Island Falls, Maine. I’m now in northern Maine, and I’ve learned there’s been a new Mystery Cat sighting from up this way. An Island Falls restaurant owner said that he and his wife saw a panther cross the road in front of them, coming out from a field in an area locally called Barker Ridge, between Island Falls and Sherman, onto Rt. 2. The photograph above shows the area going up to May Mountain, which is northeast of the sighting area. May Mt overlooks Mattawamkeag Lake, which is [...]
