Bill Rebsamen’s illustration completed for me in 2001, for use on the cover of my Mothman book. Does it matter what color the eyes of a more stylized imaging of Mothman appears in graphic art? Two color drawings of “Coleman’s Cryptozoo” arrived overnight from Len Peralta. What version of Mothman‘s eyes do you like? For a look at the black and white initial example of Len Peralta’ art again, go to ” Cryptozoo by Mail”. Should illustrative, graphic, and comic art stay close to the original descriptions of cryptids, or can it be appreciated as a form and extension of [...]
Coast to Coast AM: Male Chauvinism Within Bigfoot Research?
Of course, at some level, one could say we don’t even know what we are looking for and what skills or odors or equipment it will ultimately take to find unknown hairy hominoids. After all, we haven’t found any Bigfoot, Yeti, Almas, or Skunk Ape yet, so what we have been doing isn’t working – or the unknown hairy hominoids are not out there. But that doesn’t stop some people from criticizing others who are for a completely open field of investigators – from academics to truck drivers, from women to men, from true believers to skeptics. For example, in [...]
Women Bigfooters Do Better Fieldwork?
Cartoonist Ted Bastien’s graphic view captures my Coast to Coast AM with George Noory appearances, including ones such as last night’s discussion of black panthers, Sasquatch research, and Bigfoot history. One of the interesting side talks George and I had on his show was about how women – a la’ Jane Goodall – need support to live in pairs for six months or more in the woods, doing Bigfoot research. The non-threatening approach of the great apes and Sasquatch to women might be an overlooked key to future fieldwork. What do you think? Might women actually be able to get [...]
GEICO’s Cavemen – Neandertal Prejudice or Comedy?
What would happen if a small relict band of Neandertals (Homo neanderthalensis) was discovered? What if they learned to speak some language known to modern humans (Homo sapiens) and tried to integrate into our society? For hominologists, such questions have been pondered for years, due to the fact that many of us have considered it a real possibility that Neandertals are behind reports of nuk-luk, Bushman, wudewasa (Eurasia’s Woodpeople) and other unknown hairy hominid sightings and encounters. (See The Field Guide of Bigfoot and Other Mystery Primates, specifically on “Neandertaloids,” pages 13, 23-26, 52-53, 90-91, 118-119, and 170.) The issue [...]
Borillas
Last year, I reported here of the Bigfoot-type reports called “Cohomo.” Does a child’s old 1960s’ notebooks have clues that relate to those sightings of the 1970s? Or was there just a cultural sense in the air that imaginations and reality merged in the Midwest of a few decades ago? Michael Isenberg, a musician living in Hollywood, California, has made claims in emails to Cryptomundo that he created, in 1965, a story that may have influenced the reports of “Cohomo,” also called the “Cole Hollow Monster,” reported in 1972, in Pekin, Illinois. Here’s what Isenberg writes: It began in the [...]
The First Bigfoot Porn Film
The first (and hopefully last) graphic, boring, Bigfoot porn film has been discovered. In terms of full disclosure and capturing the total history of cryptocinema, I have to record a mention of this 15 minute film – a 1981 production – The Geek. The director is unknown, the producers are unknown, the writer is unknown, the editor is unknown, and most of the actors are too. One individual, Lynn Holmes, has placed The Geek in her acting credits on the IMDb. Are we to assume she is the woman being sexually violated by Bigfoot in this film? I only know [...]
Missouri River Monster Captured
A report from May for your consideration… A Terrible Fish Story A strange monster was captured recently [during May] in the [Missouri] river opposite Canton, by some fishermen, in their seine, while dragging for fish. We know not what to call it, or what it looks like, or how to describe it, for it is unlike any creature of earth, air or water, that we have ever seen. It is not a fish, nor is it an alligator, or crocodile, or a turtle, but resembles the pictures we have often seen in books of the mythical dragon. It is a [...]
Mokele Mbembe Mission
Need an overall enjoyable, high production value, six-minute cryptofiction break? Try this movie, Mokele Mbembe. Keep repeating to yourself, it’s only a movie, it’s only a movie, often. However, ruby red slippers are not needed to view it. Now to your mission, if you accept it: Please pick out the major points of factual cryptozoological mistakes in this short film. There are more there than meets the eye.
Yuriy Morozov Dies
Yuriy N. Morozov, 55, a well known Russian Fortean (anomalist) and leading authority on paleovisitology (the study of hypothetical ancient visitors to the Earth) died on April 29, 2007, in Moscow, Russia. Morozov’s death occurred after a short illness, according to his friend Vladimir Rubtsov, director of the Research Institute on Anomalous Phenomena (RIAP). [Rubtsov is himself famed for his studies of Tunguska (1972-2001) and his intriguing winged weirdies article in FSR1979, “A Flying ‘Man’ in Black in Russia.”] Yuriy Morozov was an advocate for the linking of all studies of unexplained phenomena, anomalistics, under one tent. He addressed the [...]
