What does sometimes Fate Magazine skeptic Robert A. Goerman (pictured below) have against Cryptomundo and the readers of the blog here? What is with his name-calling our blog “Crypto-Tattler” and his insults to readers who have comments on new mystery photographs? We are taken aback by Goerman’s scathing posting on the Fate Magazine blog, in which he blasts Cryptomundo. Taken to task for our use of words, and for sharing the Omaha backyard and the Mt. Hood cam photographs, in the Cryptomundo fashion of asking readers to assist in identifying them, seems too much for Goerman. My former Mothman-research colleague, [...]
Storsie To Resurface
The forthcoming Storsjoyran Great Lake Festival on July 27-29, 2006, will have the local “president” Ewert Ljusberg of Jämtland making his annual speech to the region, again marked by a new imaginative and spectacular entrance. According to John Gammon’s June 17, 2006, Pollstar article, the idea is to top last year’s stunt: In 1996 [Ewert Ljusberg] rode in on a seven-ton elephant, which was making a guest appearance while en route from a Spanish to a Swedish circus, but he topped that in ’99, when he tried to float down in a huge air balloon. He missed the main 20,000-capacity [...]
Karl Pflock’s Official Obituary
When it was learned that Karl Pflock died recently, Cryptomundo noted his passing due to the fact he had, now and then, skeptically also tackled a few cryptozoological topics. I had corresponded with Karl during his life, and I wanted to note his departure from the scene. I have since, again, heard from his widow, who sends a formal obituary to be published here, so exacting details can be shared properly. We express our sympathies to Karl’s family, once again. Mary Martinek emails along the following: Karl Tomlinson Pflock 06 January 1943 — 05 June 2006 PFLOCK — Karl T. [...]
Lost In The Woods: BFRO
John Marshall, who is the Daily Breeze / asap’s sports writer based in Denver, trekked along with a recent BFRO excursion or “expedition” in Oregon. From Wednesday, June 14, through Friday, June 16, he filed news stories of his experiences with the asap. Marshall also snapped photographs, including the above photo of Matt Moneymaker calling out a Bigfoot. The story was picked up individually by various newspapers, such as in "Surviving in Bigfoot’s backyard" on Friday, June 16, 2005. To read all three parts of Marshall’s field reports, however, with audio and video, please click here. It all begins, for [...]
Living Fossil Caught on Video
David Redfield’s journey to Southeast Asia leads to live specimens of the Laotian rock rat TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — The first images of a live specimen of a small, furry animal once believed to have gone extinct more than 11 million years ago have been captured during a Southeast Asian expedition led by a retired Florida State University researcher. The remarkable video and photos shot by David Redfield, a professor emeritus of FSU’s science education faculty, and Thai wildlife biologist Uthai Treesucon are being hailed as historic images documenting a true “living fossil,” the Laotian rock rat. The Laotian rock rat [...]
Amazing Nebraska Cryptid Photo
A remarkable photographic image has been snapped on the morning of June 13, 2006, in a woman’s backyard in the Midwestern state of Nebraska. KETV-7 in Omaha broadcast the picture on June 14, and it appears to be an animal unlike any most people have seen locally. In the short dispatch, the Nebraska news staff report that: Mary Ann Carta lives near 138th and Hamilton streets, and she took some pictures of the animal that she saw. She said it could be a bobcat, but it has her scared about taking her morning walk or allowing her grandchildren to play [...]
Backstory on Bigfoot Hand
The background story to the "Hand of Bigfoot" involves Tom Biscardi’s obtaining of the hand on April 19th, 2006, in a Pocatello meeting with a self-described “true world adventurer.” Looking like a sideshow gaff, a created work, it is generating a lot of interest, not because it is proof of Bigfoot, but because it appears to be further evidence of Tom Biscardi’s Las Vegas promotional origins. The hand Biscardi has came from the longtime but only recently covertly active Sasquatch investigator Don Monroe, who some say is in his 50s, while others say, his 70s. Monroe reportedly has had this [...]
Hand of Bigfoot
Looks like a sideshow or carnival manufactured gaff to me, but this is Mr. Tom "I’ve got a captured Bigfoot" Biscardi’s "Hand of Bigfoot." See Craig’s posting here on Cryptomundo for more details. What do you think? ++++++++++++++++++ For an update, click on the "Backstory on the Bigfoot Hand."
Bates Opens Cryptozoology Exhibition
The International Cryptozoology Museum (ICM) is sharing its contents through the end of 2006. Over 100 of some of the most significant large and small items from the ICM’s collection are included in my specific room at the new Bates College exhibition, “Cryptozoology: Out of Time Place Scale.” Then, in October, the objects from that gathering and the other artists’ collections move to Kansas City. The entire traveling exhibition will be there through January 2007. Some of the items from the International Cryptozoology Museum’s collection, contained in my installation at Bates, probably will include: – 8 ft-tall, 500 pound “Crookston [...]
Thylacine Sightings Near Portland
There is a Portland on the other side of the world from mine in Maine that is experiencing a series of Thylacine or Tasmanian Tiger sightings. As reported in the Australian media today, Portland, Victoria, Australia, has been the site of at least four sightings in the last three months. Reporter Sarah Scopelianos writes: The last sighting was in early May by a Portland resident, Anthony Ersello, who said yesterday he saw the strange dog-like animal sitting in the middle of the Princes Highway on the outskirts of town near the Shell service station. "I’d been walking home from a [...]
