Everytime a news items appears about a "new species," of course, it seems it might be another exciting moment for cryptozoology. The new species could be one that is ethnoknown, a part of the traditions and encounters of the local peoples who may have assisted in finding it. But some media reports might not be talking about the discovery of a brand "new species." Sometimes reporters are only disseminating the fact that a "new" animal, perhaps never seen locally, is making a new appearance. Often, if the location has a bit of exotic mystic about it, people naturally think this [...]
More Gators
Officer Kyle Finney, 27, carefully holds the 2-foot-long alligator he pulled from Horseshoe Pond, near Concord, New Hampshire, on August 29, 2006. Concord Police Department photograph. The local newspaper Concord Monitor noted that Kinney was already known as a hero for pulling an 84-year-old woman from a burning automobile last year. Now he can add alligator recovery to his resume. When the paper reported on the sightings of the gator the day before, the Concord Monitor mentioned that a 3-feet-long alligator had been picked up from Bath, New Hampshire, a few weeks earlier.
Steve Irwin & Cryptomundo
In the midst of a worldwide media story being compared to the death of JFK or Princess Di, and which crashed many websites, Cryptomundo’s “Steve Irwin Killed” apparently filled a critical niche. The tragic death of Steve Irwin was easily the major topic at the lead of most news organizations’ attention on September 4th. Why would people want to read about it here? What quickly happened was that alternative news sources came to Cryptomundo to learn a little known fact about Steve Irwin: he had searched for cryptids too, including the Thylacine. Reportedly, Irwin devoted an entire episode of “The [...]

What Is A Yarwen?
Has a Yarwen been captured in Maine? Read more about that question here. In this column, I wish to explore what kind of monsters (from creatures to humans) might be behind the use of such a word as "Yarwen." First, let’s consider that this term is not being used loosely, but very specifically to describe a person’s killing of an adult cryptid and the transporting of its baby. The mental graphic images of a young hominoid in a cage in New Jersey, yes, Jersey, are just more than I can take, but I’ll press onward, in the service of cryptozoology’s [...]

Yarwen: Captured in Maine
I get all kinds of emails. Some are threatening. Some are intriguing. Some are confusing. Because an “offer” in a new email has been withdrawn due to the fact I wanted more details, plus, humm, a photograph, as well as to know the real identity of the person writing me, I will share the following correspondence. This melodrama may be someone’s fiction or next week’s media event, so read it in that context. The person who wrote got upset with my caution, my checking for credibility, and my probing questions. The individual then said he was going to put “it” [...]
Messages From The Rez
People from South Dakota continue to write me about the July-August reports of something, some things, and more being seen by the Oglala Sioux. What are people saying about the Pine Ridge Bigfoot who live there? Here’s a sampling. I don’t have any directly-related Pine Ridge sketches to go with any of this material because no one has sent any to me. Yet. PynkSpyder writes: Okay, some things are not being said. I’m from this reservation, and, really, you couldn’t go 5 minutes without the topic coming up during that week. I heard from an OST officer, who is a [...]
CryptoChannel ‘06
The Sci-Fi Channel’s start date for the new Rob Mariano vehicle will be Wednesday, October 11, 2006. The program “Sci Fi Investigates” will air at 10:00 pm Eastern/9:00 pm Central. The new reality show will be a six-week series hosted by the “Survivor” and “Amazing Race” alum “Boston Rob” and produced by NBC News Productions. Among the subjects covered will be “Bigfoot,” “Mothman,” “Paranormal Hotspots,” “Roswell Revisited,” “The Afterlife” and “Voodoo.” Cryptomundo earlier cautiously mentioned this program on July 14, 2006. As I critiqued it then, the program appears to be taking a skeptical or hostile approach to these subjects, [...]
Why A Bigfoot Trap?
During the hunt for the Yeti, then Bigfoot, the Texas oil and beef millionaire commissioned the building of elaborate feet-oriented traps to capture those unknown hairy hominoids. All we have left are the drawings, apparently. But out west, a different and more elaborate Bigfoot trap still exists. Craig Woolheater discussed the trap here at Cryptomundo on August 25, 2006. In the Sunday, September 3, 2006, edition of the Medford, Oregon, Mail Tribune, Ron Olson explains why he built that Bigfoot trap. ‘I’ve always believed there is a Bigfoot’ By PAUL FATTIG Mail Tribune Despite popular belief, the legendary Bigfoot trap [...]
