Move over Ortiz, Manny and Beckett! Share the media airwaves Boston Red Sox! I will be on television around 4:15 p.m. on Boston’s “NewsDay Live,” this Friday, October 12th, on the New England Cable Network, speaking about Mysterious America and specifically, the Dover Demon. A figurine of the Dover Demon is displayed at the International Cryptozoology Museum in Portland, Maine. The strange creature was spotted in Dover, Massachusetts, in 1977. The Dover Demon sculpture is by artist Steve Goodrich of New York State. (Photograph: Amber Waterman/Sun Journal.) This weekend (see poster below), I will also be speaking about the Dover [...]

Small Pterodactyls Among The Indians
You would think the recent baseball game between the New York Yankees and the Cleveland Indians had a chapter in it snatched straight from a cryptozoological book. During the game, insects bothered, to no end, the infielders and pitcher Joba Chamberlain for the Yankees, but less so, it seems the Indians. The bugs remain cryptid. The reaction to them, however, has been remarkable. Big bad Yankees pitcher Roger Clemens was so horrified by the insect invasion he told the media Saturday at Yankee Stadium: “I would have probably pulled us off the field.” The insects were filmed, could have been [...]
International Cryptozoology Museum
Here is a peek inside the International Cryptozoology Museum, thanks to the Sun Journal’s photographer Amber Waterman. The following are the images (except the final three Bigfoot photographs) that accompany the Lewiston Sun Journal front page article about the International Cryptozoology Museum, with their captions and audio clips. At the end, you will find my clarifications and artists’ credits. ====== Loren Coleman talks about the International Cryptozoology Museum located in his Portland home. To the far right is a [resin] cast of the Patterson film Bigfoot, and on the wall is the coelacanth, a fish that was presumed extinct until [...]
A Man and His (Weird) Museum
The Lewiston Sun Journal came for a visit to my museum. Here’s the way reporter Kathryn Skelton experienced it. And me. Weird, Wicked Weird A man and his (weird) museum Hair from Sir Edmund Hillary’s Yeti expedition, water from Loch Ness, a 9-foot latex pterodactyl, Loren Coleman’s got it all. Sometime next spring, Loren Coleman’s getting a 12-foot-long replica of Canada’s Ogopogo lake monster. It’ll probably have to stay on the porch, near his 8.5-foot-tall, oxen-haired Bigfoot. Coleman is a little pressed for space indoors. There’s already a 9-foot latex pterodactyl camouflaged by an avocado tree and a cabinet of [...]
Sexy Spokeswoman Comes Out For Nessies
I resisted calling this blog, “Sex and the Not-So-Single-Nessie.” But that title would have worked, probably. People – at least the broader general public – are not listening but you’ve been reading it here for weeks. Publicity from the Holmes Nessie video in June, debates about the Chinese Lake Monster footage all summer, and now this recent back and forth about Loch Ness sightings of cryptids being down are only the tip of the iceberg. While some silly columnists writing commentaries about “Nessie being dead” have made foolish mistakes such as talking about “one monster” and seriously bringing up circus [...]
Nessies’ Death Prematurely Announced
As reputable an authority as the senior officer of the Cunarder Mauretania [sic] reports that on Jan. 30, [1934] while in the Carribean [sic] Sea, the ship passed “a sea monster 65 feet long, 2 feet across the head and 6 feet broad amidships. It was headed S.W.” We are sorry he did not get its course to a finer compass reading. It might have been information of value to the professors. Again on Feb. 2, in the harbor of La Guira, the officers of this same ship reported that another strange looking denizen of the deep appeared on the [...]
Blair Dog Project: Gable Film Fakery?
Our excitement was so intense, as we saw the way to Solomon’s treasure chamber thrown open at last, that I for one began to tremble and shake. Would it prove a hoax after all, I wondered, or was old Da Silvestra right? Were there vast hoards of wealth hidden in that dark place, hoards which would make us the richest men in the whole world?H. Rider Haggard, King Solomon’s Mines. It’s time to bring out the silver bullets. Okay, Cryptomundo will stop ignoring the Gable Film, and take up the hunt. Since September 24, I’ve tried to get some straight [...]
Mothman 2008
While nothing will ever match the David Grabias 2002 documentary Search for the Mothman, now bundled in the Deluxe DVD/The Mothman Prophecies, production companies keep cranking out ones filled with interviews with old eyewitnesses. Of course, there is no footage of Mothman, so they all are following the same path here. Black River Films has a new doc in production, and you can get a preview of its beginning at their site. The number of documentaries specifically for television about Mothman also continues to increase. News of an another being taped in Mothman country for the 2008 season is noted [...]
