Joseph Stefano appears in a publicity photo with one of his monster creations. Joseph Stefano, who will be most remembered in the mainstream media as the scriptwriter for the plot twist in Psycho, according to the Washington Post, has died of a heart attack August 25 at the Los Robles Hospital and Medical Center in Thousand Oaks, California. He was 84. From a cinematic cryptofictional point of view, Stefano will be most recalled, however, affectionately for several television and motion picture achievements dealing with creatures and monsters. His life appeared to have always pointed in that direction. When he started [...]

Nat Geo’s New Hominology Documentary
Recent speculation about National Geographic Channel making a new Bigfoot documentary in West Virginia is groundless. National Geographic Channel’s production team was there recently to do some spot re-creations of events that took place decades ago in East Asia, not about classic Bigfoot, but regarding Almas. I’ve been in communication with them for some time, as hominologist Adam Davies’ expedition to Mongolia in search of Almas was being planned and then being filmed. Now they are doing end-of-the-production tidbits with the re-creations. On March 16, 2006, I exclusively wrote about this documentary here at Cryptomundo. Click to see a larger-sized [...]
Gorillas In Our Midst
A 19th Century illustration of Paul du Chaillu confronting a gorilla in Africa. Why would early newspapers in the United States use the term "gorilla" so frequently in the late 1800s when a large, hairy anthropoid was seen in nearby hollows and hills? Simply put, gorillas during that time were rather closely tied to American explorers’ discoveries and American journalistic interest in others’ adventures with the apes. I’m not for the source of all of the confusion and challenges among Bigfoot researchers and/or those making comments at Cryptomundo about whether or not "gorilla" was used as a way to describe [...]
Stovepipe Hat Bigfoot?
Some folks at the Pine Ridge Reservation say there are two separate things being seen. A Bigfoot and a Tall Man or Big Man. Could there be an overlap in reports? This is the Harry Trumbore illustration from The Field Guide of Bigfoot and Other Mystery Primates (p. 45) of Pitt Lake, BC’s "Sasquatch" seen in June 1965. Could eyewitnesses of some Bigfoot at Pine Ridge be misintreprating the head shape of these creatures for a stovetop hat? And what are we to make of reports of the "Big Man" with a cape? Reports of Bigfoot stealing shirts and pants [...]
We Still Have Not Received Bigfoot Body!
Sometimes communication moves slowly. Although I asked for an official copy of the press release some time ago, just today, August 21, 2006, I received the apparently well-hidden url location of the document from Breanna Bishop, the Public Information Coordinator at The South Dakota School of Mines and Technology. Here is a copy of the full, unedited text of their document: School of Mines Bigfoot Rumors False — Released August 9, 2006 Contrary to online reports, the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology has not been in receipt of the body of Bigfoot. According to a report appearing on [...]

Biscardi Funds Crowe
Ray Crowe has written to inform me that the Bigfoot-oriented The Track Record will be publishing again. Crowe got a surprise phone call from South Dakota from Tom Biscardi. Biscardi said he was going to fund The Track Record. Of course, why is Biscardi in South Dakota? Any guesses that he’s doing something in Pine Ridge? Ray Crowe’s The Track Record was formerly financially backed by Peter Byrne. Crowe published material in his publication that was often approved by or written by Byrne, as well as specifically excluded material vetoed by Byrne as being unfavorable to Byrne’s public image. Ray [...]

Award-winning TV documentary writer-producer-director Nicholas Webster, died August 12, 2006, in Santa Monica after an extended illness. He was 94. In terms of cryptozoology, Webster is best remembered for his documentary Manbeast: Myth or Monster. It is a 1978 documentary that explores the existence of Bigfoot, the Yeti and other legendary humanoid-type creatures. Produced by Alan Landsburg, Manbeast filmed [...]
Media Notes Pine Ridge Bigfoot Audio Report
The California-based Wireless Flash News Service distributes their stories to 800 alternative newspapers, radio stations, and other news outlets worldwide. Here’s their story, unedited: BIGFOOT UPDATE: POLICE SCANNER TAPE REVEALS CREATURE’S WHEREABOUTS August 15, 2006 PINE RIDGE, South Dakota (Wireless Flash) — There’s been a rash of Bigfoot sightings at the Lakota Sioux Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota and a police scanner recording is the most compelling evidence yet. That’s the word from cryptozoologist Loren Coleman, who says the 90-second audio clip — which was taped this past Friday (Aug. 11) — features a female police officer investigating a [...]
