Bigfoot Days are being celebrated in Willow Creek this weekend. As it happens, the photos are beginning to be sent in from last weekend’s Beyond Reality event with the TAPS folks, at the beautiful Mount Washington Hotel at Bretton Woods, New Hampshire.

As I was driving down Mount Washington at 6:30 am on Tuesday, I was treated to a little megafauna encounter. There was a mother moose and what appeared to be her yearling, eating on the side of the road. I pulled over and watched them for about 20 minutes, enjoying this little piece of the Pleistocene in contemporary times.

With my car’s flashing lights on, I slowed down a few vehicles zooming down the road. Indeed, when the two moose finally decided to take their sweet time crossing the pavement bisecting the forest, I was able to prevent an accident by waving a warning to the driver of a large truck who correctly stopped mid-roadway. What was about to happen would have ruined his whole day.

Wonderful beasts, but they do not have any wits about them when it comes to staying out of harm’s way.
