In Amazing Indeed: Strange Events in the Black Forest Vol. 2, Robert R. Lyman, Sr., 1973, The Potter Enterprise, Coudersport, PA, on page 70, can be found this intriguing passage: Bobcats with Long Tails September 1951. Strange animals appear at times and no one can say for sure what they are. Such an animal was caught in a fox trap south of Wharton by Lynn Wycoff. Since it was an unusual specimen, Wykoff [name is rendered both ways in the article] decided to keep it alive. With the help of his father, he managed to free it from the trap [...]

Black Panther Killed: What Species Is It?
The breaking news headline says it all: “Deputy kills jaguar … or was it leopard?” Neosho, Missouri — A Newton County deputy shot and killed a large, black cat of uncertain species Monday morning, May 19, 2008, when the animal, either a leopard or a jaguar, charged him. Black Lions Prowling
[Reports such as the following are rare, indeed, and do get us solidly back to a cryptozoological frame of mind. Needless to say, for those not knowing, melanistic lions - even in South Africa - are not scientifically verified. - LC] A black lion known to exist is the guard of the Pszczyna castle, Poland, 15th century. From Nelspruit, South Africa, comes this breaking story: Big black lions are said to be roaming the streets of Matsulu township outside the Mpumalanga capital, terrifying residents who say they are too afraid to walk outside at night. Residents have been making anonymous [...]
California’s Latest Black Cougar
Continuing a definite trend here in cryptozoological news of late, this is a breaking May 3, 2008, story from the early edition of The Press Democrat of Santa Rosa, California, about a “black cougar” seen by a Forestville, California man: If there really is a black cougar prowling Don Callen’s woodlands near Forestville, it’s a bona fide feline phenomenon. Such a creature may exist, experts say, but there has never been a documented sighting of a black cougar, also known as a mountain lion or puma. And the furry shape in the two photographs captured 50 feet from Callen’s stationary [...]
Spanish Black Panthers Terrorize Pigs
One of the mauled Pato Negra pigs, with an insert of a black panther. The Olive Press in Andalucia, Spain, has published the latest on a roaming pair of large melanistic cryptid felids. Needless to say, big cats are not suppose to exist in modern-day Spain. The La Cala cougar is clearly not scared of travelling for a meal. The celebrated wild cat that was first spotted in La Cala a year ago has apparently turned up in Campillos. As reported by the Olive Press, he has been SLOWLY moving inland, and now the “panther-like” feline has been accused of [...]
