Please note, the times are incorrectly given in the program art (above). “MonsterQuest” begins at 10:00 PM Eastern, and is repeated often in the following days, at various times. The History Channel debuts “MonsterQuest” Wednesday October 31st, 2007. The following is their press release regarding a summary of the series, and details on what is to be on each program. I think it has been understated, but it should be noted the series is by Doug Hajicek (pronounced high-check) and his Whitewolf Entertainment, Inc. Haijcek previously wrote, produced, and directed Sasquatch: Legend Meets Science, which originally aired on the Discovery [...]
Japan’s Standing Panda & More Video
Did you know that this strange bipedal behavior of a standing red panda has been all the rage in Japan? Here’s a fun video on a diversity of the following noted Fortean and cryptozoological topics, which ends with a suggested solution to the Standing Panda’s appearance. Mothman; Chupacabras; Bigfoot (with a ghost face in the background); Tsuchinoko (crypto-creature famous in Japan); Nessie; Alien with FBI/KGB/Gestapo agents (actually a “Talk of the Times” newspaper hoax); Flatwoods Monster; The Doll with growing hair (another typically Japanese Forteana); Aliens play with cattle mutilations; Crop circles, by drawing Doraemon; A play on a famous [...]
Cow-Eating Tree Video
Still more on the “India’s Cow-Eating Trees”. A fascinating video report from tvdaijiworld India has been broadcast about the cow-eating tree, the eyewitness villagers, and the cow. Here is the footage, hosted by Gloria Rodrigues: ++++++ Update: David Pescovitz at Boing Boing did a good job of capturing a couple frames from the video, here.
Halloween Premiere: Monsterquest
During the year, the crew from this show came to Maine, Texas, and a lot of other places across North America. Don’t be surprised if you see some familiar faces in this series, including people you know in the first mini-documentary ever about an all-women Bigfoot expedition. Monsterquest, which debuts this fall, will take a scientific look at “creature” sightings around the world. History announced its 13-episode order for Monsterquest. There will be episodes on “monsters” such as Bigfoot, the Loch Ness Monster, Swamp Beast and the Creature of Snellgrove Lake. The series — described as one part history, one [...]
Sasquatch Meets the Marshmallows
As Cryptomundo readers know, there is an increase at this time of year in the newspapers and on the local broadcasts of “spooky” news items. On television cable, this translates into more features on weird subjects. Cryptozoology gets thrown into this Halloween mix, perhaps unfortunately. Bigfoot walks across your television screen, again and again. Sasquatch meets the marshmallows, it seems. This year, with the 40th anniversary of the Patterson-Gimlin footage, the Halloween Bigfoot/Sasquatch effect has been more than usual. Several nights have been devoted to wall-to-wall replays of old Bigfoot specials and programs. Many of us are very familiar with [...]

Dangerous Names
In Mysterious America, I have written about the sinister nature of the “name game.” There can be a bloody side to the name game, as well. I’ve published some thoughts about this – as evidenced by the Ohio school shooting this week – in new blog over at the Copycat Effect site, here: “Cleveland’s Coon: A Columbine Copycat”. I am not shy about confronting the racial underpinnings in issues, so for those faint of heart about that topic, you won’t want to read that blog. As many of you know, as a consultant and volunteer, I am involved in preventing [...]
The Dover Demon Lives
Move over Ortiz, Manny and Beckett! Share the media airwaves Boston Red Sox! I will be on television around 4:15 p.m. on Boston’s “NewsDay Live,” this Friday, October 12th, on the New England Cable Network, speaking about Mysterious America and specifically, the Dover Demon. A figurine of the Dover Demon is displayed at the International Cryptozoology Museum in Portland, Maine. The strange creature was spotted in Dover, Massachusetts, in 1977. The Dover Demon sculpture is by artist Steve Goodrich of New York State. (Photograph: Amber Waterman/Sun Journal.) This weekend (see poster below), I will also be speaking about the Dover [...]
Boing Boing Museum
Boing Boing is the big boy and girl on the block in blogging, there’s no two ways about it. In an article in today’s New York Times entitled “Nerd Chic Arrives on TV” by David Carr, it is noted that Boing Boing is expanding to television broadcasts via the internet, spurred on by the talented Xeni Jardin. But what Boing Boing, created by Mark Frauenfelder, does just with their blog is already rather amazing. According to that article: “Boing Boing has become one of the five most visited blogs on the Web, according to Comscore, with a monthly traffic of [...]
Small Pterodactyls Among The Indians
You would think the recent baseball game between the New York Yankees and the Cleveland Indians had a chapter in it snatched straight from a cryptozoological book. During the game, insects bothered, to no end, the infielders and pitcher Joba Chamberlain for the Yankees, but less so, it seems the Indians. The bugs remain cryptid. The reaction to them, however, has been remarkable. Big bad Yankees pitcher Roger Clemens was so horrified by the insect invasion he told the media Saturday at Yankee Stadium: “I would have probably pulled us off the field.” The insects were filmed, could have been [...]
