How long have people been talking about Dryopithecus as having some bearing on reports of unknown hominoids, those that appear to be more anthropoid than hominid? For over fifty years, it turns out. Personally, I’ve promoted them since the 1960s (see most recently Bigfoot!, pages 165-166) and I have talked of dryopithecines and their possible dissemination by slave ships for decades. My friends and associates have commented on my and others’ thoughts about this fossil candidate. In the wake of a photograph of what appears to be an ape, perhaps even a cryptid one, in Florida, discussion has occurred here [...]
Abductions by Modern Neandertals?
Neandertals left their tracks, above, behind. Have they interacted with modern humans in contemporary times, and left behind much more? Is there a record of human beings being abducted by hairy unknown hominids, perhaps even Neandertals in Europe? The reported sleeping position of the Ksy-gyik. Did it sleep with humans? Here is a list of a few possible kidnapping incidents, none of them before published in English, shared by Norwegian cryptozoologist Erik Knatterud: Spain, Sienra. Probably about 800 years ago. Baby abduction. An infant boy was stolen from his nanny, but a swift rescue party managed to find the boy [...]
Abominable Snowman’s Writer Dies
One of the most influential television writers of the 20th century and the writer of one of the most important motion pictures in Yeti cryptofiction has died. Earlier this year, I noted that director Val Guest died on May 10, 2006, in California. Now, Nigel has passed away. That would be Nigel Kneale, here pictured from the 1950s. At the Hammer Film’s site, in a remembrance there, writer Robert Simpson shares the sad news: Tom Kneale (better known as Nigel Kneale) died on Sunday 29 October 2006 aged 84. To many he was the godfather of television science fiction, a [...]

Loren Coleman’s Top Cryptids
Halloween 2006 seems as good a time as any to publish a response to several requests I have received lately for my top ten picks in cryptids, those animals that serve as the focus of cryptozoologists. Of course, thinking outside the lines, as I always do, I had to choose thirteen. Also, I had to create two parallel lists. One is for those supported by what I see as the most credible evidence, in my opinion only. For the other group, I see this one as viewed through the public’s eye, those most popular cryptids, monsters, crypto-creatures, or whatever the [...]
Missouri Monster Events

The collection – from art from artists from around the world to nonfiction evidence & artifacts from my cryptozoology museum – opens in Missouri with a mini-symposium: A Cryptozoology Roundtable Conversation Date: October 26, 2006 Time: 7:00 pm Central Location: Epperson Auditorium, 4415 Warwick Blvd., Kansas City, Missouri Description: On the eve of the exhibition opening of “Cryptozoology: [...]
California Cryptozoic
What: “CALIFORNIA CRYPTOZOIC” When: October 28 – November 25, 2006 Opening Saturday October 28, 9pm – Partytime Who: Artist Megan Whitmarsh (visit her site for her little Yeti film) Where: October, 28 2006 at the New Image Art Gallery, 7908 Santa Monica Blvd., West Hollywood, CA 90046 How Much: Free “Yeti does Disco” with bling bling or goes Star Wars, well, is sort of weird, I’d say. Or very normal, nowadays. After all, if Wikipedia has an entry on “bling bling” originating from Jamacian patois and noting the contradictory reality that the “bling bling diamonds” are probably conflict diamonds, obtained [...]
Yeti Jacket
Hey, I want one of those as a gift for the holidays, don’t you? David Pescovitz mentions a great new piece of cryptozoology outerwear to add to anyone’s wish list. David writes at Boing Boing: This amazing track jacket embroidered with Tim Biskup’s Yeti illustration is part of his Gama-Go collection for Fall. It’s $78 and I am so deeply saddened that it doesn’t come in XXL to fit my Sasquatch frame. Thank goodness the Gama-Go collection has a soft but durable, fieldworthy but comfortably-sized X-L with good lines to fit me! (My apologies to anyone that didn’t see that [...]
Arcturus Cryptozoology Books
Looking for a rare Keel title? A paperback from the 1970s demonstrating that era’s view of Bigfoot? An oldie but a goodie? Trying to pick up a scarce cryptozoology book? Bob Girard has been selling used books for years, and now does it from Port St. Lucie, Florida. If you want to keep the good books in this world, you have to support those booksellers that aren’t afraid to sell them. Therefore, we have to support, for example, Arcturus Books. Here’s a sample below of items you can email him about, and see if he still has it in stock. [...]
