Joel Johnson (the Boing Boing correspondent who toured and filmed my museum) has alerted me to the mention and actual work of Mike Stimpson, involving LEGO photography and various classic photographs that Stimpson has recreated. One of the greatest new images that Stimpson uploaded this week is an amazing Lego recreation of that famed frame from the Patterson-Gimlin footage. You know which one I’m talking about. It is “Frame 352″ from the film, showing the apparent female Bigfoot, today nicknamed “Patty.” Stimpson’s intriguing recreation… …was based on this: Of course, who could have ever known? Discovering Stimpson’s Lego recreation of [...]

75 Years of Drive-In Bigfoot Movies
Cory Doctorow reminds me that today, June 6th, is the 75th anniversary of when the world’s first drive-in movie theater opened in Camden, New Jersey, in 1933. In the Fall 2007 issue of TAPS Paramagazine, I wrote two articles about Bigfoot drive-in movies, and recommend those overviews to you. Here, in tribute to Bigfoot flicks and trailers, for your viewing pleasure, pieces of Sasquatch popular culture from the days of drive-in movies (please pass the popcorn) and beyond. Enjoy!
The Mummy’s Yeti
From the new (third) Mummy movie, a first glimpse of their version of the Yeti. It’s white, needless to say. Thanks for the screen capture to Jason Pritchett.
John Phillip Law, Played Sinbad, Dead at 70
John Phillip Law, a tall, blond actor who cut a striking figure as the blind angel opposite Jane Fonda in 1968′s Barbarella (below), as Sinbad in 1974′s The Golden Voyage of Sinbad (above), and as Harry Holt with Bo Derek in 1981′s Tarzan the Ape Man, has died. He was 70. Law died Tuesday, May 13, 2008, at his Los Angeles home, his ex-wife, Shawn Ryan, said. The cause of death was not announced (although privately, on various celebrity obit forums, a fast-moving cancer is being blamed). Born in Los Angeles on September 7, 1937, to L.A. County Deputy Sheriff [...]
Wiki Weirdness & WV’s Winged Wonder
Okay, the news organizations’ election primary attention shifts to West Virginia today, Tuesday, May 13th, so let’s talk Mothman. Actually, I’m going to use this opportunity to note the sinister editing that regularly takes place at the Wikipedia entry for “Mothman.” I’ve been watching the site because some incredible “political” inputs have occurred with the “Mothman” entry, apparently by skeptics and debunkers inserting words like “claims” and deleting large sections of information. I did not write any of the section, but have dipped in to correct citations, edit slanted words out, and to try to remove mistakes. But what I [...]
Sasquatch Assault
Word of another new Bigfoot movie has arrived: Sasquatch Assault. I’m not really interested in writing about it until I see more about the specifics of the cryptid. Anyway, there’s a perfectly good Michael Gingold item that’s already been written about what is known about it at Fangoria. Oh, I’ll share this; the talking point in-house tagline for the flick is “Assault on Precinct 13 with a Sasquatch.” It appears to fit into the new subgenre of blood-and-gore cryptofiction cinema.
Do Right Wingers Hate Bigfoot?
Let’s try to follow the logic on this one. If you happen to produce a documentary about Jesus Christ that holds a thesis that right wingers don’t like, you can be almost labeled a near-nutcase because you have also produced the documentary “Bigfootville,” according to two conservative bloggers. Your ability to be a critical thinker is called into question if you produce documentaries on Bigfoot and Roswell, but if you raise questions about the story of Jesus Christ (demonstrating your critical thinking?) you are merely called “bogus” because of faults in your “background”? I am not here to defend or [...]
Yetis, Mummy 3, and Chinese
李連杰 (Jet Li) plays Qin Emperor. Photo by Jasin Boland. The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (a/k/a Mummy 3) is an upcoming American motion picture directed by Rob Cohen that follows in the wake of The Mummy and The Mummy Returns. M3 is slated for release on August 1, 2008. As I have noted here before, one scene will be of a battle with the “Army of the Yeti.” An extremely brief hint of the Yeti can be seen here. Additionally, a variety of other teaser featurettes are beginning to be placed online, some in Chinese:
Monster In Dem Woods
Now comes the music video…. And don’t miss the last ten seconds of the trailer….
