Glad to see so many readers of Cryptomundo at Saturday, July 5th’s talk at Fort Knox. The late arrival crowds were so big that cars were backed up for a couple miles to get into the place. For Sunday, July 6th, when it is predicted people tend to get there earlier and on time, I’ve been asked to stay over to present at noon. Thus, I will give another hour long talk, with a Q&A session, outdoors with lots of replicas, artifacts, props and exhibits from the Interational Cryptozoology Museum. [No more news on the Island Falls black panther report, [...]
New Bigfoot Book: The Hoopa Project
The back cover seems to summarize the contents well. (Click on image for larger version.) I will give a review after a fully printed copy is received.
Hundredth Monkey’s Lyall Watson Died on June 25, 2008
Known as an animal man, explorer, adventurer, and Fortean, his books served as a catalyst to other thinkers.
Seeking Sasquatch In New Books
New Bigfoot / Sasquatch books will be making it into bookstores and online soon. One is a revised, updated version of an earlier book by Robert Bartholomew and Paul Bartholomew on Eastern sightings of hairy unknown hominoids, newly entitled Bigfoot Encounters in New York & New England, published by Hancock House, 2008. Chris Murphy’s expanded revised book overviewing Sasquatch should be out soon too. Know the Sasquatch/Bigfoot is Murphy’s sequel and update to Meet The Sasquatch. Chris sends along some thoughts he’s been having about Bigfoot lately: “Footprints are an image of the bottom of a planted foot, that is [...]
The Cryptozoology Season
Is there a new public attack on the Bigfoot and Sasquatch research work of Grover Krantz to be launched soon in London? Or, actually, less melodramatically, what will be said? Cryptozoology Season at the Grant Museum: The Grant Museum is located at the University College London – Gower Street – London – WC1E 6BT – United Kingdom +44 (0)20 7679 2000. The Grant Museum is taking advantage of the popularity of “cryptozoology” by putting on a variety of lectures in what they call “The Cryptozoology Season.” I especially hope some learned cryptozoologists, hominologists, and colleagues get to hear the one [...]
Bigfooter Bob Chance Indicted
The breaking news headline I read this morning was unbelievable, for two reasons: (1) I knew, very well, the person charged, and (2) the media decided to highlight the fact the individual is a “Bigfoot hunter.” The Examiner headline shouted out: “Bel Air Bigfoot hunter indicted on charges of making drugs,” for June 19, 2008, in an article by Matthew Santoni. Many readers here are familiar with his name. I’ve known Bob Chance for years, since we both were long distance correspondents and friends of Ivan T. Sanderson, back in the 1960s, the good ole days of the Society for [...]
Cryptid Long-Tailed Wildcats
The “Long-Tailed Wildcat” trapped and killed on January 16, 1922, in the Tinicum Swamp, Pennsylvania. Archival photograph, Henry W. Shoemaker, via Chad Arment. Perhaps it would be good to take a bit of a look at the reports of long-tailed spotted and striped small mystery and not-so-mysterious cats, in light of yesterday’s mention of “Long-Tailed Bobcats.” The bobcat pictured above has a short tail, but the photo shows how an allusion is created by the image of the tail merging with a back leg. Puma, young. Are there any jaguarundis (Puma yaguarondi) in the mix? Cryptozoologist Chad Arment has reminded [...]
Long-Tailed Bobcats?
In Amazing Indeed: Strange Events in the Black Forest Vol. 2, Robert R. Lyman, Sr., 1973, The Potter Enterprise, Coudersport, PA, on page 70, can be found this intriguing passage: Bobcats with Long Tails September 1951. Strange animals appear at times and no one can say for sure what they are. Such an animal was caught in a fox trap south of Wharton by Lynn Wycoff. Since it was an unusual specimen, Wykoff [name is rendered both ways in the article] decided to keep it alive. With the help of his father, he managed to free it from the trap [...]
Cryptozoology Museum Internships
On June 1st, I launched a call for applications for one or two unpaid volunteers or interns, if you will, at the International Cryptozoology Museum, here as part of my home/office/musuem in Portland, Maine, for the summer of 2008. Here’s a reminder of that call: Are you an extremely well-organized person? Are you a happily obsessive compulsive person that can deal with a seasoned but not cranky cryptozoologist? Do you have a passion for cryptozoology? Would you enjoy filing Bigfoot reports, sorting through 45 years’ worth of boxes of old news accounts, correspondence, and contributed photos? Actually helping in moving [...]
Seljord Serpent Filmed: Blobdracontology?
Selma, the so-called “Sea Serpent” that lives in Lake Seljord (Seljordsvatnet) obviously would have to be a Lake Monster, akin to the Loch Ness Monster. The location is near the inland town of Seljord, a municipality in the county of Telemark, Norway. The town’s coat-of-arms was created in 1989, and shows the “sea serpent Selma.” According to most who have seen the supposed watery cryptid, Selma resembles a giant eel. The first eyewitness accounts date back to the 18th century. This is video of the “Seljord Serpent” or Selma, which was taken at Lake Seljord, Norway, by Adam Davies and [...]
