Loren Coleman of Portland talks about cryptozoology, or the study of unknown and undiscovered animals, on Saturday, July 5, 2008, at Fort Knox. (Bangor Daily News/Bridget Brown) Over the weekend, unbeknownst to me, the Bangor Daily News ran an online article about the conference being held up at Prospect, Maine. Here’s part of what they had to say online and in their newspaper today (I couldn’t help myself, however, as I’ve corrected the various wrong ways the paper spelled “Bigfoot”): Loren Coleman, often referred to as “Maine’s nonfiction Stephen King,” sat behind a table filled with models and artwork of [...]
Held Over: CZ Talks/Day Two & New Cryptid Leads
Glad to see so many readers of Cryptomundo at Saturday, July 5th’s talk at Fort Knox. The late arrival crowds were so big that cars were backed up for a couple miles to get into the place. For Sunday, July 6th, when it is predicted people tend to get there earlier and on time, I’ve been asked to stay over to present at noon. Thus, I will give another hour long talk, with a Q&A session, outdoors with lots of replicas, artifacts, props and exhibits from the Interational Cryptozoology Museum. [No more news on the Island Falls black panther report, [...]
GI Joe: Search for the Sasquatch
For the long Independence Day weekend, how about some light matters to enjoy? Sean Whitley, writer/director of Southern Fried Bigfoot, has run across a couple new items of interest. The first is a limited edition “Search for the Sasquatch” set (see above). It was an exclusive item sold at the Official GI Joe Convention held in Dallas, Texas, which Sean and his brother attended last weekend. At $270.00 (that’s not a typo), the set was too expensive for Sean, but he snapped some pictures he wanted to share with Cryptomundians. There is also a new video that goes along with [...]
Western Bigfoot Society: Bluff Creek & Beelart
The following is the overview of Ray Crowe’s Western Bigfoot Society (the WBS is no longer called the International Bigfoot Society) meeting of June 28, 2008, by the man who did the talking, Joseph “Joe” Beelart. So there will be no confusion by those chroniclers of this history, Beelart was interested in seeing these notes published and approached me. I agreed after an exchange of notes about some suggested grammar and clarification edits from my end that would be necessary for me to see this on Cryptomundo. You will note that Joe Beelart is one of the sources of the [...]
The Cryptozoology Season
Is there a new public attack on the Bigfoot and Sasquatch research work of Grover Krantz to be launched soon in London? Or, actually, less melodramatically, what will be said? Cryptozoology Season at the Grant Museum: The Grant Museum is located at the University College London – Gower Street – London – WC1E 6BT – United Kingdom +44 (0)20 7679 2000. The Grant Museum is taking advantage of the popularity of “cryptozoology” by putting on a variety of lectures in what they call “The Cryptozoology Season.” I especially hope some learned cryptozoologists, hominologists, and colleagues get to hear the one [...]
Cryptic Chickens
For those that have never been to a scholarly academic meeting and have wondered what their presentations are like, here’s an example: Thanks to Darren Naish. Ultimate credit goes to Doug Zongker who presented the above at the AAAS, February 16, 2007.
Call For Cryptozoology Papers
The Association Belge d’Etude et de Protection des Animaux Rares (ABEPAR) asbl have organized its 8th Symposium at Engreux, to be held in The Ardenne, south of Belgium, on Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th September 2008. The thema is “Mysterious Animals from Waters and Woods.” They have opened, for consideration, a call for papers of fifty-minute long presentations (maximum lecture + questions/answers) in English, but best in French if possible. (They will not be paying for your travel expenses, even for accepted speakers. You must find your way to Belgium. I would love to give a formal analysis of Bigfoot [...]
Men in Cryptozoology: Daniel Perez
Daniel Perez holds a 14.5-inch cast of an alleged Bigfoot track from Bluff Creek in Northern California. May 31, 2008, is Daniel Perez’s 45th birthday. For over two decades, Perez has held a deep interest in Bigfoot, traveling far and wide, moderating conferences, and putting himself right in the middle of debates and personality conflicts. Daniel Perez is a people person. He is as well known for seeking in-depth personal information about the pursuers of hairy unknown hominodis as he is for gathering long-forgotten facts about Bigfoot. Perez is known to many as the “Jerry Springer” of Bigfootry for the [...]
Dragons: Between Science and Fiction
Opening at the Royal Alberta Museum in Edmondton, Canada, from June 14 through September 14, 2008, is the exciting “Dragons: Between Science and Fiction.”
Bigfoot Film Controversy Stirs New Interest
On Saturday, May 17, 2008, in Ohio, Don Keating hosted a Bigfoot meeting with approximately 450 people in attendance. M. K. Davis gave one of his few public lectures in recent years. Jeff Meldrum, recently returned from a new “Monster Quest” shoot in China, spoke. Other folks, like Eric Altman, talked of local sightings. The potential for something intriguing was there, and indeed, the promise of the possible was fulfilled. But it is Davis whom most people discussed all week. On Friday, May 23, 2008, Cryptomundo recorded over 1.7 million hits, in large part because of visitors wishing to read [...]
