Living Fossil Recovers In Arizona
Few realize that the pronghorn (Antilocapra americana) is a Pleistocene survivor, a relict from the Ice Ages. It is a unique species and the only surviving member of the family Antilocapridae. The pronghorn was discovered by the Lewis and Clark Expedition, in what today is South Dakota. For one small population, the endangered subspecies Sonoran pronghorn (Antilocapra americana sonoriensis), occurring only in Arizona and Mexico, their dying population went from almost 140 animals to 21 pronghorns during the drought of 2002. This photographic update and comparison on the recent “New Thunderbird Photos” posting shows a possible species that may or may not explain the Indian example. You be the judge. Regarding the “Thunderbird” photograph (above) taken in Kerala, India, French cryptozoology student Fabrice Tortey suggests that although “size evaluation in the sky without point of reference is rather tricky, I think the birds are probably black kites (Milvus migrans govinda). Breaking News From Reuters: A new blue-and-green-throated hummingbird species has been discovered in a cloud forest in Colombia, and already needs protection from human encroachment, the experts who found the bird said on Sunday.
