Look, to be honest, I love field guides. I don’t merely have a shelf of field guides. I literally have a bookcase full of them, over a hundred different titles. With more in storage. I have such a passion for them, I wrote a couple and am planning on more. But what do we do with all of them? I recently saw this amusing photo on a bird books digest forum, with that birdwatcher out in the field with an armful of field guides. It is a paradox, indeed. You want to take field guides with you into the bush, [...]

Correspondents Eric Altman and Paul Johnson have sent along word today that Pennsylvania Bigfoot researcher Sam Sherry, 86, has passed away. Skeptical Bigfootry in the Classroom
My enjoyable visit and interactive lecture to the class at the University of Maine at Orono requires a photographic and informative followup. I visited the campus on February 20, 2008, and previewed that upcoming lecture here. No Sasquatch were sighted but approximately 50 students, three instructors, and I had a good time exchanging ideas and thoughts. A majority of the students were open-minded to Bigfoot, with a good sampling of anthropology and zoology students dotting the audience, even a few baseball players too (I’m very pro-baseball), and certainly some intelligent skeptics, as well. Indeed, a wonderful instructive time was had [...]

Wisconsin’s Big Cats
Dateline Milton, Wisconsin: Kevin Edwardson has been trapping wild animals for years, but he wasn’t prepared for the creature that lunged at him from a hay mound in an abandoned barn last month. It was a cat. A very big cat. The Chicago Tribune publishes an article on mountain lions in the American hinterland, “Are big cats back on Midwestern prowl? More analysis is needed, but Wisconsin man’s story suggests eastward migration,” by Bob Secter, in their February 22, 2008 editions. The news examination is a long one, gives the usual rundown on track finds and sightings. You can find [...]

Two New Lemurs Discovered
Lemurs who star in “Lemur Street” on the Animal Planet series. Cryptomundo has documented the recent discoveries of three new lemurs by the staff of the little zoo out in Omaha.
