I was gone most of yesterday, on the road, and returned very late last night. Yes, I don’t live here in front of this screen. I came back to find an email inbox filled with the strangest messages. Two topics with similar themes popped out. First, one group was about someone in the field who had put a “bounty” on me despite the fact that what this person was disturbed about had nothing to do with me, wasn’t posted by me, and the foundation for any concern was not coming from me. But since it was here on Cryptomundo, I [...]
Mystery Moa Photo
A Moa? Please note the darker front part of the body is in shadow and the rear portion – with apparent feathers visible – is to the right, in sunlight. Is the above a photograph of a living Moa? I interviewed the credible eyewitness and photographer, a former member of the British Army’s elite Special Air Service (SAS). Here’s the backstory. In 1958, cryptozoologist Bernard Heuvelmans entitled a chapter of his On the Track of Unknown Animals, “The Moa, a Fossil That May Still Thrive.” Moas, both medium-sized and giant forms, have been reported periodically in New Zealand since their [...]
Cryptids on Fate
Steve Klein’s complete gallery of Fate Magazine covers can be found here. This all-encompassing collection of Fate covers has many that feature Bigfoot, Nessie, Yeti, and other cryptozoological subjects, including a Skunk Ape, apparently. Klein’s work (and our notice of it) continues the look – visually and graphically – at the popular cultural impact of Fate, which was recently noted by Mark Frauenfelder at Boing Boing. Needless to say, many of these covers are cryptozoological in nature, but most are not.
5th Anniversary: Bigfoot Loses Krantz
It’s only been five years, but it seems like yesterday and yet long ago. As Valentine’s Day comes rushing closer in 2007, a moment to recall Grover, the Ph. D. of Sasquatch…from my overview I wrote soon after he passed away in 2002. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Grover S. Krantz, an anthropologist who was never afraid to take the unpopular academic position that the primates which he called Sasquatch (he thought “Bigfoot” was not scholarly) actually exist, died peacefully, on the morning February 14, 2002, in his Port Angeles, Washington State home. As the modern era’s first academically-affiliated physical anthropologist to actively involve [...]
Bigfoot’s Beckjord Has Cancer
Bigfoot badboy Jon-Erik Beckjord has released a statement that he has cancer. In conjunction with this release of information, Beckjord says he is trying to sell, once again, his copy of the Patterson-Gimlin footage of a Bigfoot at Bluff Creek, California, taken on October 20, 1967. The footage is available on most good documentaries about Bigfoot, but, as Beckjord has noted in his past attempts to sell it on eBay for one million dollars ($1,000,000), he feels his copy is unique. How he obtained that copy is not known and not stated. Beckjord, states for the first time, as far [...]
“Monster Shark” Off Sydney
Breaking News – Some reports say a 15 ft long shark is patrolling off Sydney. I’ve not heard any shouts of “Megalodon” or “Meg” (which I hear will be a movie in 2008) but something big is being seen…. Here’s a news story from “tomorrow” – yes, it is already February 8th there: It was like a scene out of Jaws, as swimmers rushed from the ocean after sightings of a “monster” shark. The drama happened yesterday morning [Wednesday, February 7, 2007] at Sydney’s La Perouse beach, just minutes before another alert just a few kilometres away at Bondi. The [...]
Byrne: Marx/Biscardi Bigfoot Photo Hoax
Has anyone noticed that Tom Biscardi is still using the Ivan Marx film clips discredited by Peter Byrne in 1971? Perhaps people have failed to even look at the frames from the 1970s’ films? Or read their history? The notorious alleged 1970s Bigfoot trickster and Ivan Marx associate, who attempted to pull off the “send in your money and see the Bigfoot I’ve captured” trickery on Coast to Coast AM with George Noory, may be in a neighborhood near you. Old news, right? Rapidly having departed Happy Valley, California, and disassociated from past associates in Las Vegas, Tom Biscardi has [...]
Extinct SE Asia Vulture Found
The only known colony in Southeast Asia of slender-billed vultures (Gyps tenuirostrishas) – shown above – have been discovered in Cambodia, along with other endangered bird species. The vulture colony was discovered in January 2007, in the rainforests east of the Mekong River in Cambodia’s Stung Treng Province, according to Michael Casey’s Associated Press Bangkok-based dispatch for February 7, 2007. The slender-billed vultures were believed extinct throughout Southeast Asia, including Thailand and Cambodia, and only having been found in northern India recently. Some call it the world’s rarest vulture. We discovered the nests on top of a hill where two [...]
Loch Ness Monster Video, Not Bigfoot?
Bigfoot, Bigfoot, Bigfoot. I’m so tired of blobsquatch videos, aren’t you? Sasquatch, Sasquatch, Sasquatch. Nessie, Nessie, Nessie. Loch Ness Monster, Loch Ness Monster. Ah, finally good footage, right? I’m forced to write a blogsquatch, the sad condition of blogging that appears to be something it really isn’t – seemingly cryptozoological but it only vaguely appears that way from a distance. Instead, closer up, it is more blogging on exposing a fake, I’m afraid. Unfortunately, the above video has been making the rounds of emails because it has been posted on the Bigfoot of video upload sites, YouTube. Is it a [...]
Once In A Blue Moa
Did a young girl from a pioneering Fiordland family have the last human encounter with a moa? It has gone down in history as one of the most puzzling rare-bird sightings and it happened in the remote south-west corner of New Zealand. What was the big blue bird that pioneer Alice McKenzie saw at Martins Bay, 30km north of Milford Sound, in 1880? Experts are still debating nearly 130 years later. Did a species of moa, such as the little bush moa, survive human predation and live on in the Fiordland wilderness 400 years after they were thought to be [...]
