There’s a new “possible” Bigfoot photograph that has been submitted to Cryptomundo. We are making no claims about it, but thought our readers might be interested in looking at this one. And pondering what it might be. It was taken by a scouting camera on April 30, 2006, in the Mt. Hood National Forest, near The Dalles, Oregon. The camera is a Cuddeback digital scouting camera, which was attached to a tree about three feet off the ground. It has a motion/heat detector. Could it be someone going by in a poncho? I asked the people who placed the camera, [...]
Fossil Hominoid Tracks
London’s The Sunday Times on April 30, 2006, carries the above remarkable photograph by Michael Amendolia. This one is from a series of fossil tracks of Pleistocene hominoids from 20,000 B.C., found recently near the Willandra Lakes, New South Wales, Australia. Steve Webb, of Bond University, Queensland, and Mary Pappin Jr, a 26-year-old member of the local Mutthi Mutthi tribe discovered the first of what would be 450 more humanlike tracks, as well as what appear to be spear holes in the ground and the tracks of kangaroos and emus. This is perhaps only an eighth of the total, the [...]
Media Watch: Wallace Again, Wrong Again
Reporter Cheryll Borgaard of the Longview Daily News in Washington State, on Sunday, April 30, 2006, has written a new article, entitled “Most Notorious — A legend or just elusive? Sasquatch keeps the world guessing.” Her article is a typical overview piece, rather good in most parts. The news item talks about the late Grover Krantz estimating there are 2000 or so Sasquatch in the Pacific Northwest, local Longview men Randy Trusty and David Hart collecting Bigfoot track plaster casts in 1998, Robert Michael Pyle discussing skepticism but finding three prints, and the differences being expressed between Krantz and Pyle [...]
New Coelacanths On Display
Two new exhibitions of coelacanths are worthy of noting. The celebrated story of the coelacanth has made it one of the darlings of cryptozoology. It embodies a true tale of a “living fossil,” not verified as a “real animal” by science for 65 million years, then discovered off Africa in 1938 and rediscovered, with great fanfare, again in 1952 (as shown above). The coelacanth was a fish known to the natives, and eaten, with some slight disgust because it was too oily. It was a part of the menu of fishing peoples for centuries off Africa, long before it became [...]
It’s Showtime Sonoma: Fakery, False Claims, and Fistfights?
Remember the “Snow Walker” footage of a “Yeti in a snowfield.” It turned out to be a fake that the producers of Paranormal Borderland, an old UPN program that lasted about two episodes, created to boost the ratings of their first show. Now the obnoxious Penn & Teller and their BS Showtime Network program are claiming to have done something similar. Do they want news outlets such as Cryptomundo to talk about them because we have ignored them so well? Of course they do. A teaser digital preview for their forthcoming “cryptozoology” episode on Showtime is broadcasting that they faked [...]
Staying Alive
Want to pick up a $4 or $5 copy of John Napier’s Bigfoot: The Yeti And Sasquatch in Myth and Reality ? Looking for that rare first edition of Curious Encounters (1985) for fifteen bucks? Trying to rundown one of Heuvelmans’ scarce books? I’d like to recommend someone that’s trying to keep those old cryptozoology books flowing into the hands of people, like you, who need them. You might want to check out Arcturus Books Inc. Bob Girard has been selling used books for years, and now does it from Port St. Lucie, Florida. But like most old booksellers, he’s [...]
Who is Jan Klement?
Who is Jan Klement? Is Bigfoot gay? How can asking questions get me in trouble and even have people leaving me "death threats" on my phone machine? Well, it seems rather easily, it turns out. Was Klement an earth sciences professor? A biology professor? A high school science teacher? Is he still alive? Did he ever exist? Did he see what he says he saw happening between a cow and a Bigfoot? I once wrote that Jan Klement is the "Deep Throat" of the Bigfoot field. Jan Klement is listed as the author of a book surrounded by controversy. The [...]
Needed: Useful Info From Johor
The New Straits Times had a very short article about the Malaysian Bigfoot on April 11, 2006. It was given with various headlines in different editions, one being “Information on Bigfoot comes at a price.” This news item quoted the opinion of, as they termed him, “Bigfoot enthusiast” and biodiversity researcher Vincent Chow. He “claimed the villagers were not as forthcoming with information as before but the minute they were paid, they became very helpful and vocal.” Meanwhile, Independent reporter Jan McGirk informs me that the famed cast of the Johor Bigfoot is still the possesion of the SPI team [...]
See The Jersey Devil Here!
Come on in! See the Jersey Devil. Step right up. Get your tickets here. Look inside and see the actual Jersey Devil. Actually visible below, for real… In circus, sideshow, and carnival jargon, the gaff is the gimmicked item, the taxidermy fake, the rigged prop often used by the illusionists, the sideshow artists, the showmen to turn the tip, that is, get the audience, to enter the sideshow, tent, attraction, freakshow, exhibition. The Jersey Devil and the gaff go hand-in-hand. Take what happened…a hundred years ago. In 1906 huckster Norman Jefferies, publicity manager for C.A. Brandenburgh’s Arch Street Museum in [...]
