Beast of Bray Road Movie Not a Crypto-Study No Crypto-angle in Beast of Bray Road Movie on Sci Fi Channel on Saturday, July 15, 2006, at 9 PM EDT A Guest Blog by Linda Godfrey Well, it isn’t the worst slasher/monster movie ever made, but that is about all I think this movie boasting it is "based on a true story" could claim for itself. A cryptozoological study, it is not. And please let me make it clear again, I had absolutely nothing to do with it, other than inadvertently providing them an already publicized title to use without permission [...]
Jersey Devil + 40
Over at TV Squad on July 9th, Anna Johns writes of her interest in The X-Files season one’s episode "The Jersey Devil." She reminded me that an incident that happened 40 years ago, a significant close encounter of the Jersey Devil-Bigfoot kind, is still remembered, in a roundabout way, via the popular television series and its fans. Johns notes: …that season one of The X-Files is phenomenal. I had forgotten how many terrific episodes were packed into the first season. Chris Carter really seemed to have this show down solid right out of the gate. He set up the series [...]
The Ultimate Bigfoot DVD Couch Potato List
I was asked earlier this week, what Bigfoot non-fiction films would I recommend? As the extremely well-educated adult who understood his own learning style honestly noted: “I am not a very fast reader. Please direct me to anything I can purchase and view on DVD.” Okay, basically, that’s a fair request, as some people are visual learners and much can be said for good documentaries as teaching tools. I taught a documentary course for almost 15 years. What I discovered was that it was worthwhile for some students to learn about topics through the study of moving images beyond what [...]
Remembering Grover
Grover Krantz is remembered for many things, perhaps mostly by Cryptomundo readers for his research captured in the pages of Bigfoot Sasquatch: Evidence. To me, of all the guys I’ve met, he may have been one of the sweetest, most down-to-earth men searching for Bigfoot, despite an overblown counter-reputation for being sharp and fierce. To know Grover, as a person, was to truly like him. Grover Krantz, during the 1970s. Through face-to-face encounters, phone calls, and emails, Grover and I kept in contact for many years. I tried to capture his life in various places, such as the brief biographical [...]
Pick Johor Pix Panel
Patience is a virtue. Patience and passion are two important components of cryptozoology research, as I have often mentioned, as per Bernard Heuvelmans. Speculations on the Johor Hominid have reached new lows and highs, from muddled discussions of “reverse evolution” to the creation of a new Peter Loh sketch (above) based on all the information available to a new website. But the time has come for a challenge to those saying they have more evidence. Based on a recent turn of events in the Johor Hominid or Malaysian Bigfoot situation, there are new reasons for people to feel frustrated and [...]
New Name Nominee: Johor Hominid
Environmentalist Vincent Chow and palaeoanthropologist Sean Ang, who are both involved in researching the question of unknown hairy hominoids in Malaysia, have created a website to focus their pursuit. The researchers have also, through the mere need to purchase a domain name, coined a phrase for their local Malaysian Bigfoot, capturing the notion they are elusive giant bipeds from a certain area, by terming them, specifically, "Johor Hominid." According to the New Straits Times, the website promotes the fact that the Johor Hominid phenomenon is "probably the most significant and mind-shattering discovery in anthropology." Vincent Chow, above, from an earlier [...]
Johor Bigfoot: Reverse Evolved Homo erectus?
Here’s the latest news from Malaysia: Reverse evolution theory about the Johor Bigfoot 30 Jun 2006 JOHOR BARU: The Johor Bigfoot could be a Homo erectus that had undergone “reverse evolution”. Homo erectus (“upright man”) is a hominid species that is believed to be an ancestor of modern humans. It is a large-brained species which lived from approximately two million to around 400,000 years ago. Sean Ang, a scientist from Kuala Lumpur who had analysed the prehistoric Perak Man excavated by Universiti Sains Malaysia in 1994, said based on evidence compiled about the creature by biodiversity researcher Vincent Chow, he [...]
Blobsquatch Babel
This is a classic Blobsquatch image, one captured from the Bobby Clarke video taken in Manitoba. A reader, Sharon Hill, reminds me that this word used by so many so casually today, “Blobsquatch,” happens to be “one of those great descriptive words made popular via the Internet.” But what is the exact meaning, if there is such a thing, for “Blobsquatch”? And when did the word first appear? Are some photographs that some people are calling Blobsquatch images really not? The Lake Worth Monster’s 1969 photograph may actually be one of the clearer Blobsquatch photographs out there. Or is it [...]
Sasquatch Hunters’ Lead Dies
Entertainment Insiders announced that actor Matt Lattimore, 45, has died of undisclosed causes on June 4, 2006. He was born March 24, 1961, in Long Beach, California, and lived and worked in California most of his life. The star of over 25 television commercials, Lattimore also acted in five motion pictures, including the lead role of Roger Gordon in Sasquatch Hunters (2005) and as a major in Hunter’s Moon (2006). The original title for Sasquatch Hunters was Primeval. The plot involves the adventures of forest rangers and scientists who go on an archaeological dig for fossils in a Bigfoot burial [...]
Animal X Goes Euro
Remember Animal X (not to be confused with the BBC’s X-Creatures and their badly made up red Patterson-Gimlin footage “lookalike”)? The series included a visit with your Cryptomundo host at my museum to tape parts of the “Winged Creatures” and other cryptid segments. WorldScreen is announcing on June 26, 2006, that TV2 Norway, Plante in France, and Ceska, Spektrum and Cyfra+ in Eastern Europe have all acquired the ten part cryptozoology series, Animal X: The Natural Mystery Unit. They report that "originally commissioned by Animal Planet in the U.S., the $2.5 million series from Australia’s Storyteller Media Group concerns a [...]
