Once is happenstance. Twice is coincidence. Three times is enemy action. – from Goldfinger by Ian Fleming, who achieved the rank of Commander in British Naval Intelligence. Rumors are sweeping throughout Kashmir of a mystery millionaire who will pay a high bounty on the capture of giant owls. Now we hear that some are saying this is just a cover story for the CIA. That this news is related to the hunt for bin Laden. Does this sound like something from the covert intelligence days of millionaire Tom Slick in that part of the world? Why are two other "giant [...]
Art Deco Adventures: Patagonian Plesiosaurus
Click on image for a full size pdf version of the April 9, 1922, Lima, Ohio, graphic. Today, the lake monster reported in Lago (English: Lake) Nahuel Huapi in the northern Patagonia region between the provinces of Río Negro and Neuquén, in Argentina, near the border with Chile, is called “Nahuelito.” The huge lake itself, which is about 1350 feet deep, covers over 300 square miles at the base of the Patagonian mountains, a perfect site for a watery cryptid, variously described as a giant serpent or a huge hump. Or a prehistoric dinosaur? Forget about Africa’s Mokele-mbembe hunts in [...]
Top Twelve Black Bobcat Hot Spots
UPDATED: January 14, 2007. Photograph of a cryptid black felid taken late in 2005 in Florida, by a Georgia professor (credit Ben Willis) that probably is a melanistic bobcat (Lynx rufus floridianus). Based on one of yesterday’s melanistic bobcat blog comments, here are my promised suggestions for the hot spots to go observe these black felids. Top Twelve Locations To See Black Bobcats 1-10. South Florida. If there’s one place that has produced the most melanistic bobcats, it would be this south central east Florida coast county that lies next to the Okeechobee Swamp region, specifically, Martin County, Florida. Ten [...]
Sunday Comics: Loren Coleman, Cryptid Hunter
Peter Loh has penned a new image (above), and I feel honored to be placed under his own special cryptocartoonist’s magnifying glass, once again. In “My Comic Life,” I overviewed various artists’ past graphic attempts to capture me, including the following by Loh: That Loren, the fedora-wearing Loren, was created by Loh for Scott Marlowe’s Crypto-Man comic series. Goofy in the Pine Tree State (no telling which one is Goofy) is one of Peter Loh’s more subtle but funny renderings, which touched close to home, as this is a visual commentary on the 2006 Maine Mutant investigation. New Kids’ Books on Cryptids
There is a new series of children’s books on cryptozoology for the New Year. Rosen Publishing has walked this way before. This New York City-based publisher produced a series of “Secret Files” children’s books on cryptids in 2002. It has now followed with their “Graphic Mysteries” 48-pages-long books for 2006 and 2007. The 2002 titles, which remain in print, are: Yeti: The Abominable Snowman by Laura Anne Gilman (2002); Bigfoot by Greg Cox (2002); and The Loch Ness Monster by Martin Delrio (2002). In 2006, the following appeared: Bigfoot and Other Strange Beasts by Rob Shone and Nick Spender (2006), [...]
Searching For the Ropen in New Guinea: “Destination Truth” Makes Contact From Rainforest
I have heard from Neil Mandt (above), the executive producer for "Destination Truth," the new series that will be appearing on the Sci Fi Channel this spring. He’s been corresponding with me for some months now, and decided to give Cryptomundo an exclusive on what he and his crew are up to right now. One location the series explored was Johor (above) to investigate reports of the Malaysian Bigfoot. Another they are going to deal with is Mongolia. Incredibly, thanks to modern technology, Neil emailed me yesterday – from the rainforest – to give me an update and exclusive on [...]
Lake Merritt Monster
Ginny Prior, The Town Crier of California’s Contra Costa Times talks in her column of January 12, 2007, about the "Beast [that] dwells in [the] murky waters of Lake Merritt." She writes: I’ve always suspected something was lurking, just below the murky green surface. Now it’s been confirmed — Oakland’s Lake Merritt has a monster. Like Scotland’s Loch Ness and Lake Champlain’s Champ, this creature eludes all but the most vigilant observers. Richard Bailey, the resident expert, has seen the great head of the beast — with its glowing red eyes and spiked horns. "It’s got six or seven humps [...]

The Hollywood Reporter is spreading the news that “Destination Truth” on the Sci Fi Channel is a go for April 2007. Relict Skull Results: Khwit and Relative?
There’s news out of German cryptozoology site about new DNA results on the skull of Khwit (shown above) and another new find. In August, 2006, the Russian newspaper Komsomol’skaja Pravda (1) reported on the examination of a skull assumed to be from a “relic hominoid” from Abkazia. Most have talked about their relationship to the Almasty mystery. Igor Bourtsev, who found the skull, was invited to visit the USA for its analysis. (2) Click on the Khwit news item for a full-sizer view of the skull. Bourtsev wrote in the Mugamir Russian website that he was in New York from [...]

Two incidents in one week. Two scorpions on two separate planes. The news is coming in so rapidly this week, I shared this one directly with Chad Arment’s Strange Ark, a good site for you to know about anyway. Read more fully about the scorpions on the planes, here.
